Léan nodded, before studying the offered soda. "No, no..." he managed, after swallowing a big chunk of pizza. "That is yours...I don't want to take it from you. Water is fine for me..."
He didn't want to feel like too much of a mooch. He already had no way to help her pay for the meal... |
"I don't mind." Alice smiled. "They have free refills." She took another bite of pizza as she looked around the room. Girls were still eyeing up Lean and giving her dirty stares. "You know, you seem to be quite a steal." her face flushed. "I feel lucky, I've never been on a date with someone as good looking at you, i seem to be making the other girls jealous." She looked down her cheeks a bright red.
Léan, oblivious to the stares he was getting from various girls around the area, simply arched an eyebrow. "...All right?" he replied, awkwardly. "No, keep your soda--really...I'm fine." He wasn't sure he wanted to try so many new things at once, of course...too much was too much.
"Sorry," She said sheepishly, suddenly feeling stupid for trying to compliment him. She took her soda back and sipped it a few times before she grabbed another slice of the pizza. Eating it slowly, her face was red with embarrassment.
Léan blinked, now puzzled by her embarrassment. "...I must have said something strange," he commented, scratching his head slightly. He also grabbed a second slice of pizza. This would probably be his last slice.
Alice looked up. "No you're fine. It was my fault." She tried to explain. "Anyways, once we are done, i was thinking of taking you to the market. Is that still alright with you?" She asked as she finished her slice and called for the check.
Léan tilted his head. "...I suppose so, as long as nothing bad happens," he replied, smoothly. He seemed to accept her explanation, and didn't question anything. He quickly finished up his slice and then gulped down the rest of his water. He seemed excited about going through the market...there was more to learn about the human world.
Alice finished off her soda and got to her feet. "Okay, lets get going then." She got up and got behind Lean once more. She pushed him up to the front counter and paid for their meal with some cash and then pushed him back out onto the boardwalk. She leaned down and pointed ahead. "See up there? all the stands along both side of the boardwalk, thats the market. That's where i found all those charms i got you. Maybe we can find some more." She gave him a smile and kept pushing him.
Léan was still a little frazzled at being pushed along, but he accepted it willingly. "...All right. I do see it...I suppose we'll have to search around and see." He was looking forward to sightseeing and not much more, though. He didn't want her to waste money on him.
Alice pushed him into the market, there were alot more people there, but most didn't pay them attention. She pushed him slowly past all the stands, waiting for him to point out something he liked and she would stop. She was happy she was getting to spend time with him, she just hoped he was having fun too.
Léan didn't point out much. He just wanted to keep going and keep sightseeing. He was indeed having a good time, especially when they started passing fish markets. He sniffed the air instinctively, and thankfully, he was subtle about his sniffing.
After a while they reached the end of the market. "Well thats about it i guess." She squatted down on her toes next to the wheelchair and looked up at Lean. "So what would you like to do now?" She asked as she lost her balance and fell over. getting up and rubbing her backside, Alice laughed nervously, her face red. "Oops."
Léan chuckled, upon seeing her fall. His tail flicked back and forth pleasantly. "...Well...what else is there to do on land?" he asked, curiously. This was his first time on land, after all. He didn't really know what there was to do.
Alice smiled hearing him chuckle at her. "Well, there is the movies. Or dancing, but i feel like that ones out." She put a finger to her lip as she thought. "Then there is hanging out, i mean, my little brother brought his video games. Or we could just go for a walk." As she said them all out loud she realized how much she didn't really do. Alice felt a little bad that she didn't have any better ideas.
Léan blinked, quite a few of those things seeming a little strange to him. "...Well...why don't we try the ones I can do in my current handicapped state in order, as you said them? We can do one or two per day, and the leave the others for another day..."
Alice smiled. The way he spoke made her think he was having fun. And he was hoping to come back again. "Okay, then movie it is." She started pushing his chair when a thought occurred. "Have you ever seen a movie? What kind of genres do you like?"
Léan fixed her with an unsure sort of stare. "...I don't understand what you mean by 'movie,'" he said, finally. Of course...there was no such thing as electricity under the water. Movies were nonexistent.
"Fair enough," She thought for a moment. "Well I guess it is kind of like a book. Only instead of reading words, you watch actual people act things out. Oh! It's like a play or performance. Have you ever seen something like that?" She asked. She felt like she was talking in circles.
"Plays, I have seen," Léan admitted, tail flicking back and forth. Plays were one of the main forms of entertainment in societies of merpeople. Mind you, he didn't often venture anywhere near cities or towns...but when he did, he often enjoyed watching one or more of the plays offered at the local theater.
"Okay cool! Well you see a movie is like a play, only someone recorded it...kind of like what you did for me earlier under water with my camera." She smiled at him. "Now the question is what kinds do you like? Action, comedy, romance... anything." She asked happily as she continued to pushed him down the board walk.
"Anything," Léan replied, pointedly. "I don't care what we see...no matter what it is, it will be somewhat interesting to me, seeing as I don't know how your 'movies' really work..."
"Okay well i guess we can just pick something once we get there." She smiled as she pushed him down onto the side walk and in the direction of the theater. It wasn't long until they got there. Alice looked up at the list of movies and settled on an adventure movie. Lean seemed to like exploring so it seemed like something he would like. Giving him a better glimpse of the human world.
After buying the tickets, Alice pushed him down the hall and into their theater. She parked his wheelchair in the handicapped spot and took the chair next to him. "How's your tail doing?" she asked before anything came up on to the screen. |
"The blanket is itchy. But other than that...I'm fine." Léan seemed a bit overwhelmed by the movie theater and the close proximity to the other humans sitting around them. It would take getting used to, and he wouldn't be comfortable for the first few parts of the movie.
He would get over it, though. He jumped a little when the lights started to dim, after everyone had piled into the theater, and a loud ad started to play on the big screen before them. |
Alice put her hand on his arm when she saw him jump. "It's okay." She whispered. "Just a commercial, people advertising other movies coming out." She gave him a smile. "Don't worry though, none of it is going to jump off the screen, even though it may seem like it." She didn't want to, but she pulled her hand back and put it on the arm rest. "If this get's to be too much, just let me know and we can leave okay?" Alice smiled, even in the dark, Lean's blue eyes seemed to sparkle.
Léan settled down, slowly. He didn't seem to want to settle down all that much...but he would, if it meant he would enjoy the movie more. He jumped just twice more due to the loudness of the commercials...and that was it. After that, he was totally relaxed, even as the opening credits for the movie began to roll.
