Jessica's phone rang and she groaned, pulling away slightly. She reached for the phone and answered it. "Hello?" A low male voice could be heard from the other end and she rolled her eyes. "No. I'm fine. No, bro, you don't need to come over. Yes I've eaten. Yes I'm fine. Of course I'm sure. Okay lunch and bring him, got it. Talk to you later." She hung up and closed her eyes leaning her head on Luke's shoulder. "My brother somehow heard you were back in town and wants to have lunch with us tomorrow. Do you want to go?"

Luke watched her, but heard bro and relaxed. He sighed and waited for her to finish. He stroked her hair when she leaned her head on his chest. He frowned. "I'm not sure that's a good idea." He told Jessica. If he saw her brother the engagement might come up, and then running away. And that wouldn't be good at all.

Jessica nodded. "That's fine with me." She smiled up at him. Suddenly she got a thoughtful expression on her face. "Luke do you have somewhere to stay?"

Luke grimaced and shook his head. He had refused his parents stay and his fiance's stay too. Though his bags were at his parents. All this made him want a smoke...

"Do you want to stay here?" Jessica asked with a slight smile. "I can sleep on the couch if you want and it will definitely make running away easier."

Luke shook his head. "Never will my Jessica sleep on a couch. I'll sleep on the couch." He told her, his way of saying he'd stay with her.

Jessica shook her head and tried to have a defiant look, but she was smiling too much. "Nope. There is no way I am letting you sleep on the couch. I'll sleep on the couch and you'll sleep on the bed."

Luke rolled his eyes. He bent down a little and picked Jessica up. "We'll share the bed. How's that sound?" He carried her to her room so that he could go out onto the balcony and smoke.

Jessica smiled as he picked her up. "Sounds good, but I get the side with the sketches. I don't want you getting to the bottom of those just yet." She told him with a mischievous grin. "I head birthday presents and such in them and I'll give them to you one at a time."

Luke laughed and shrugged. He lightly dropped her onto the bed and then went out onto the balcony. He took out a ciggie and lit it.

Jessica smiled as he dropped her on the bed and when he was outside, she crawled over to the nightstand. Digging through the piles of sketches, she found the object she was looking for: a small box. Opening it, she smiled when she saw the ring she had engraved for him. It sat on a chain so it could be hidden away. Walking out to the balcony, she handed the box to him. "Here. I told you I'd give them to you one at a time and here's the first one. It's the more recent."

Luke took the cig out of his mouth and grabbed the box surprised. "I didn't get you anything..." He mumbled opening the box.

Jessica smiled and shrugged. "If you like it you can kiss me and that will be enough of a present for me. And if not, kiss me anyway, it will make me feel better." She said kissing his shoulder.

Luke laughed and smiled seeing it. He put the box down and put the chain on with the ring on it. He kissed her forehead. "Thank you. I love it."

Jessica smiled. "I'm glad. I'll leave you to smoke in peace now." She said with a slight blush and began to walk back in the house.

Luke shrugged and turned back around. He finished his ciggie before coming back inside, another mint going into his mouth.

Jessica hadn't heard him come in and was presently on the bed looking through her high school yearbook for some odd reason. Turning when she heard the sliding of the door closing, she tried to arrange herself so she could get the book back in the nightstand without Luke seeing it. A few guys had confessed their feelings on the last day of school in her yearbook and she didn't want Luke to get upset again.

Luke heard a drawer close as he walked in. He raised an eyebrow. "You're hiding too much Jessica. What are you hiding this time?"

Jessica smiled guiltily. "I don't want you to get upset. And I'm hiding stuff because I think it makes me look one of two things: crazy or socially inept." She explained and pulled the yearbook out from behind her back. "It's my yearbook. I was looking for good pictures of me, but found a couple things people wrote."

Luke rolled his eyes and grabbed the yearbook from her, he flipped through the pages reading what some boys wrote, his temper slowly boiling.

Jessica sighed and knelt in front of him on the bed. Putting a hand on his shoulder, she tried to get his attention. "Luke, ignore it. I ignored them and you should too." She said and with a joking voice added. "I'm not beyond knocking the book out of your hands and kissing you till you forget."

Luke sighed. He closed the book and put it down on the bed. He moved away and sat down. He hadn't expected Jessica to be so popular with the boys...

Jessica followed Luke and knelt in front of him. "Luke, talk to me." She said quietly. "I'm more than willing to listen."

Luke didn't looked at her. "I didn't.... I didn't think you'd be so popular with the boys.... that's all..."

Jessica raised her eyebrow. "You're jealous?" She asked. "Here let me show you something." Standing up she went to her closet and pulled down a shoe box. Taking out a picture of the two of them holding hands on the first day of fourth grader, she walked back over and handed it to him. "That was in my locker every day through middle school and high school."
