(Mkay.)
Luke ran to school. His short legs carrying him far. He couldn't wait to see Jessica again. He thought she was really pretty. She was his first crush, and he was only in 2nd grade. He was one of the only kids who didn't make fun of her. But he made sure that he stuck up for her too. Only problem was, today his mom hadn't gotten him up like she normally did to make him catch the bus, and since she already left for work, he missed the bus and had to run to school. He worried that kids were being mean to Jessica on the bus ride to school... |
Jessica waited sniffling by the gate and wiped the tears away. Seeing Luke approaching, she ran towards him. "Luke!" She stopped just in front of him and smiled slightly. "I brought an extra lunch so we could eat together." She said wiping at her face again. Jessica looked down at her feet and blushed slightly. She really liked Luke, he was always brave and kind and didn't pick on her at all. Besides that, he was really handsome. "Um...I hope you don't mind peanut butter and jelly."
Luke frowned, he ignored what she said about lunch though he liked peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. "Who made you cry?! I'll punch them!" He shouted, putting his fists up and bouncing around. He punched the air, getting ready to put up a fight. He was so angry. Anyone who hurt Jessica deserved to be hurt themselves.
Jessica smiled. "Forget it. Let's get to school. Otherwise, we'll get in trouble again." She said pulling on his sleeve. "I brought chocolate chip cookies too." Jessica said in a matter of fact tone. "And if you don't get in a fight with anyone, I'll give half to you." She had already planned to give him half and as the bell rang, she yelped and began to run towards the school as fast as her second grade legs could carry her. "Come on, Luke. We're going to be late."
Luke stopped when she said chocolate chip cookies. He groaned and began to trudge after her. No fights?! For half a chocolate chip cookie.... He sighed. The bell rang and he ran after her. They got there right before the last bell rang. He sat down in his seat next to hers. Soon enough it was lunch time and Luke walked with Jessica to their table.
As she sat down, Jessica began opening her purple lunch pail. She pulled out two sandwiches and four chocolate chip cookies. "Here you go, Luke. A deal's a deal." She said handing over two chocolate chip cookies and a sandwich. She knew he loved chocolate chip cookies. Unwrapping her food, she took a bite of her sandwich and ate slowly. Lunch time was her favorite because she got to sit with Luke and talk about all sorts of things.
Luke was surprised that she gave him two whole cookies. He ate his sandwich quickly so that he could get to the cookies. Which he ate slowly to savor it. After he was done eating he sipped at a juice box, talking to Jessica about all kinds of stuff. Even his video games. He told her he like the gun ones, where he got to shoot people. He made the shooting noises for sound effects.
Jessica smiled as Luke talked of his video games. "I don't like the gun ones. I like the ones where you get magic powers." She told him, although she rarely played video games. Her mother didn't like them. She ate her cookies next and finished her juice quickly, just as the bell rang to go back to class. "Hey Luke. Can we go to the tree? The one where all the hearts are carved in." She asked as she cleaned up her trash and wiped crumbs off.
Luke threw his trash away too. He blinked and looked at Jessica. He swallowed the last bit of cookie and wiped his mouth with his sleeve. "At recess okay?" He told her beginning to hurry back to class. He wondered why she wanted to to go to the heart tree...
Jessica smiled and clapped her hands as she ran to class. He had said yes. She couldn't wait for recess now. Jessica would tell him how much she liked him and hope for the best. As she took her seat next to him, she smiled happily before turning her attention to class and waiting impatiently for recess to arrive.
Recess came two hours later. Luke rushed out to play army with the other boys, but then stopped and told them he'd be there in a little bit. He turned and ran to the heart tree, where he was sure Jessica already was. He smiled and waved at her, stopping when he got there. "Why did you want to come here?" He asked.
Jessica had rushed out to recess and straight to the heat tree. When she saw Luke, she got butterflies in her stomach. She cleared her throat like she had seen in the movies and took a deep breath. "I wanted to tell you something. I...umm...I really like you, Luke, and well....I...." She said stumbling slightly over her words. "And I want to marry you someday. There I said it. I'm going to go inside now." Jessica said before turning away from Luke and taking a few deep breaths.
Luke actually blushed when he said that. He grabbed her hand when she began to walk away. He nodded. "Yeah.... I want to.... I promise, one day I will marry you Jessica." He grabbed a sharp branch and drew a heart into the tree, then carved a J+L in the middle of it.
Jessica blushed and smiled happily. After he was done carving the heart, she ran her fingers over it. "It's beautiful. I promise I'll marry you Luke." Jessica said happily and slightly proud. She was glad she had decided to say something and the butterflies were gone. Looking over at him her smile broadened even more. "Thank you."
Luke was so happy. He leaned over and kissed her cheek. "I'll see you later. I'm going to go play army." He ran off and immediately got into the action, rolling around in the dirt and making gun noises. He got "shot" and fell back. He pretended to be dying and then "died". Someone gave him a life pack and he got back up ready to shoot some more.
Jessica blushed red and sat down under the tree to watch the boys play army. She laughed at their antics until the bell rang when she hurried inside to her seat. The teacher saw how happy she was and smiled at her. Jessica smiled dreamily from her desk and sighed happily wondering how long this happy feeling would last.
It lasted until 4th grade. When Luke had to move. On his last day he asked Jessica to meet him at the heart tree during recess. At recess he stood there nervously. He messed with his fingers.
(Hope the time skip was okay.) |
(Totally. ^.^)
Jessica bounced over to the tree and smiled at Luke. "You wanted to see me, Luke?" She asked a little nervous. They hadn't met at the tree since the heart had been carved and Luke seemed nervous. |
Luke nodded. He looked up at her through his eye lashes. "I uh.......... Jessica I'm moving...." He spilled out to him.
Jessica gasped. "You're moving, but...but...it's not fair." She said looking at the ground in shock. "I mean what about our promise?" She asked trying to hold back her tears. "When do you move?" Her braid fell over her shoulder and she sat down on the ground to try and steady herself. If felt like her whole fourth grade world was ending.
Luke got down onto his knees. He bit his lip. "Tomorrow..." He felt bad about waiting it out. But he wanted his last few days to be happy. And if he'd told her sooner it wouldn't have.
