Haha, I hope the rain does cut things short for you, since that is what you want, ^^;

And sure, I'd love to have your number!

BlackCart29 10-15-2010 11:16 PM

Yeah, I just am not really into it tonight! and I'll PM you.

zazabar 10-15-2010 11:25 PM

I sent you a text so that you could get my number, :).

zazabar 10-16-2010 09:46 PM

I know, it kind of sucks, D:

So did Cart have a good way with her new guy? :D

BlackCart29 10-16-2010 11:33 PM

I know!~ More people should come play with us!

And I did (I'm still in NH though, here till Sunday afternoon!) :3 But he's not really a new guy - we've been friends for a long time.

zazabar 10-17-2010 02:48 AM

You know what I mean, silly, But I'm glad you found someone interesting, :3. Being single can be a drag, especially when you enjoy being close to someone.

BlackCart29 10-17-2010 03:23 AM

Yup Yup.

Time for bed!~ Night Z ( haha Zzzzzzz ... IT'S A PUN!)

Hola, I'm in my first quarter of art school

BlackCart29 10-19-2010 01:35 AM

Cool - congratulations!~ I'm second term junior studying languages. You like school so far?

zazabar 10-19-2010 03:35 AM

Welcome Daniel. Hope things are going well for you, :)

nemo.love_22 10-19-2010 08:33 AM

Hello there everyone! I'm a second semester transfer freshmen, majoring in Deaf Studies with hopes in becoming a Translator/Interpreter. How're y'all doing?

Pearl 10-19-2010 08:44 AM

Second year of an American and English Literature BA, in England.

UK BAs are generally 3 years, but I'm doing 4 because my 3rd year is spent studying in the States.

nemo.love_22 10-19-2010 08:51 AM

Where did you study in the States, if you don't mind me asking?

Pearl 10-19-2010 10:15 AM

Oh, I haven't gone there yet. I need to hand in my choices form in a couple of weeks, then I find out where they're sending me next autumn.

I'd like to go to UMASS Amherst, UNC Chapel Hill, Temple (in Philly), or Framingham State MA. (Lol, Framingham)

There is a tiny place called Amherst near where I live, and the 'h' is hard. Apparently in UMASS, the 'h' is silent, I'm not quite sure how that works!

My instinct as a Brit is to give Framingham a silent 'h', but I have a feeling it'll be hard.
Places in England like Birmingham, Nottingham, Sherringham - Buckingham Palace all have silent 'h's.

Then I hear that America has its own Birmingham, except it's not Birmingum it's BirmingHam.

Welcome Hopelessly in Love and Pearl~

@Hopelessly in Love: Translation? It seems like we have a common interest, just in very different parts of the field.

@Pearl: I actually didn't realize anyone studied America so seriously, I'm interested in what that consists of? And pretty much all you said about pronunciation is right, it must be rough because British English and American English differ in such minute things that it's easy to overlook.

Pearl 10-19-2010 12:21 PM

Well, the focus of my course is American literature which I study in exactly the same way as English literature, except the authors are American so my discussion of context is different.

I have done compulsory modules which look at different aspects of American culture and history through the telescope of literature.
I've produced an essay on the impact of the writings of early Americans like Franklin, Jefferson and Paine... I have written about Dr Strangelove (not literature, but whatever) and what it says about Cold War attitudes...

Right now I'm *supposed* to be writing a psychoanalytic interpretation of Edgar Allen Poe's "The Fall of the House of Usher".
It's too narrow an essay to say anything about America, it's just the psyche of a man who happens to be American.

I also have an essay to write about John Locke and Daniel Defoe (for the English side of the course)...

and then an essay about the American Wilderness. Fuck knows what I'm gonna do for that, I am Behind on the reading.

So yeah, that's what I've got to do by Halloween. :'D

(Plus one graded presentation)

BlackCart29 10-19-2010 03:10 PM

Oh, that's really interesting (what you're studying I mean)

I like the look of your new avi by the way~

and :headdesk: that's a lot of work! (which reminds me that I need to go study myself!)

zazabar 10-19-2010 03:21 PM

I do so well in the sciences because I naturally get everything. And because of that, I don't have to study a lot. I can't do languages cause I'd have to be studying allll the time, >.<;

BlackCart29 10-19-2010 03:31 PM

yeah, see - Languages don't come to me naturally I study each of my languages at least an hour a day ( outside of class and home work...) so it gets a bit daunting!

Pearl 10-19-2010 03:33 PM

I think either you can do literature, or you can't.

If you can't, then no amount of work would help you.

@ BC - my avatar is in honour of my Zombie hangout. I've been bumping it without response for Five Days.

BlackCart29 10-19-2010 04:10 PM

Yeah, with languages you can just study more, I don't see that that would work with literature.

Zombie hangout?

Pearl 10-19-2010 04:35 PM

It is here: http://www.menewsha.com/forum/commun...7-hairpin.html
The last 5 or 6 posts were all me trying in vain to converse with anyone in the forum who might bless me with a post.
