Or slowly and painfully, like with the post office. XD The second there is competition their crummy service is seen for what it is, and goes bye bye.
|
I still prefer the USPS over any of those other services. To me the other ones have been shitty, expensive, and slow.
|
Yeah, I'm a postal brat so I have to go for the USPS :)
|
Besides that, we really don't want the USPS to go away. Like. Seriously. I don't even want to think about the inflation in shipping prices we'd be the victims of if the government wasn't around to regulate that with the USPS.
|
Just imagine how countries where they don't have a national postal service. Just imagine what they have to go through and the prices because of competition. O.o
---------- Spent the evening looking at clothes (blouses and dresses) on ebay that Mike will get for me :) He wants to get me something nice that I picked out. I have concluded that I like the Rockabilly style dress. I even have a dress already that kind of looks like it. ^^ That and empire waist ^^ |
competition actually keeps prices down. See, if your price is higher than your competitor you lose business, and UPS and FEDEX are usually cheaper than the post office for shipping things. I do a lot of shipping, so I have experience. They also tend not to be as late as the post office, who can take over a week to get a package from one state to the next. That's my experience anyway.
|
I've had horrible experiences with all three (USPS, FedEX, and UPS), but my worst experiences have come from FedEX and UPS. From those two I've had packages constantly delivered to the wrong house, and not because of the address on the parcels. UPS brought us someone else's checks, once. I've also had the experience of sitting there two weeks for a package to go from one town to the next within the same state.
As with shipping with them, I don't know. I use USPS for all of that. |
the others must be doing something right. The post office is bankrupt, and has been for a while now. :/ I think if it were better than its competitors more people would use it, and it would be doing better. Their whole system is outdated and inefficient though, and they don;t fix it, because their jobs are secure. The government will keep handing them money no matter what. (referring to the higher ups mind you, not the actual postal workers.)
|
Your siggie made me smile. I was like: "not another one of those," and then I read the whole thing. I get really sick of the "Keep calm and carry on" one. It seems like every preteen girl has to have that hanging in her room somewhere.
I think I'm fonder of USPS than you because I really do live in a tiny ass little town. For anyone to get to a UPS or FedEX it'd take five dollars worth of gas. Right now we'd still be screwed without the USPS, though, because most of the regular letters and such are delivered through them. I say that because I think the only way for the postal workers to change things would be with a strike, and if they left, the whole system would come crashing down. |
@Saro: I was gonna say something since my mom is a postal worker, but, then you mentioned you were referring to the higher ups. Yes, the system is outdated and a lot of the problem is because a lot of companies aren't using mail for their transactions any more. And people aren't relying on the Postal service as much as they used to. Technology is one of th many reasons. That and yes, the higher ups, like always, screw things up.
It is definitely a hard time, considering they are closing post offices in small towns that don't get a lot of business because of many reasons. I know they are moving offices for Western NY from Buffalo to Rochester for a bunch of reasons. And because of the whole economy suckage, the bailouts they give the employees. My mom is thinking of taking the next one they offer because she's getting sick of working at the main plant here in Rochester because of the idiot supervisors. ---------- Even though I live in a bigger town, I'm still fond of the USPS for many reasons, personal and purchases. I dunno if here would be a strike. If anything, it would be because the APWU would suggest it because of crappy contract negotiations or other reasons. Gonna head to bed ^^" I have an early day tomorrow :/ |
I'm not a big "pro change" kinda person when it comes to nostalgic things, and to me the regular post offices are nostalgic. While they're not necessarily part of a gentler time, they're part of a slower time, which is something I appreciate. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate being able to call someone from wherever by using a cell, or being able to shoot an E-mail during a business transaction, but to me it's made it so hard to step back from the world and take a break.
Sorry, that got off topic. ---------- Night. :) |
Nah, you're good. ^^
on a good note, that fast food place I applied to and had an interview with last week, I just had a 2nd interview for them earlier today. ^^ I'll find out on Monday if I get the job ^^" |
Very nice! Did this interview feel easier/better to you?
|
It felt a little better, I was a little calmer, but still nervous since I was interviewed by the GM of the store that is opening. ^^" But, I feel a little bit more confident that I may get the job and I most likely would be doing cash (at least that's what Mike said when I was telling him about it)
|
I think they understand that being nervous is normal. I think this means you'll get it. They probably have a lot of people applying which is why it's taken so long for them to get back to you.
|
Yeah, and from the looks of it, they're still doing open interviews also. I walked in and there was someone new filling out an application in the other side of the room. I could understand if they ended up taking a bit because of all of the interviews. They are still doing interviews after I left, and tomorrow. I'll find out Monday if I get the job. ^^" Mike told me in the car that when he gets me on Monday, we'd celebrate. (He's confident)
Mike and I were talking about it and he thinks I'll get the job and he was giving me tips for when I would be dealing with customers if I were to get the job. |
When a new store opens, they always over-hire because they know a lot of people will (A) just not show up, and (B) not work out, so it takes awhile.
I'm confident in you, too. Break a leg, Ser. :D |
Yeah, they probably will hire most and a lot of them will drop like flies... I hope I'm not one of them ^^"
Thanks ^^ The rest of the day was good. I just wish Mike didn't have to work tomorrow so I could get out of the house and away from the ass my mom is still friends with and has been here ALL WEEK (since last saturday). But, I'll see Mike monday and the ass will be gone FINALLY. -.- working for a restaurant I would avoid as long as he works there. ---------- How was your day Ely? ^^ |
I highly doubt you will be. :)
I hate it when you have to avoid certain restaurants, etc, because some ass in your life works there. Your mom's ways are so strange to me. Well, it was a good day with really bad news. The good day included going to a movie and a nice restaurant, but my mom got a phone call today informing us that another one of my uncles has lung cancer. Apparently it's aggressive and in late stages, and the doctors are saying that it's already spread to his brain and heart. *shakes head* It gets worse, but I don't want to put a downer on your evening. |
Yeah, we won't go to the Denny's out where I live because one of the waitresses is a girl that we had a bad falling out with her and her baby daddy years back over some stupid shit. I don't even know if she works there anymore because we have no idea if they moved.
I will never understand my mom's ways. Mike hates her to the point that atm he does not want her invited to our wedding. He even said that he didn't care about protocol and the whole "she has to be invited". But, that is atm. Who knows how it would be in a few years when we do get married. I'm sorry another uncle is dying. It's ok, I put myself into a weird funk while we were driving me back to the house of torment. I just hope things get better for you soon. You've had too much bad crap happen over the last couple of years. |
I remember that story. I used to not like going into my mother's favorite burger place because a chick from high school that used to treat me like shit and spread rumors about me worked there, but she quit, or got fired. Either way, she's not there anymore, which is good because my mom wouldn't stop going there despite the fact that she worked there. My mum does hate her, though. Just loved her burgers more.
Hopefully it gets better for you. My mother has become a lot more tolerable than she used to be (she used to go off on banshee fits at the drop of a pin for no reason), so I think I can deal with introducing her to SO's now. A few years can change people. I'm still a little worried that she's going to start talking about grandchildren instantly the next time I bring a guy home, though, because she's still like that. >.> She has done that before, too. Thanks. It's nice that I have you and Birdie to come rant to when nobody irl is around or is a plausible person to vent to. This really is a horrible development. It's made easier by the fact that I never really knew the two uncles who have passed and are now suffering with lung cancer, but it doesn't make it less sad. Right now we're worried that this will be the last straw for my grandmother who's been in and out of the hospital--the last uncle who died was her son-in-law while this one is actually her son. |
Erm..uh hello? I count right? :O
I'm not in school right now, mostly for financial reasons. But, I do plan on continuing, hopefully next fall. :3 Sooo hi. :D How is everyone? |
Sure you count! We aren't snobby like that in here. :) The only people we turn away are 14 year old wannabes. >.>
|
@Alessa: Yup, you count. :)
@Ely: Yeah, I hope it gets better for me too. I just need to get out of the house more. I love my mom, I just clash with her a lot. Always have since I am my father's daughter. We're here for you if you need ranting time at any time. :) It's scary to think that it may be for her. I can't even imagine how she must feel knowing her son is as ill as he is. :( |
@Ser: I understand. I'm more like my dad than my mother. Both my mom and dad have some strange hangups, but overall my dad is a more stable person (at least he is now). I can't defend everything he does, but I can defend more of the things he does than I can my mother.
It wouldn't be as bad if she wasn't about to turn 95, and he's only in his sixties. That kind of stuff makes people feel guilty. |
