Summary: In dying twilight, in breaking day. When negativity reaches its peak, who shall rise up to stop it? Emotions are such a powerful thing.
‘Creak, Creak’

A dark hair teenager quietly edged through the broken ruins of a castle. His bright eyes darted back and forth at the slightest movement in the shadows. His hands were sweaty and a tight knot had formed in his throat.

‘Why oh why did I have to draw the short straw?’ Apostol moaned silently in his head.

He nervously made it to what appeared to be the remains of a living room and glanced around. Behind him, the sun was slowly setting. In a matter of minutes, all traces of sunlight would disappear and with it, went his only sole protection should things go horribly wrong.

“What do we have here? A tasty treat?”

Apostol turned around towards the sound of the voice, only to go flying into the wall. “Oomph!” he said as he was pinned against it by his neck. His eyes widened at the sight before him. A young woman with long white hair and vicious smile stared back at him. Perhaps the one thing that scared him the most was her fangs. ‘Vampire.’

“Hello,” she greeted. “You know for the years I’ve been living here, it still amazes me how many humans foolishly wander into my house, practically asking me to make them my breakfast. Why are you here little one?” Her grip tightened a little around his neck. “Let me guess. A friendly little bet with your friends? I surely hope not because you’ll never make it back,” she casually guessed.

Apostol struggled to breathe. “N-no,” he stuttered out. “I-I have a letter from the Prime Minister Josephina Gunner, the Order of the Purgare.”

The grip on his neck loosened slightly. “The Order of the Purgare? What could the Holy Order that hunts down Creatures of the Night want with me?” the vampire questioned.

“I-I d-don’t know. The letter is in my bag.”

Without letting go of Apostol’s neck, the vampire easily pulled the letter out of the bag, opening it up. It read:

Ms. Vampire Seito,

The Order of the Purgare wishes to speak with you on non-violent terms in hopes of forming a truce between the two of us. As I realize you have no reason to trust us, you may pick the time and the place as to where you wish to meet to discuss this. It is of upmost urgency that we meet.

Seito’s eyebrow rose. “Ms. Vampire Seito? Is that really the best you people could come up with it?”

Apostol coughed, still having trouble breathing with her hand around his neck. “I’m sorry?” he weakly apologized.

Seito gave a miffed sound and let go of him. Apostol dropped to the ground with a ‘thud’. “What’s your name boy?” she asked finally.

“A-Apostol, ma’am,” Apostol answered. “Please don’t eat me.”

Seito glared at him, causing Apostol to give an ‘eep!’ and scoot further away from her. “If,” she articulated carefully, “I ate you, you would not be able to return this message. Tell your Prime Minister this: she has until sundown tomorrow to return here in person, by herself. If she isn’t here by the time I wake tomorrow, if this turns out to be a trap, I will turn your precious city into my personal hunting ground. Am. I. Clear?”

Apostol gulped nervously. “Yes, ma’am,” he replied.

“Good. Now go.”

Apostol turned and ran as fast as he could. Once he had disappeared into the darkness of the night, Seito flopped down onto the nearby chair. Her grey eyes narrowed as she turned to read the engraving that hung on the wall.

“I have a bad feeling about this.”

Josephina Gunner or Nia as she preferred, had a headache.

Needless to say she was not a happy person. The day had barely begun and already the old fools of the council were already giving her stress. She chewed on a lock of her vivid green hair, silently praying this meeting would come to an end.

Four hours ago at three in the morning Apostol had arrived back to the Candide Chateau, the Order of Purgare’s main headquarters with a response from Seito that Nia had been waiting for. She was extremely pleased the vampire girl had at least given her the chance to explain things properly to her.

Yet despite the fact that the Apostol had arrived at three in the morning, the fools of the councils manage to hear about it and they did what they always did: called a meeting. So four hours later, Nia is still listening to the argument that seeking help for the issue from a vampire of all things was a bad idea.

“Enough!” she finally snapped back. The room fell into a silence.

“I have a deadline,” Nia hissed. “Seito specifically told Apostol that if I was not at her house by sun down today, she would turn the city of Oma into her hunting ground.”

“Why on earth would you even send the letter in the first place!” one of the council members cried. “You literally handed yourself on a silver platter to her.”

Nia closed her eyes and rubbed her temples. “The Order of Purgare has known of Seito’s existence for at least the last 1,000 years. In that time period she has not attacked anyone who did not wander into her hunting ground in the first place. Said hunting ground is also clearly marked as Vampire Hunting Ground with at least over two dozen signs placed around the perimeter. I think it’s quite safe to say that she’s probably one of the most non-violent Creature of the Night that we can safety come in contact with.”

“But!”

“No,” Nia interrupted. “Regardless of what you say, we need her strength. If our research is right, only a Creature of Night will be able to do this and I rather make a truce with one I know that doesn’t go out of her way to terrorize every human instead of one that does.”

Without giving the council members another chance to speak, Nia charged out of the meeting room. Waiting for her outside, was a young man with pale blue hair. A double edged sword hung at his waist incase in a red scabbard.

“Kaelin,” Nia said. “You are back early.”

Kaelin gave her an easy smile. “Ah, there were rumors that you were planning to do something reckless, Prime Minister. I rushed back here as fast as I could.”

Nia rolled her eyes. “Reckless. Remind me to fire whoever is spreading that rumor and remind me to assign those batty old croons to the cruelest punishment I can muster since damn charter laws say I cannot fire those incompetent fool.”

“Of course.”

“Alright then. Hold down the fort while I’m gone Kaelin,” Nia ordered. Without waiting for his reply, she continued her march out of the Candide Chateau. She just hoped Seito would agree.
