A lot of people say that. I'm not sure why. It may have to do with the fact that the class doesn't have a math name. Math names are scary. All big, and technical. It frightens artistic types like me. lol.
I don't like math, but I'm planning on doing biology or marine biology and most colleges will require calculus at least. I'm not sure, since I'm transferring after I get my AA.
I wouldn't know. At my school I think those would be required for almost any science degree. My friend wants me to go up through Calculus II. I'm baffled by higher level algebra right now, so it seems like a bad idea. lol.
Yeah, I may have to go that high. Although I'm hoping I can get away with just calc I and stats. But I'll be transferring, so anything could happen.
Where you headed?
I go to Metro, in Denver. |
I'm going to go to someplace in Florida since I have a Bright Futures scholarship, which pays for it as long as I'm in Florida. I'm not sure where I'm going for graduate school though.
Hm... I'm not really sure what I want to major in, and that might effect which school I wanted to graduate from. Though, my fiance might want me to stick around Denver. lol.
I know I want to major in Biology or Marine Biology, but that hasn't really narrowed my search yet. I need some way of finding out who's the best in those majors.
I think Florida does well for marine biology, and oceanography. Not super sure though. Not really my deal. I'm doing Theater, German II, history until 1600 something, and intro to photography. :) It sounds like I'll have fun this semester.
What will your classes be? I'm guessing math. |
I have trigonometry, introduction to environmental sustainability, creative writing, effects of disasters on society and field biology.
Environmental stability huh... right then.
I'm also thinking of majoring in environmental science. I'm leaning towards biology though.
Environmental science has a bit of a black eye at the moment. Global warming having no real evidence behind it and all. I would do the Biology. That field hasn't made any blunders in a long time. Since piltdown man as far as I remember.

Popping in and popping out! So busy with training! Love!!<3
Training for what?
Has everyone started school already or something? No one is ever on anymore. |
I'm just getting a degree, any degree, so I can get a graduate job.
English happens to be the only thing I can do well without passing out from brain strain, so I didn't have to think about it at all. I had kinda decided my degree when I was 14. I enjoyed history more, but I got a very surprising and disappointing D in that when I was 16, (I'd always been a B at history) so I took it as a sign and dropped the subject. Of course, History and English are very closely related, and sometimes I could fool myself that I'm doing a history degree sometimes. But I can explore it in a relaxed way, as it's just research on the side, which is nice. Less pressure. I imagine I'll probably retake that D exam in my 30s, to show I can. xD It got under my skin a bit. |
I would honestly go for the history degree if you're not going to specialize. A four year English degree is almost useless. They say there's a lot you can do with it, but I've had so many people tell me it's not worth the paper it's printed on. If you do English, go for a masters at least, or better yet specialize. Something like English literature, or ...English history. If you can find a school that will do it for you. :) You could become an English historian.

*Laughs at Taiyo* Yes that will help it to work better, just like throwing the controller makes you win at video games. :)
Yeah, I used to imagine myself going the English route, but I began to realize how - no offense - but how meaningless an English degree really is. I would've pursued the field merely as proof that I can write, but damn. I wouldn't learn one THING! It'd just be a piece of paper reaffirming what I already know!
...Plus, analyzing literature, while fancy and whatnot, is about as meaningful as donning a beret and sipping a non-dairy latte at your local coffeehouse. So I find myself currently heading towards a double-major in Communication and Sociology, and I'm liking it that way. Insofar I've only experienced the Comm. side of things, since I've yet to officially declare the Sociology bit... But ultimately, it's Comm. that's shown me that Sociology is also the way for me to go. We're focused more on social justice as opposed to the media and all of that jazz, which directly relates back to Sociology. And I've found that I'm passionate in the study of society as a whole, its structure, various cultures, and the injustices that are more prevalent than we care to take notice. I'm also considering getting my Masters in Anthropology, although I'm not sure whether I'd concentrate on something in specific or not. And I'm quite adamant about getting my PhD. as well, although... Again, nothing concrete. |
Anthropology is a passion of mine. I find the fact that half the country is trying to bring about a system which closely resembles the ancient monarchies in so far as oligarchical rule, and no regard for the people, is somewhat historically amusing. Since no one understands the past, and what a cruel place it was, they wish to drag us back there. It's sad and funny at the same time to me. :)
Are you talking about the US? Because, if so, I hope I'm thinking of what you're thinking... :ninja:
I am. :) Why? What do you think of our current sociological and governmental standpoint?

I'm thinking seriously about Biology because I'm also considering doing Neurobiology and that would make it easier if I have a basis. I'm just having difficulty in finding out what are the best schools for that in Florida. |
Ooh! Do Neurobiology. :o I'd have a ton of respect for you for doing that!
I'm not a science-y person by far, although at times I wish I was. But yeah. Not my thing. If I'm able to double-major in Comm./Sociology and still have enough credits to spare, I'll pick up a Social Justice Journalism minor. Just because I can. (I kinda wanna see a Global Warming debate throw-down occur, since in recent years it's become quite laughable to negate the existence of Global Warming... For anyone who's read a healthy amount of science journals as of late, that is. Which, well... I hope. Otherwise you're not well-equipped for negating.) |
