Damien stayed there, getting comfortable and watching the movie. He was warm and content and he had Rose there. So sue him if he wasn't giving his full attention to the movie.
Admittedly, Rose wasn't paying complete attention to the movie, either. She kept glancing at Damien, although she didn't move from her spot next to him.
Damien moved his arm so he could comb his fingers through her hair, just relaxing, his eyes half-closed. He'd go make food when he needed to, but for now, this was much more fun.
When he started combing his fingers through her hair Rose settled her head on his shoulder. She could hear him purring faintly, but she didn't comment. It didn't bother her at all. Every so often, she would glance at the movie, but she'd pretty much stopped paying attention to it.
Damien was reluctant to get up when it was finally about time for him to cook. He didn't quite want to move, and kept combing his fingers through her hair, brushing against her scalp.
"You hungry yet, babe?" he asked quietly, glancing down at her. |
Rose didn't want to move, either. She was really very comfortable next to him. When she thought about it, though, she came to the conclusion that dinner would probably be a good thing.
"A little," she said after a moment. She didn't move, though. |
"I'll start cooking once the movie's over, then."
That decided, he shifted a bit to get more comfortable and stayed there, still running his fingers through her hair. |
"Sounds like a plan to me," Rose replied. She moved over slightly when he did and made herself comfortable again.
Damien half-watched the rest of the movie until it was over, and then, reluctantly, he got up to start cooking. It shouldn't take that long, but it meant he had to move. Which he objected to.
"Hope you don't mind having steak tonight," he said as he headed back into the kitchen. |
"I don't mind," Rose replied. She reluctantly let him up from the couch. She didn't want to have to get up, and she didn't want him to have to get up. She followed him into the kitchen.
"It'll be a couple minutes," he said, rather apologetically. "And I have to get out the bread." He turned on the stove, putting a skillet down and waiting for it to get plenty hot before putting the meat down, searing it on all sides.
"I don't mind waiting," Rose replied as she pulled a chair from the table and sat down. "I can't cook, but I like watching other people cook."
Damien chuckled and nodded, starting to cook and humming under his breath. He shot her a brief grin, turning to slice the bread while the steak cooked through.
Rose watched as he cooked.
"You know, my parents always told me I had better find someone who could cook," she said. She grinned, teasingly. "I'm lucky I did." |
Damien laughed quietly and flipped the steak over, watching for a few moments before going back to the bread.
"Well, I'm no high-priced chef," he said with a little grin. "But I guess I'm good enough to keep us fed. Although you'll be on your own for three nights every month." |
Rose grinned.
"I think I can handle that," she replied. |
Damien chuckled but didn't say anything else until dinner was ready, setting everything out and motioning for her to go ahead.
"What would you like to drink?" |
Rose was about to just say that water was fine, but she stopped.
"What do you have?" she asked. |
"Water, milk, soda, wine, some Scotch." Damien shrugged. "You can have whatever you want."
"Soda's fine with me," Rose replied. She didn't drink alcohol at all, so she ignored those options.
Damien nodded and went over to the fridge briefly. "Coke, Sprite, or root beer?" He glanced at her around the door, having already grabbed a root beer for himself.
"Coke," Rose replied. She wrinkled her nose when he mentioned root beer. She'd never liked the stuff.
Damien chuckled when he noticed her expression and handed her a Coke and a glass. "Do you want ice, or no?" He popped his can and took a sip before setting it down to go take the steak off the heat.
"I'm alright without ice," Rose replied as she set the soda and the glass on the table. Then she moved her chair back over to where it was in front of the table. "It's too bad Sera said she had to go in tomorrow... I was going to tell her to call Taylor or something, since she has the house to herself."
Damien snickered. "Well, she could get up. Taylor's a lazy guy when he doesn't have to get up in the morning, but he'd make sure she got there on time."
