@Lore: Hm. Okay. I think I can work with that. -thumbs up!-
Also so would I! MEGU. BE ARTSY. @Megu: I LOVE SILLY ANTICS OF OVER CAPS USE YAY Also, you've never seen The Shining before? Really? Man I really liked that movie. I heard King HATES it though. Mika amuses me greatly. I don't think he's not useful, it's just that he chooses self preservation before anything else. I'm... not really sure if that's good or bad. |
pssssst
you guys lori is laughing at us we must work harder at this puzzle watch her carefully for clues [/narrows eyes at her all concentrating-like, tracing her movement] |
Pft. It is less laughing at you and more being proud of myself. I really, really expected you guys to get this immediately and be all "Oh that was supposed to be a puzzle?"
I am glad that you have not gotten it just yet! |
WHAT WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT I DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING [/whistles innocently]
[/out of corner of mouth] you guys i think she's on to us keep it on the dee-ell |
Full disclosure: I'm not good with non-visual puzzles. I'm a very visually based person and since I can't see this playing out in front of me, even as if it were on television, it makes the puzzle that much more difficult for me.
|
There are actually clues in the text, though I'm not sure if that counts.
Also, actually all of the puzzles (except this one) started out as visual based MYST like puzzles before I realized "Oh yeah. This is a text based forum. DERP A DERP." So admittedly some of the later puzzles well either be really obvious because I basically have to tell you or otherwise be really awkward. Sorry, I'll do better next time. D= |
Hm, I'll have to take another look at the text. CZ should be posting when he gets off from work. Sorry about the huge delay in IC posts!
Also, would Eleanor be able to see what the lady crying in the corner is doing if she were to scry for it? Since it's happening right now she might be able to see it via Agatha if she's in physical contact with the older woman. |
No problem! It gives me time to do my homework. xD
She could indeed! But to be honest the idea of what's happening now instead of past or future doesn't have such a huge impact in the inn. |
Hmm... *ponders*
|
Okay soooo I'm in overthinking-everything mode for this puzzle. Might as well start bouncing ideas off you guys. Lori knows from experience I have very bad luck with these sorts of things ("HONEYCAKES" [/injoke]) so Y'KNOW
I'mma link all the text so far that seems to be vaguely related to the puzzle. Just to have it all in one place so I can overthink some more 8D SPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILERNow I only linked the last one because I'm vaguely suspicious of Agatha's using "case" instead of "box." But my intuition for these things is shot sooo. Lori was that totally unintentional and I'm just being stupid? The woman might be some sort of red herring, I guess. But I suspect she's Amy from the letter who tried to run out with "it." Unless she's the person writing the letter, or the fourth person who I think is implied somewhere in there. (I'd go into my logic for that, but I don't know how important it is. Although Lori's comments about the past and future not really mattering to the inn make me suspicious. But somebody more sensible should probably judge that.) My first instinct is that the box is "it" but it's entirely possible it's something else. In fact, the more I read the letter, the more I think it is something else-- they took it as far away as they can get it but they can't get it past the door, so unless there's some space-bending going on it shouldn't be back by the cellar, right? Which means we should be looking by the door. The earlier mention of it being either the front door or the cellar door also makes me suspicious, since without that, I would definitely have assumed the cellar door. [/brick'd] |
I was thinking the lady is Amy from the letter too. I say we pry open the floor a little more out of curiosity. We also need to get that number to open the box. Perhaps we can do both at once?
|
I will openly admit I used case because Agatha couldn't see it and Eleanor used the term case. I was originally going to use box, but realized that it wouldn't make any sense since Agatha couldn't see it for herself.
Also, lawl to your luck with these things, Megu. I've run prototypes of stuff like this for Megu before. And I think you give yourself too little credit, Megu. At least nobody died because you got the wrong answer! Uwe got tortured and Nathan almost drowned, but so far so good! Unless you count Iacobus getting stabbed through the chest. I don't really know if "Nathan's got to heal him" is really considered a PUZZLE or not, so much as just a series of events that could've gone multiple ways. But yeah, if you count that, Megu got an NPC killed before. I'M JUST WARNING YOU GUYS. Also being a jerk. I enjoy being a jerk. =D OH AND MEGU YOU FIGURED OUT THE PUZZLE. THE ANSWER IS HONEYCAKES. THE ANSWER IS ALWAYS HONEYCAKES. |
I agree, I agree. I think the number or at least a clue to it is up by the door. Something's there, anyways.
Also, pft, now I have to tell this story. So there was this password I was supposed to be getting in this game, and the whole thing was themed around Greek mythology so the watchdogrobot thing was Charon, and the password was something you'd use to get around Charon. So at first I guessed "music," and when that was wrong Lori gave me some other clue...but said something to the effect of "The Greek word for [blank]." Soooo I went looking for the Greek word for the thing lol. I think the Ancient Greek actually. Um. Then I tried "honeycake" and she was all SO CLOSE so I was all "H-HONEYCAKES?" and...that was wrong...it was "barleycake" wasn't it? But luckily my character didn't die. I think Lori just gave it to me at that point 8D Then again, when I design puzzles it goes the opposite way. I once tried to get my friend to do a cipher with her only clue QWE, where the idea was you had to swap out the letters on a keyboard for the letters in the order they are in the alphabet, Q=A, W=B, and so on. Except I considered using the DVORAK keyboard instead of the QWERTY for a very long time before I figured out nobody but me knows what that is I probably would have still done it if I was GMing for Lori though. As revenge. |
Yeah it was Barleycake. Which I gave to you because there really ARE a million versions of that story and I simply didn't realize. And I think it was to get past Cerebus not Charon. (Charon was the name of the ship, silly.) And of course I couldn't kill Corinne! Captain Seehr would have had all SORTS of paper work to fill out and he would not have liked that at all.
xD THANKS FOR TELLING ME IN ADVANCE, MEGU. I WILL KEEP THIS IN MIND IF EVER YOU GM FOR ME. Especially since you could still pull something like that for Invention of Invention where you ARE basically GMing. [/I'm watching you] AND MAN WHAT ARE YOU EVEN COMPLAINING ABOUT. REVENGE. REALLY. YOU GOT TO HANG OUT WITH DOCTOR ORLOV WHO IS POSSIBLY ONE MY FAVORITEST NPCs I'VE EVER CREATED. HE'S UP THERE WITH IACOBUS. |
It sounds like you two are the people to talk to about an idea I have for an RP that's a murder mystery based in a modern fantasy setting that Eleanor originally comes from.
|
Oooo~ Sounds like fun! I'd love to be in a mystery rp that I wasn't GMing. I love me some puzzle games!
|
It's such a relief to have found you and Meguzu. I normally get stuck with GMing and while I enjoy it here lately it's been becoming a drag. It's so much fun to just play in someone else's game. :)
---------- That reminds me - would either of you mind if I friend listed you here on Menewsha? |
I'm really glad you guys are having fun, you don't even know. I've never actually GMed for anyone other than Megu before and I think sometimes she just humors me. (Because she is a wonderful person! <32)
And of course not! Yay for friends! |
Lori : Oh. Right. Duuuuur I knew there was something wrong with that sentence. BUT CORINNE AND CHARON MUST ALWAYS BE TOGETHER D':
Also that would break the fourth wall so I can't do it. SINCE WHEN WOULD LIN KNOW WHAT A KEYBOARD EVEN IS HUH. YOU KNOW WHAT? NO. YOU KILLED IACOBUS AS I RECALL. POOR NATHAN. LOOK AT POOR NATHAN AND HIS TRAUMATIZED FACE. Also pft nah you were born to GM. I'm in for it any day Lore : Duuude I've been craving a murder mystery ever since my last RP one ended 8D I'd be down to help you brainstorm or make puzzles any day. Also: COURSE NOT 8D |
@Megu: xD OH OF COURSE. BECAUSE WITHOUT SOMEONE THERE TO SHOOT THINGS FOR HER HOW EVER WILL SHE SURVIVE! Also, all our AUs with characters makes me laugh. I kind of just realized how little sense we make to everyone else.
OH THIS IS TRUE. THANK GOD. LIN CAN'T HANDLE THAT. Lin: I solve puzzles in temples all the time. I'm not stupid. D'= Shut up Lin. I'm trying to make a point of not getting SERVED WITH REVENGE here. WELL MAYBE IF NATHAN HAD DONE WHAT A HEALER IS SUPPOSED TO DO A HEALED IACOBUS' LEG HE WOULD HAVE SPUN OUT OF THE WAY INSTEAD OF TRIPPING AND GETTING STABBED THROUGH THE CHEST WITH THE MONSTER'S CLAW HAND THING. D=< @Murder Myster Convo: Yesss you guys all plan and I will join and be amazed by magical mysteries of solving puzzles! Edit:: Oh for Lore and CZ I guess I should make a point of saying that I won't be killing of anybody's characters except my own. So no need to worry about all this talk of me killing characters. Iacobus was my character. -thumbs up- |
Oh oh oh! So let's have a quick run down!
It's a modern fantasy setting; there's a village "owned" by a very, very rich vampire on several hundred acres of forested land where creatures of European folklore can frolic and carry on with their lives. People have started to go missing and a mortal (read: human) "Hero" has set off on a quest to discover why and to stop the madness. (He might have been hired the vampire or not. Heroes are commonly humans who have an innate skill in wandering into trouble and solving it. Uhm, not too unlike Fable's concept of Heroes.) I wanted to mix and match all kinds of folklore to make this work. Like the Hero would be a Seventh Son and he'd have a Questing Party. But keeping it all together in my head is kind of messy. I need to be writing this down. |
@Lore: You had me at 'owns a town' and 'Fable like heroes'. YES I AM SO DOWN FOR THIS. I think my first question would be about the Questing Party, would they all be heroes too or just random passerbys that kind of wandered in on the action? Second question (this from a fellow GM) do you know why they are going missing or not?
|
I do know! A wizard is tricking or outright kidnapping people to use them as sacrifices in blood magic to raise his long dead lover. Who, as we know all zombies do, will proceed to eat his brains. Mebbe. I'm considering that as an ending.
Questing Parties are usually pulled together by Fate so there'd be some connection between these people and the Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, hereby known as the Chosen One or Hero. Like, the healer of the party may join the Quest of the Chosen One because he saved their puppy from a gruesome death. See what I mean? |
RPing convo : YES I would enjoy that this happens 8DDD Mixing and matching and playing around with tropes is my FAVORITE ACTIVITY. Also, questing and folklore is just epically fun. I'm down yo. Zombie lover sounds like a pretty awesome ending too psh. [/sits back to listen to more about this because I have no questions]
( Lori and me making no sense convo : Making no sense to anybody is the BEST. I feel like I'm speaking a secret language here, it's awesome. I MEAN WHAT WOULD SHE DO, TIME TRAVEL. Okay, I guess that's not so far fetched. Emeric: DDDD:< TIME TRAVEL IS IMPOSSIBLE Okay, okay ALSO DID YOU EVER THINK MAYBE NATHAN'S HEALER SELF-ESTEEM IS LOW BECAUSE HE'S JUST A STUDENT HUH. DID YOU THINK THAT. NO YOU DID NOT. ALSO MAYBE THAT I DIDN'T REALLY THINK ABOUT IT TOO HARD BECAUSE NATHAN'S HEALER SKILLS HAVE NEVER OTHERWISE PROVED USEFUL.BESIDES WHAT WAS HE GONNA DO DEMAND THAT IACOBUS LET NATHAN HEAL HIM? IACOBUS? HE'S SCARY LIKE ORLOV BUT A VAMPYRE HE IS LIKE VAMPYRE ORLOV [/deep breaths] ) |
(@Megu: Iacobus is not an idiot! He knew he needed help! I even gave you hints in text! I WAS ALL, OH IACOBUS LEG IS HURT. IT HURTS HIM. OWIE. HE SURE HOPES HE DOESN"T RUN INTO ANY MONSTERS LIKE THIS. I EVEN GAVE YOU ONE DESPERATE LAST SHOT AND NATHAN STILL DIDN'T DO IT.
SOMEDAY IACOBUS, YOU WILL COME BACK AS A VAMPIRE GHOSTY DUDE AND BE AWESOME. KIND OF LIKE MALOCH. Except not kidnapped and beaten up and generally failing at your job.) @Lore: I wish I could think of some awesome fable/fantasy things to be all "Oh yeah! Throw THIS in" but I can't think of any because apparently my mind is taken over my eldritch abominations right now. |
