Cliche, done too often; good idea? o.o

Was thinking of writing a story. Very basic idea so far, but was wondering if it sounded cliche or if it's just been done too many times before. Here's the short summary I'm thinking of using.

Calliah was thrilled. Her old car had broken two weeks previously, and she had to walk - and find rides where she could. On her way to an appointment, she finds a car hidden in the brush. The sign says, "If you can start me you can have me - please take care of me." Though she thought it out, Calliah tries the car and it instantly starts up. However, after a couple of days with the car, Calliah starts to feel like she's being watched, and not alone whenever driving. Strange things keep happening in the car, and she begins to think her new car might be haunted.

Way bad summary, but the general idea is there. I hope? I'm thinking maybe the car's previous owner is haunting it, and he's lonely so he traps her in the car and tries to steal her soul to keep him company. Or something. Ideas, thoughts, and anything else welcome. O:

Actually, I quite like the idea. The only thing that I think is too "cliched" is the sign itself. If you rephrased it or simply left it off, I think it'd be a great short story.

I think the only thing I'd work out before I started writing was why he's in the car and why he's so lonely. Did he die in the car after a breakup? Any general idea before you start writing.

I really hope you do. It sounds like it'd be a great short horror story. =D

Ooh. Thanks for the input! <3
That does actually make sense. Maybe the sign isn't necessary at all, now that you mention it.

I'll have to think about how he got in there, though. o.o Make it some twisted horror story. Maybe I'll wait for November for NANOWRIMO.

Seems like it could be a promising story if written right. I would for sure leave the sign out though. I think that if cliches are done well they can work.
