So, my brother wanted to sign up..

My brother wanted to sign up for Menewsha after seeing me chat in the art forum and play 'Attack Of The Fan Girls'. He clicked sign up on the front page, filled out the form, and it wouldn't let him submit it. Everything was correct but when he clicked submit nothing happened. It wouldn't work so he emailed Menewsha for help, using their 'Contact Us' link at the bottom of the page.

It won't let me join the site and it's a tad bothersome.
Can you guys help?
After he emailed them he was sent to a strange website that was in Russian. He ignored it and waited for a email back. When he checked his email today he was shocked to find such a rude response to his ask for help.

We'd be happy to if you actually had signed up and weren't providing a
false referring page.

Have a great day!
He's not signed up, because he can't yet! Should I have emailed support for him? And the referring page was the strange page in all Russian that he was sent to after sending the email. Could there be something wrong with the site? Has anyone else had problems signing up?

This is really weird... Are you sure he went to the right website? I mean, there might be some replica of mene or something...a scam...
Other than that, I don't know what to say

Sara Obscura 09-02-2010 01:27 AM

Oh, yea, I'm sure it was the right one. I don't know why he was directed to that Russian thing. :gonk:

Vickyll3 09-02-2010 02:30 AM

Oh my this is so weird kinda scary too, this does not sound like the Mene at all.
This sound very fishy to me, must be a scam

But I dont understand how this happen if he used the link from Mene's front page.

Mama Juru 09-02-2010 03:21 AM

Unfortunately the submission he sent to us had that crazy url in it. I am unsure what web address he used originally to sign up (or attempt to since he is not signed up at all) but it was not through our site. We have had several feedback emails come in both before and after his and none of them have that URL in it.

He can attempt to sign up now. Let me know if he still has trouble.

Sara Obscura 09-02-2010 10:53 PM

Okay. He is trying to sign up. When he presses submit, nothing happens. I don't know why, it just won't load. I'm using the newest version of Mozilla Firefox and I'm running Windows XP. Oh, I have Ad-block plus, could that be causing a problem.

He didn't put that URL in his message. I have no idea how that even appeared there. What does that URL have to do with him not being able to sign up?

Mama Juru 09-03-2010 03:16 AM

What happens in Internet Explorer?

Bartuc 09-03-2010 09:50 AM

No, the newest version of Firefox would not cause this site to appear in russian. Have him try this link: http://www.menewsha.com/
Then click at the bottom that says "Sign up for free" in the bottom right hand cornerish. That should take him to an english sign up pop-up. Sorry I cannot give more of a direct link. The way the site is operating now doesnt do a sign-up page of its own with its URL.

What computer is he using to try to sign up, yours or his. It sounds to me like he's got some computer problems if there is unauthorized redirects and embedded links in his emails.

I'd suggest this. You can put the malware scanner on a USB data stick so that it stays uninfected while it scans his computer. I'll bet it finds something.

Sara Obscura 09-03-2010 07:52 PM

The site did/does not appear in Russian ever. I did not say that.
I also did not say the link was in his email.
I have no idea how he was redirected there,
but somehow that link was put in the email he sent requesting help.
And there is nothing wrong with the computer.

@Mama Juru: How did that link get in the email he sent to you?
Did he paste it there when he sent you the request for help?

Anyway! It was Ad-block. A commonly used Firefox add-on! :3
I turned it off and he submitted a request to join yesterday.
How soon should he expect an email reciprocating his join request?

Mama Juru 09-04-2010 07:47 AM

His email should have already arrived unless it was marked spam, which will create other issues. Have him check the spam folder and the trash. If it's not there I'll send another.

As far as the link it sounds as though it originated from whatever computer he was using when he submitted the request for help. I'd scan for virus, malware, etc. No one else's submissions have come in that way and we get a large amount of email.

Weird... if I didn't already have a mule I'd test it... but maybe have him sign up on your computer?

Sara Obscura 09-05-2010 03:13 AM

@Mama Juru: Okay, I'll scan again to make sure!

Ohhh, I found out that link was to a Russian die and tooling company.
My dad is a machinist so maybe it has to do with my dad.
D: I still have no idea though.

He didn't receive the email, could you send another?

@Tijdon: Post is unrelated??? o_o

@The Wandering Poet: I have figured out what was causing the problem.
Thanks though. >w<

Thank you everyone who has been helping us!

Mama Juru 09-07-2010 07:53 AM

What username did he sign up with so that I can re-send the activation email?

CK 09-07-2010 10:52 PM

I doubt it has anything to do with Ad-Block plus as I use Ad-Block Plus on my own computer and when I sent a test via the Contact Us link the text was not added... So it sounds like your brother's computer has been compromised.

Sara Obscura 09-08-2010 04:23 AM

Adblock was what was keeping him from clicking the submit button after he entered the information when he was trying to sign up through the front page registration. The link was unrelated to adblock, sorry if it sounded like that. His computer is not compromised in any way.

He signed up as Chrono Obscura.

Mama Juru 09-08-2010 06:14 AM

Can he send an email directly from that account to [email protected]? The reason being is that we received this error:

Quote:

[email protected] bounced with code 554 because 554 delivery error: dd This user doesn't have a yahoo.com account ([email protected]) [0] - mta1027.mail.ac4.yahoo.com

Sara Obscura 09-08-2010 10:36 PM

Whoops, he must have put in the wrong thing!
I'm so sorry about the confusion. D:
His email address is [email protected].
