Stephen king movies
 

How many of you love Stephen king movies? I know there has not been one for a while but I still love them.What are you guys favorite movies from him? :O

I love reading the book and comparing them to the movies. I always love the books more, but the movies are all right. I did not like the Stanley Kubrick version of The Shining because it was so different than the book.

IS that the older shine or the earlier one? I love the older one. RED RUM! Lol The only books I have read of Stephen kings are Carrie, Dolores Claiborne, and one other I cannot remember. A couple of his short stories too. My mom is a HUGE fan of his novels and I would pick up some of her sort stories books of his and read. He is an awesome writer.I just have gotten off on the vampire book track. (sorry I know I went off topic) ANyway, his movies are always awesome and are the best to watch on Halloween. His mind is just sooo awesome!

I have tons of his books. I'm about half way through owning all of his fiction work :cool:

I'm not sure what time each was, but in Stanley Kubrick's version, the father is played by Jack Nicholson SPOILER: (highlight) and he dies frozen in the snow while in King's version, the father sacrifices himself in the boiler room to blow up the hotel. Also, in Kubrick's the black chef is killed by the father while in King's, the black chef lives.

My favorite would have to be Dreamcatcher. I thought it was really good for being a book-to-movie transition. :yes:

Anyway My favorite move of his is Carrie. The actors were great in it.

Did you know there was a Carrie two? It was pretty awful :gonk:

Yea it was awful. Made no sense at all. But I know that is not the King's doing. lol

I think his scariest movie was IT. Most of his movies are thrilling and suspenseful, but that one was actually scary!

I really like his movies, but not half as much as I like his books! I'll admit, though, that he's one of the few authors whose movies are actually very similar to his books (with the exception of IT. The book was about 1000X as f-ed up as the movie!!).

I really liked The Langoleres. It was almost 100% the same as the story/novella. Stephen King is one of the major influences for my writing. Him and Ernest Hemmingway.

I've never seen/read that one! How is it?

I loved it. A group of people fall asleep on a commercial plane and wake up to find that all the other passengers have dissappeared...but their stuff is still there, including someone's pace maker. They have to try to figure out what happened and were everyone else went. I don't want to say too much more or it might give something away.

The only difference from the novella and the movie was what the characters were wearing. I was amazed at how close the movie stayed to the text. It's a really long movie like IT.

I think the average person who hasn't read all of Stephen King's books probably has no idea how many of them have at least inspired films that they have seen.
When I told my mum that Shawshank Redemption was written by him she flat out refused to believe me :roll: But only because she wanted to hold onto her narrow-minded opinion that he wrote "horror" and that there was something wrong with me for reading his books.

I really enjoyed the TV series that sprang from The Dead Zone. Didn't enjoy Stand By Me so much though because I really like that story and prefer to stick to my own visuals for the characters. Keifer Sutherland just doesn't seem right as Ace Merrill to me for some reason, though if I wasn't already very well up on the story he'd seem perfect I'm sure..

I love his mini series that come onto Sci-Fi every now and then. I have his book "Different Seasons" , and I love it because it's not his typical horror creeper things. That, and the The Green Mile. I haven't been able to find the written version, but I love the movie.

I kind of forced my mum to read the Green Mile, after her assertions that he was just blood and gore. She actually admitted to enjoying the book more than the film, which I felt was a victory for me. I'd have leant her Different Seasons too so she could read Shawshank, but I can imagine her being disturbed by Apt Pupil, so I didn't.

I haven't read it yet :XD Just the first part, Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption. I need to make myself get through Gerald's Game, then I think I'll read Different Seasons completely.

I've read a few Stephen King books and I have tons of them on my to-read list. At the moment, I'm loving King's "Dark Tower" series. It doesn't include his normal horror, but he can actually do fantasy! :O Movie-wise...I love "The Langoliers!" That was such a friggin' epic movie! I didn't even see the twist coming! And just to add on, my favorite King novel is "The Stand." :) I couldn't help falling in love with all the characters.

I really love Stephen King's work. Both the movies and the books. I think...one of my favourites was Carrie, since that is one of my favourite books. It seriously made me cry because I've been through that kind of bullying. I hated IT. I despise clowns as it is, but that one just was...awful. c.c It scared the crap out of me. No lie. I also loved the Shawshank Redemption. I really loved the story and I thought the movie was pretty good, personally.

i love It. i didnt really like it when i was a child. my bro used to do that voice when he said they all float. that freaked the hell outta me. i like that "Cats eye" well i like almost all his stuff.

I can't read Gerald's Game again, it's too creepy xD Same as Kujo, I won't read that once he's turned rabid because it's just too sad! All 4 in Different Seasons are good though, but The Body is a definite favourite of mine. But that's mainly because I think he writes about kids so very well. I really like the background parts of his stories that give them their substance. This is why I didn't enjoy the cinematic version of The Body because, like with any film, so much structure and character is lost.

My favourite story in the 4 Seasons was definitely Apt Pupil. That story had a definite Poe feeling to it. I loved it. It wasn't scary, it was just really really dark.

Oh my two favorite writers, Poe and King. If only they had met just once in their lives (even though it was impossible XD) I couldn't imagine what lovely and dark horrors they would bestow on mankind.

That.....would be awesome, Pweep. <3 I don't know if I could handle that much epic.
