I want crit = 3=
Hey guys! I drew this yesterday after not touching my tablet for about a month and I'd like to know what you all think.
http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...althistime.png It's way messy and I need to study lighting a lot more, but how is it overall? What looks good? What needs more work? Help would be very much appreciated. Like, I really want to make the shadows of his eye... spaces... um, area-beneath-the-eyebrows a cooler color than it is now. Would that be a good idea? Also is anybody familiar with blending in Corel Painter Essentials 3? This is my first time futzing around with it - blending I mean, not the program. But yeah. Critique would be awesome. |
Lol my brain is so slow right now. xD
*tries to comprehend everything* One thing I notice right away is it seems his eyes may be looking in slightly different directions. Perhaps put the iris of the left eye (the eye farthest away) aimed slightly higher up. Try also adding more shadows along the jawline and a more noticeable, darker color in places like under the chin. And if you would like the shadows to be a cooler tone, try adding some blue or purple to his color palette for the skin. Probably purple. For some reason I find that purple works better than blue for tanned skin. I hope that helped some! Over all I think he looks very nice, and you've done an excellent job so far. : DDD |
Not bad, I do like his hair cut. But as for critique, I would say your biggest problem is you're sticking with the safe, boring, neutral color palettes. If you want to make it interesting and have a good use of color I suggest looking into some color theory. If you want to make shaded parts more cool, since you already have orange and yellow, use purple and blue for shading. Refer to the basic color wheel and study the importance of complementary colors. I would also suggest using a circular brush with the oppacity set down to maybe 20-40% so you can blend the colors better. If the color still goes on with harsh edges, keep lowering the oppacity until you can comfortably lay down the color, slowly building it up to the darker parts by repeatedly going over the same area. Hope this helps. :)

The thing with his eyes completely passed under my radar - I'll pay more attention to that in the future. And color theory, right... I'll look into that. I never thought to change the opacity either.
Thank you both so much! Colors, colors, colors. Time to play with my tablet some more~ > 3< |
