First Day of High School, anyone?

Did anyone else start high school today? I did... And of course, the school-popularity gods have cursed me to wallow at the bottom of the food chain. I almost believe that I'm truly condemned to lonely lunches. Hehe...

Right off the bat, my day was thrown out of order. In the morning, when we were supposed to grab our nifty-keen updated schedules, I couldn't find mine in any building. Out of 3000 students, only 8 didn't have schedules. Lucky me, to be part of that eight.
I wound up being thirty minutes late to my first class, only to find that I was surrounded by burly seniors. Right class, too. Scary. :gonk:

After that discrepancy in the morning, my day coasted by, other than the fact that my old best friends wouldn't let me touch them with a ten-foot pole. I know that my day definitely wasn't on the top 10 worst days, but it WAS enough to put me off once I got home. I slept for three or four hours, and have yet to start my massive quantities of AP work.

Can anyone on Menewsha sympathize? "Freshies", fresh meat, freshmen... I summon thee. :boogie:

Dannydarkus 08-13-2010 02:27 AM

You're whole post made me laugh. xD

I was just like you when I started as a freshman.
I'm a Junior in high school so I know a bit. ;D -sarcasm-.
I don't consider anyone at my school popular..most of them [people who claim they are popular]are sluts. I wouldn't know though, I'm a clean boy. The seniors can be a bit intimidating if you let them be. Don't let anyone push you around D<! As for the friends, you'll meet better people who won't mind that you carry around a pole. No,i'm joking about the pole. But really it took me like 3 semesters to finally be comfortable with the people around me. But now some of them I consider close friends.
Good luck Fishy.O3O

Wooooow.. Someone needs a hug???
I'm not a freshman.
I'm a senior..
I still can't believe those words.. every time I say it...
The years truely do fly by fast.
Dont worry too much.
Do your best.
It will matter later on.

Haha, thanks so much guys. Your replies have given me the strength to (hesitantly) pick up a pencil and start my Algebra 2 homework. Yay for review, because I swear, I can barely remember the torture that was Algebra 1.

@Zarek-senpai: Ooh, hugs are nice. I miss those things. :gonk: But wow, you're a senior? This girl right here, the one typing like it's goin' out of style, is super duper jealous. I'll take your word for it, because it seems like you have a good grasp on things. Yup. The scary thing is, I know it'll matter. I already dropped AP Biology... And I'm regretting it.

@Danny-senpai: Why thank you, good sir. I try to be lighthearted and fun in all that I do. My quirkiness is what makes me such a social pariah. So, it means a lot to me to have someone accept it like that ~ No worries, none of those toughies will ever come within an inch of my tutu'd person. (Eh, so close!) I hope that I can bond with some new peeps like atoms bond when they wanna make a molecule ~

Dannydarkus 08-13-2010 02:50 AM

Lol!
The atom thing.

What was it from that song..Handlebars!

That song is made of 100% win. XD The number of times I've listened to it on repeat... :gonk: (if ya haven't noticed, that's my favorite smiley EVER. And it always will be, too... *dreamy look in eye*

Dannydarkus 08-13-2010 03:00 AM

I know I do the same. xD!
I can't rap though..I can play it on acoustic.
My favorite smiley that makes me Lol'd is

Man...I'm not going to be a freshman but I am going to be going to a new school this year in a little over a week and I am kinda freaking out. I hope I don't have as bad of a day as you had but I probably will...my school is going to have 4100 kids I don't know and it is a huge school I'm going to get so lost...so yes I can sympathize with you.

Not a freshie (I start Senior year on the 23rd), but I thought I'd pipe in here and encourage you for your AP classes; It's hard, it's tedious, but it pays off so much.

Don't worry! You got home in one piece, and even found the presence of mind to do some homework: for me, at least, that constitutes a "good" day at high school. I'm not gonna lie to you; high school tends to have a way of giving you issues at the worst possible time. Equally true, though, is the fact that there's usually someone capable of helping you and willing to get off their duff to do so.

In short; I'm no stranger to high school being a wad of headaches, but just stay positive and find some better friends to hang out with. (If you're an AP student, that might not be hard - in my experience, AP kids tend to think along similar patterns.)

I have a week or so until I start on the 25th. Lovely. CAN I SAY THAT I'M SCARED!! (I still need to finish my note-taking in To Kill a Mockingbird... Finished reading it months ago...)

But I start band camp tomorrow, which will hopefully be awesome. -crossed fingers-

I have about 3 weeks before I start my second year of university. I'm a little scared.

I do remember my first day of highschool. I was so scared, it wasn't that big of a school really. Like 800 students or so, but to me coming from a school of like 100. That was pretty big. I just remember, not talking the whole day, and eating my lunch in the hall.
I also hate the assemblies that they have on the 1st day of school. I find that they are always the longest, because they go over everything. How to succeed..where to get help...blah, blah.

I also find the first day after a while a bit boring, because you don't really get to learn anything. The teachers have to set up everything, distribute textbooks, explain what the class was about..stuff like that.

I do hope you get the hang of it though, and start to enjoy it. I loved highschool, some times it was really tough, but it was fun for the most part.

Ah, high school. I remember my first day. I was worried about getting lost. My brother was a senior at the time and him and his friends picked on me the whole day and the rest of the year. I found a new group of friends and lost a lot of old friends. Same thing happened after high school. That's about all i remember. Granted this was 13 years ago so I don't remember much. XD

Nolori 08-13-2010 06:11 PM

My first day of high school was similar, so I hear you there. Friends from middle school did the exact same thing to me. My entire freshman year was, well, not all that fun. But in my sophmore year everything suddenly picked up. I got three or four really good friends, two of which I still hang out with on a regular basis.

But I made it through high school and each year was better than the last. I'm starting my second year of college on Monday (@Wynna: I'm nervous about it too!), and to be honest I'm kind of glad my freshman year was so lame. It made me take things a lot less personally and, generally, forced me to come out of my shell in order not to be a complete loner.

So I wish you luck and strength in your freshman year! If I got through it, I know you can too.

ThyFaerieQueen 08-24-2010 03:49 PM

Well, I'm not that scared anymore, since I know the lay of the land. I met two really nice girls in the library on Friday (they were there for orientation, I was there for band) and we hit it off quite nicely. We talked about anime and manga and they're in my Chorus class! (YAY!!) We were laughing about how they had yaoi on the shelves. Don't these librarians know what their students are reading? O.o

Laila Izuka 08-24-2010 05:23 PM

Fortunately my Freshman year wasn't as bad as most people's. I did move right before I started high school, so I didn't know ANYONE. The first couple of days are going to be hard and scary. But don't let the upperclassmen get to ya. They just think that they are at the top since they have been in high school longer than you. Just try to talk to others and get to know a few people, and don't worry about being in the "in crowd". Just be yourself and find people that are like you :3

AdamantSilence 08-24-2010 05:39 PM

Aww, yeah. Freshman year wasn't that great for me either. But don't worry, things'll get better soon. ^_^

I'm going to be a junior this year and school starts next Tuesday for me. I cannot tell you how much I'm not looking forward to it. It's going to be another looong year. Then again with my cynical personality, pretty much everything about school is dissatisfactory. All the popular preppy people will be flooding the halls, and being who I am, ha, I'll just be another shadow. An intimidating one.

Good luck with the new school year. Freshman year can be pretty tough especially when you don't know many people. Give it a little time.
