The Lord of the Rings film trilogy
 

I have to say that Lord of the Rings, despite its departures from the books in some ways, is one of my favorite fantasy epics of all time. The storytelling was amazing, the special effects were unsurpassed for its time and the messages inherent in each movie when they were released were poignant. All in all, a remarkable set of films, and in the words of the great Sir Christopher Lee, "What you have achieved... is sheer magic. All of you, and I think that is the operative word. ALL of you."

What are your thoughts on these movies?

I loved them. It's funny, I live in New Zealand so occasionally I'll be watching them and go. I KNOW THAT PLACE!!!

Kole, I definitely understand where you are coming from, and agree to some extent. Though I do realize that they were as faithful to the books as they possibly could have been, as Peter Jackson is himself, an immense fan of the books. And it does show. But also, for the sake of budget they were given, they had no choice but to leave some scenes out. Though with the extended editions, a few select scenes that were unfortunately left out were included and it did help to expand and explain the story further, which I enjoyed.

I was a bit disappointed when I watched the extended additions, they still did not add the scenes that would have made the movie great. For instance, I know they left out farmer Maggot quite a bit, and a bit more of the shire drama that took place. They should have honored the old forest with the Willow tree encounter with Tom Bombadill and then the really bad ass scene they left out was the encounter in the barrow downs which I couldn't believe was not added in. The romance with Arwyn I thought was a bit too much really, they took a little too much liberty with that part. In the Return of the King, not doing the episode of the Scouring of the Shire even though it may have been anticlimatic, when they killed Saruman off in the end of the Two Towers movie, I was like... ahhhhh man,..really?!

I know! The scouring of the shire was great! But ohwell, they can't do everything I guess.

Well, I hope eventually they do a computer animated graphic movie of the lord of the rings trilogy with everything in it someday. I know that if you play the game Fellowship of the Ring which they had for the microsoft xbox and the play station two, that you did not miss one chapter in the book and you had to play through everything. I thought it was a charming little game even though it was not made by EA games using the movie characters. It was definitely really cool.

The scouring of the shire to me was the hobbits reaffirming their abilities that lied dormant that they used in ultimaltely saving the free peoples of middle earth.

I love all the series books, if they do it they need to do it in its entirity. I cannot wait to see the Hobbit movie once it finally comes out.

Oh yeah! The hobbit was awesome! I loved all the names that Bilbo used on the dragon.

Oh and by the way... "THE EAGLES ARE COMING!"

The names Bilbo used on the dragon? The dragon's name was Smog, I wonder what names you are talking about.

The dragon asks bilbo his name... and bilbo says that he's "Barrel rider, something something something.." I can't remember them all at the moment, but it was awesome.

Oh that part lol, yea, you're right that part was just Bilbo being the clever little hobbit he was and buying himself time to stay hidden and to continue to look for a weak point in Smog's hyde. It was definitely cool. I really enjoyed the book too.

Yay! I wasn't hallucinating. It was definitely cool. But back on topic, (snigger) Do you know when the movie is due to be released?

THat was one of my favorites too...lol. I like in the extended edition how Frodo tells same that Rosy knows an idiot when she sees one lol. That is such a light hearted film in the beginning but begins gradually to darken. I wished they had the scene where Frodo danced and sang for the Prancing Pony in Bree. That would have rocked-- they have that scene in the cartoon movie that Ralph Bashki did which in my opinion was pretty cool-- It made me think of Aragorn as more of an American Indian kind of ranger guy for the longest time because it was the movie that actually got me interested in reading the books.

That's kinda awesome. No, I like the Two Towers best...
