Bon Fires?

Do you think a high school has the right to make a bon fire during a fire weather warning and smoke up the whole town, and nearly kill a lot of people with the smoke?

It happend in my town last night. It was so bad that my nose was burning, and my lungs felt like they were on fire.

Do you think the school should get away with it?
Do you think they should have at least told everyone in the town so we could prepare?

Discuss .. Go :)

We're not allowed to have bonfires ever where I live, so I really can't be sure. If they're legally permitted, then really then yes, they did have the right, even though it's an inconvenience and ignorant, it's still within their rights.

Unless the bonfire got out of control or bigger than normal, to which they did create a potentially dangerous situation knowingly, that would be wrong... but it's really hard to say that they knew the trouble it would cause because it's totally possible they just didn't think it through & it was just an accident. :/ Sucks nonetheless if it really did cause that much trouble, tho.

I love going to bon fires, but what happened to you Royal, no that shouldn't be allowed, thats a health hazard.

We have a yearly bonfire on the football field during Homecoming season. It's carefully monitored though, and the fire station is just down the block in case anything serious were to happen. I don't think there's anything wrong with it, but it should be watched and made sure that it doesn't go out of hand.

But the smoke was so bad that it was coming inside our house. It just kept getting worse. I can understand that they have the 'right' but we're under a massive fire weather warning, and aren't supposed to be burning at all. I'm going to complain wensday when school's back in. It wasn't right and my son was even coughing like crazy.

I don't think that that school should of had a bonfire, especially when the fire warning was really high. But from the sounds of it, they did so illegally. I'm pretty sure that things like that have to been cleared by the fire department.

You should definitely say something to the proper authorities about it. There's a line between having fun with it, and then being a health hazard. What about those who are asthmatic? They could have been severely hurt.

My mom has severe asthma. And I do too, but haven't been diagnosed. My mom called our police department, and found out that beside the school's bon fire, there was a big fire last night. And today they've had 5 fires in our town, and 30 in our county. Ugh, what's wrong with people? It's called a fire weather warning for a reason.

If there's a fire weather warning, then no, probably not, that's just really irresponsible. :?

I like little bonfires, we have a bunch in my neighborhood during Halloween.

What was the reason for the school having the bonfire in the first place? We've only got one side of the story here :)

Moogle 10-10-2010 09:05 AM

No, and I don't believe the school should be punished for it. I think the kids themselves should be punished. That's just ignorant, really. :/ Common sense would tell you not to do such a thing, and now they've put the environment (in even more) danger as well as peoples' health.

Wynna 10-10-2010 03:06 PM

How big was the bon fire?

I agree with HTML, it's pretty ignorant. Especially when it was during fire season, I assume there would have been fire warnings or fire bans implemented when the weather is really warm and dry. It could have gotten out of hand.

For some football game, but I've found out, that the night the school did the bon fire, we also had like 5 other fires then too. Someone's been going around setting places and things on fire. The person set more fires last night.
