Pentagram inscription help? Whats your thought on them?
Hey all.
I think this is the right place to put this thread. If its not, please feel free to tell me & move it if you wish. Anyways. So my friend recently found this pentagram pendant in his mothers jewelry box. She never knew what it really was or what it meant. So he showed it to me & asked me what i think is inscribed on it. Now.. i don't personally know, But it is bugging the hell out of me. I'm tossing up between Islamic/Arabic inscriptions OR Celtic Rune. Here is the image he sent me http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._4075534_n.jpg Any help from out there? My other question is what is your opinion on the pentagram & its origin/meaning? Do you know much bout this sort of thing? or are you hard core into it? haha |
That looks Islamic to me. Not that I'm an expert, but it doesn't register as Celtic at all. And if it were Celtic, it'd likely be more decorative (at least according to my knowledge =/). The inscription would most likely be describing what each point stands for...
Honestly, I see nothing wrong with the pentagram. I'm familiar with the Celtic/Pagan ties to the symbol, but I don't know if the meaning is different in Islamic tradition. =/ Wish I could be more help, sorry! Though, now I'm pretty curious m'self, so hopefully somebody here will know and I'll learn something new! :D |
haha yeah that was my 1st thought to.
especially around the edges of the symbol itself. i only thought of possible rune Celtic because of a few symbols in the middle. It is fairly old, so they could be worn out. But i am defiantly agreeing with you in the Islamic sense. I like the followings of Celtic/Pagan religions to. Its that or peace & harmony. & embodiment. so its a lot more self sufficient & the idea of the pentagram is thought of in so many bad ways when it is actually a symbol of protection against evil. I realy hope someone can offer a bit more light on what is inscribed to. I am just so damn curious haha |
It's pagan. European pagan. Islamic ones don't have the lettering around it from what I know of. I believe it's the European version of it that has the markings like that. Someone correct me if I am wrong. It's been a long time since I studied pentagrams and meanings. I think it's interesting how so many different religions use the pentagram and inverted pentagrams.

Ohh well thats good.
we have narrowed it down haha. Now to decipher the meaning. I do have a feeling it is depicting the 5 points of life or the elements. But i could be wrong? Yes. i find it rather amusing myself. so many people see this symbol as that of evil & satanic embellishments. ah well.. i wear one every day =) |
Oddly enough, it strikes me as Jewish. The writing, not the star.
|
Jewsish?
well thats something new. yeah.. it kinda does have a look of that ahy? haha yeah, i was wearing my star the other week & i got complimented by a old lady at the checkout at the supermarket *thats a lovely start of david* hahaha |
It looks Hebrew, yeah.
Or Hylian. lol. |
still nothing on what the inscription says?
i am soo curious lol |
Ohhh, mysterious. Unless I'm smoking something, that's definitely Hebrew.
|
haha..
but no1 can translate it? haha :P |
I was going to agree with everyone else that it definitely looks like it could be Hebrew-- but then again it could be runes?? I'm not really sure myself, but it definitely looks like a very nice charm or amulet. Usually witches or anyone could wear them as protection against curses.

My eyes are bad... but does that look similar? This is the Hebrew alphabet. I'm almost positive the symbols on the star are not runic. |
Yeah, it's almost certainly Hebrew. I'm not Asatru or a Celtic Recon, but I do recognize Ogham when I see it and nothing there looks familiar.
I think it's very possible that it's not "pagan" at all, but rather Qabalic. The pentacle is a very important symbol in Judeo-Christian thought (generally representing the human body), and I've seen it on a couple of seals. I would venture to say that's what it is, actually, since concentric rings are pretty common in seals. I tried to find that specific seal, without success. I would venture to say probably something involving Venus (which might be why it's copper) and, if it's anything like the other Qabalic talismans I've seen, the inscriptions are likely either the names of angels or sacred numbers. Here's a site I found selling similar jewelry: Index Maybe you can find an exact translation somewhere on there. EDIT: Or what Roxxxy said :P |
Woah! You're so smart! 0.0
|
@Roxxy: yep. they look pretty much identical.
awesome find there. I probably wouldn't have picked hebrew, I know nearly nill to nothing bout it haha. @Philomel: You just blew me out of the water there haha. So smart you are ^^ This has helped HEAPS. i will see if i can work it out & if i cant, Ill link my mate the information & he can have a crack at it ^^ you were all so helpful thanks! |
Actually, it's a Pentacle, as it is closed within a circle. A pentagram is open, no circle around it. Near as I can tell they are Hebrew symbols.
