Léan grunted slightly, his eyes still closed. "Just go back to sleep. As if I would allow a bad dream to harm you..." he reasoned, simply. "Relax. Nothing bad is going to happen. So just lay back and relax..."
He blushed a little at Lean words then smiled. "I'll try good night once more." He smiled a little know that Lean was there so even if he never could see home again there was some one who seem to care and wanted to watch over him. He stuffed the fuff back in to his ears and tried to sleep once more.
Léan fell back asleep with ease. He was still really tired, worn out from all they had done during the day. He didn't even sing when he slept--he was far too deeply asleep.
Soon morning came and light slipped in through some of the holes near the door in to the house. Adam had slept in more then useally but when he woke he toss more wood on to the fire. He just laid in his bed stareing up at the ceiling feeling the warmth of the fire.
Léan just slept. He was worn out, and not feeling very well. So he barely even stirred, also enjoying the warmth of the fire. He looked so peaceful when he slept...all worry was gone, etched out of his features.
Adam was used to Lean being up almost before him he looked over to the sleeping merman. He hoped he was not sick but he would not worry about that now and let him sleep for now. Adam changed his leaf shorts for his swiming short. He decide he would hunt for food to feed Lean when he wakes up. Adam made his bed then left the house and tied the door back close. He used a broken rock that had a edge on it to sharper a long stick in to a spear.
Then looked to the water. He wonder if he could actaully fish this way. He waited in to the water about hip high and let the fish swim around him. Adam try a lot to stab the fish but he was failing. But hours later he caught a total of 6 fish this way. He headed back to the tent and clean out 3 of he fish for him self the other three he would leave for Lean to rip them apart. |
When Léan finally woke, it seemed that he really wasn't feeling all that well. He didn't open his eyes or even move from where he was curled up, even though he smelled fish nearby. He was hungry, but his weariness and his not feeling too well was more than his hunger...
Adam looked over to Lean when he woke up and moved closer to him with the food. "You feeling alright?" He moved his hand to Lean head to check for a fever or some thing. Not know how to actaully tell if a merman had a fever or not. He had his own fish cooking near the fire.
"I'm fine...just feeling a bit off..." Léan replied, his eyes still closed. He had a feeling that he wasn't going to feel very well for the rest of the day. The only thing he was aware of was his grating hunger.
"You should eat a little I hope you can eat the fish I caught those it takes all three of them to equal one of the big fish you bring back. But still I hope this will help you recover a little." Adam sighed he wanted to help Lean but didn't know what to do. "Well You can rest after you eat I know food help humans get over illness that and rest. Those I doubt chiken noodle soup would work for you." He smiled trying to make a joke.
"Chicken what?" Léan half-understood what he meant. He knew that chickens were some sort of livestock that humans raised, but not much more than that. So he really didn't know what he was referring to...
"Food should help me...I know..." he nabbed one of the offered fish and began to nibble on it, eagerly. |
He turn his fish to cook the other side as he talk to lean and sat near him. "chicken noodle soup. Chicken is an animal some time they call tuna the chicken of the sea." He laughed. "Ok what the soup is chicken mix with noodles. Noodles are type of gain grow on land then turn in a shape that looks weird then you add in some water and mix and veggies to make it turn in to a soup." He laughed. "That wasn't a funny of joke as I would have liked it to be." Those he was glad Lean was eatting now.
"Oh..." Léan scowled--now he felt all kinds of stupid. "I see...I understand, now. It surprises me just how little I know about your world. Many terms are alien to me..."
He managed to eat one of the fish by this point, and grabbed at one of the remaining two to eat, now. |
"Well I don't know much about your so we are even." He smiled. "Actaully I think you know more about mine then a human could ever know about yours." He smiled. "But I could teach you about humans it would be easy." He smiled wanting to be helpful to Lean. Adam was glad Lean was working on fish number two this was a good sign. Adam removed one of his cooked fish and started to eat it. He blow on it not to burn his mouth and nibbled on it.
Léan shrugged slightly, finishing up the second fish. "We could share facts, if you'd like...in my current state, I wouldn't like to do a lot of moving around..." he reminded him, sheepishly. "I think I'll save that third fish for after our discussion..."
Adam smiled looking to Lean. "Are you sure you can held it. You said you were not feeling well so I thought after you ate you would go to sleep to get better." He wanted Lean to get well soon. "What type of meds do you take when you get sick?"
"Different medical potions, made from the medicinal parts of fish and plants. Sometimes land plants that grow close to the sea..." Léan replied, offhandedly. "And I'm willing to talk...I may not feel well, but I don't feel sleep coming on just yet..."
"Ok then. Well let me know I don't want to keep you up if you do get tired." He fished he first first then started on to the 2nd one. "Oh I see so you kind of do what we do expect more natrual." He smiled. "How do you tell if you have a fever? I heard some it there tail those with humans its our forehead. That why I plac emy hand there."
"Our body temperatures are much lower than yours are..." To demonstrate his point, Léan reached his hand out to touch Adam's. His skin was cool, clammy...much colder than Adam's was. It was naturally like this. "So...if we feel a little warmer than usual anywhere at all...it usually spells out trouble."
Adam felt his hand touch him. "That cold." He laughed a little, then paused. "Oh.... What happend if it dose how do you lower it?" He wonder. "I want to know just incass you do get sick sick instead of under the weather. I want to know so I can take care of you." He smiled.
Léan seemed puzzled by how much Adam cared...but didn't question him. "I should recover on my own...there isn't much a human can do to help me, medicine-wise, especially out on an island like this," he revealed, stretching slightly. "...We need to teach you some more, get you ready to swim back to the nearest island on your own..."
"Yes but you need to get well before we do that. Those really... I can't do much..." He sighed. "I'll just stay by your side expect when i leave it to go hunting for food for us." He smiled over to Lean. "Those I did have an Idea on how to to get me to shore. Well I made this house didn't I why not build a raft and just kick that why I can float and rest at the same time. So I can get far out. You could help me pull it as far as you can go using the kelp rope so your out of sight then when we are to close for your comfort you could hang back. This was if some thing go work I have some thing to hung on to if your not going to be there."
"The idea of the raft would work..." Léan closed his eyes, seeming somewhat tired but unwilling to go to sleep just yet. "Whenever you're ready to leave...I will take you out towards the closest populated island..."
He showed no signs of negative emotion in his voice...it wasn't clear if he would miss Adam or not. He had promised to try and visit him at home...but was it really going to be possible for him? |
"Well you need to get better Lean before we even try this. I want to make sure your well ok before I even try to go home." Adam did wonder if Lean would even miss him he know he would miss Lean a lot. He almost wanted to keep putting off leaving if it meant seeing Lean for a little longer.
Léan took note of the slightly saddened look on Adam's face. He sat up a bit more, finally reaching over and grabbing the third fish. "...I'm fine, just feeling a bit off. You don't want to leave, for some reason...why?" he asked, point-blank. He was curious...if he were Adam, he would want to get home as quickly as possible.
