A Vulcan's world

Here we all can talk about how we like or dislike Vulcans! If you don't know about Vulcans, then you probably shouldn't be here. If you want to learn about them, here's a brief summary:

Vulcans occur in in the Star Trek world, first starting as the legendary Mr. Spock of The Original Series. They have pointed eyebrows and pointed ears, and are raised to supress emotions, because they can become very violent or uncontrolable. Many people mistake them for having no emotions, but that is not true. Vulcans are a considerably emotional people. Once every seven years, Vulcans experience Pon Farr, an urge to return to their home planet and find a suitable mate. If they do not resolve the Pon Farr (using meditation, violence, extreme shock, or finding a mate), they could die from it. Main characters that are Vulcan include; Spock (Star Trek: The Original Series), T'Pol (Star Trek: Enterprise), Vorik and Tuvok (Star Trek: Voyager) [Forgive me if I missed anything. I did not watch Deep Space 9]. For more information, go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vulcan_(Star_Trek)

So... let me start a good conversation by asking what your favorite Vulcan(s) is. I'd have to say it's a toss between Vorik and Spock. Spock shows emotion more than most (maybe from his human side), which compliments his appeal. Yet Vorik... well, first he is in my favortie series. Second, he's young and very handsome. Third, he doesn't have a lot of attention, which I suppose makes him more intresting. Fourth, he has the best voice EVER! And lastly, it may help than the show he most occured in was all about Pon Farr. *Giggles mischivously to herself*

Spock is my favorite hands-down. Mostly because I refuse to watch any other series than ToS, and I'm only just recently accepting into Reboot and it's rendition of the original crew. I'm a stickler for the ToS.
Dunno why.

I actually just started watching The Original series yesterday, and I've found myself becoming more and more addicted to Spock. And to think, I used to think Spock was the least best Vulcan. Boy, was I wrong.

PrincessBane 08-15-2010 07:29 PM

I love Vulcans. D: Sarek was probably my favourite one, Spock coming in close. I also used to hate Spock, but when I watched more and more of the series and understood the Vulcan race more- I understood why he was the way he was. I also read alot of the books that were written by Shatner and such- some of which were about his boyhood and stuffs. >< I still like Sarek more for reasons unexplained. Also, I love the movie where Spock dies- it made me cry inside. T_T But then I was like..."aw...it's mini Spock" when he was reborn on Genesis.

Mizayo 08-16-2010 01:29 PM

Aww, I've never seen the movies. :(

I actually just started watching Star Trek this month, after Dad got me hooked to it. I really got into Voyager, I think because Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway) plays the voice of Flemeth in Dragon Age: Origins (another of my addictions) and I just wanted to hear her voice more. Then the story kind of sucked me in and now I can't tear away from it. I was searching for good episodes on Youtube when I saw this one called "Blood Fever". The first time I learned about Pon Farr. Hehehehe....
ANYWAYS, the moment I heard Vorik's (Alexander Enberg) voice, I fell in love! In my opinion, Vorik would have to be the smexiest Vulcan in Star Trek. (Other than T'Pol, but she's for the men lol)

Hey guys, if any of you want to, you can read my Star Trek Fanfic on DeviantART.com. It's about my betazoid OC and Vorik! It's called thoughts. Here's the link if you want it : Mizayo's Gallery

I actually hated star trek period, for the longest time. Star wars was my thing. My friend finally convinced me to watch Star Trek Reboot, and I fell in love with it.
Then, I started watching ToS, and started to hate ReBoot. XD
I finally figured out they were two different dimensions, and settled into liking them both. I actually started writing fics for the Reboot crew, on lit-mech.deviantart.com. I can't write TOS Spock, but I think Reboot Spock is a little more...emotional? I don't know.
Anyway.

I still can't get into the later Treks, I dont know why.

Mizayo 08-22-2010 07:50 PM

Well, I haven't gotten to see any of the movies yet. And I wasn't very interested in the Reboot. Something about other people acting as originals bother me. Like if someone quit a show, and they tried to replace him/her with another that looked like them, I would freak. Don't know why.
Maybe you don't want to stray too far from the Original Series. I started out on Voyager, but now I'm watching so much TOS, that I'm beginning to loose interest in Voyager. Sad, I know, but that's just how it works.
Hahaha, can you imagine being me? I'm a 13-year-old girl who is in love with an unemotional fictional character that in reality it about 80 years old now. And when you're like me, you either hate it, or obsess over it. And that can be hard.

PrincessBane 08-23-2010 02:53 PM

I never cared for Voyager personally. I like the original series and The Next Generation. After that, it just kinda lost it for me. >> I didn't care for the new captains or designs.

Mizayo 08-24-2010 01:30 AM

I can understand that completely. Now that I've started to pay attention to some of the media, it seems that Voyager was not one of the more popular ones. Even less in DS9. I think I'm beginning to like TOS much more now.
As for The Next Generation, I'd have to give it a 7/10 for me. I liked Deanna (Did I spell that right?) and Riker (Wasn't his first name Will?) And I love Patrick Stewart. Haha, go X-Men!

ChaosCass13 08-24-2010 02:48 AM

... I'm a star wars fan...

But I do like the hand signal thing, and the quote, "live long and prosper"

At least, I THINK that's the quote.

Mizayo 08-24-2010 10:52 AM

Yeah, that's it. Did you know Leanard Nimoy (Spock) actually came up with that himself?

PrincessBane 08-25-2010 12:52 AM

You spelled it right. I like Deanna and Riker too(Yea, his first name was Will. But everyone calls him Riker, lulz). Though Data will always be my favourite, followed by Capt. Picard. I always have trouble deciding whether I like him or Kirk better. Lol. Patrick Stewart is win and btw, I'm still convinced that he really is Xavier. Just like Hugh Jackman really is Wolverine. <3

ChaosCass13 08-25-2010 02:06 AM

I had no idea that he came up with that! I just thought It was clever writing...

Mizayo 08-25-2010 11:21 AM

PrincessBane - Or Number One, lol. Data was a pretty good character. He used to be my favorite when I would just watch five minutes of the show with Dad and go back to my bedroom . I think Picard would have to me my favorite, character-wise and actor-wise. I don't like Williom Shatner as much. I mean, Denny Crane? Ew. Haha, they really do look like they could really be their characters (Wolverine and Xavier, I mean). Except for Hugh Jackman's accent. Isn't he, like, Australian or something?

ChaosCass13 - Yeah, I remember in a video he was talking about the hand thing. It's the Vulcan greeting, by the way. Like a human handshake. In the video, he said that they were shooting "Amok Time" (The first mention of Pon Farr, and one of the best episodes ever! XD) and he realized that they didn't have anything special to do with T'Pau (The old lady - if you ever decide to watch it) as a greeting. So they thought about it for a long time, and finally Nimoy decided they should do a hand sign, like the one the Jewish use in church. So they came up with some words to it ("Live long and prosper") and there they had the vulcan greeting! :)

PrincessBane 08-25-2010 01:46 PM

Hugh Jackman is indeed Australian, but he hides his accent so well. You can't even tell when he's acting- which is weird because his accent is really thick. c.c I love William Shatner....He's....he's...so adorable. >< I can speak Shatnerise! xD Btw, Amok Time was like one of my favourite episodes...because it had T'Pau in it...and she's epic. D: Though not as epic as Sarek. Also, I loved Khan. KHHHAAAAANNNNNN!!!!! D<

Mizayo 08-26-2010 11:10 PM

He does hide it well.
I'm not saying William Shatner is bad, of course. I'm just not a fan of a lot of his newer roles. I didn't believe he was the same guy as Denny Crane, at first. But then I looked at a pic of him as Denny and one as Kirk, and I was astonished. It's so weird... Lol
Amok Time was awesome. For some reason, I always like it when Spock smiles. I was totally suprised when I first saw the episode. I was literally like, "OMG, HE SMILED! A BIG SMILE!" I almost fainted, you know.
Um... and I thought Khan was a bad guy. Granted, I only watched half of that episode, but still... But I suppose some people could like the bad guys. I liked the Romulan commander (She's one of the women with the hots for Spock, lol)

PrincessBane 08-27-2010 12:12 AM

Oh, I know. I totally agree. Shatner keeps taking these silly roles that totally put him up for mockery. c.c I still love him as Kirk, though. Always and forever, Kirk will be my favourite Star Trek Captain. I remember that smile! I thought that too! It was so cute! <3

Khan is a bad guy- sort of. In the second Star Trek movie, he comes back to get revenge on Kirk because Kirk pretty much left him and the woman he loved along with the other superhumans on a planet. He never checked on Khan to see if he was okay, or whatnot. And what happened was the planet kinda imploded and it went from being a paradise to a living hell. Khan lost all the people he loved, along with his wife and he was trapped on that desolate planet for years. So he was consumed by his rage and that sparked him wanting to kill Kirk. But really, all in all, he was just hurting from the loss of his people and his family. He wasn't that bad, he was just a conqueror in that episode. So Kirk found him that planet and was like, "here, you can start your own world here and have a family, etc etc."

Mizayo 08-28-2010 03:28 AM

Kirk is pretty awesome, isn't he? Hehehe...

Ah, I see. I didn't know all that. I just watched about half of "Space Seed", which if I recall correctly, is the first time he appeared. I didn't feel too sorry for him then.

PrincessBane 08-30-2010 02:09 PM

It is. D: You gotta see the rest of the episode and then the movie that goes along with it. You might still not feel sorry for him, but I kinda did...>> I mean...he was pretty much left to die after watching his loved ones get killed by the unstable planet right in front of him. That tends to warp people alittle bit. And remember, Khan was made the way he was so that he could be a superhuman weapon, if I recall correctly. D: His woman was like me...she had a fascination with conquerors. <3 Alexander the Great FTW

Mizayo 08-30-2010 10:22 PM

Hahaha, Alexander The Great! Yeah... I know that guy...

Yeah... uh... I don't know how to respond to that, lol. Oh, but my dad has the movie! So I guess I should probably finish the episode and then watch the movie, huh? I think I'll do that.

PrincessBane 08-31-2010 02:08 PM

.. D: Do you REALLY know Alexander? -eyesquint- lulz. [He's my favourite historical figure]

It's great movie. >< I really liked the episodes where Spock randomly falls in love...o.o They always make him act so...well...silly. xD I remember when I found out that George Takei was gay...I was like..."But Zulu...always hit on Uhura....T___T"

Mizayo 08-31-2010 09:51 PM

I know, Spock is so adorable when he is forced to show emotion (God, that sounded so horrible :XD).

Sulu's.... GAY? Aww, I didn't know that... Pooey. I wonder how my friend's going to take this...

PrincessBane 09-01-2010 02:06 PM

Lol....I know, and he always has the biggest smiles! xD

Yea, he's gay. He's one of the first people to have gotten married to his boyfriend along with Ellen Degeneres. I was shocked too...>>

Mizayo 09-01-2010 09:37 PM

Hehe. I wonder if there are more secrets I should know about...?
