Drivers Test
I live in New York State and in this state when we take the drivers test we have to do the whole test with another individual beside us watching our every move. The test is only a few minutes, however one false move (hitting the damn curb....) will ultimately fail you. Thankfully I was able to pass my wonderful test yesterday. Go me. :3 Sadly though I had taken it twice prior. You know the saying, the first time you fail the test it's because the dude was a douche bag? Well I fully believe this is justified. In my state you are allowed one person to sit behind you in the vehicle so long as they don't speak. My father requested this, and the first thing my instructor stated before even saying hello to me was "I can tell you what you can do, get out of the god damn care sir". Mm Throughout the entire time he was informing me that I not only have killed myself, but my two children and whoever I was married too. Awesome. By the end of the test I was such a wreck. Then he proceeded to inform me that I was a danger to society and never to attempt again before leaving. I cried the entire way home. The second time was nice. Nothing wrong at all until I began my return, to upon pulling into the test center I hit the curb taking a right. xD I started laughing because it's definitely something I'm not surprised I did. Just kinda screams "SAETON!"

Ah, mine... I live in Portugal, and the test goes like this:
You go to the road with 3 people: the examiner, your instructor, and the student that'll take the test after. I went first, which meant that I'd take us somewhere, with some parking on the way, and then the other guy would take us back. The examiner was nice enough... I messed up a few times, but ended up passing, much to my instructor's surprise (the times I messed up were a bit big @[email protected] Especially on parallel parking. Eff that stuff). The trip back was quite a relief... Even if a little begrudgingly, since the other guy did almost perfect. >_> |
Mine was so easy. I passed the first time I took it. (The written test I failed the first time, passed the second time. Driving test, I passed the first time.) My sister was jealous. I live in Mississippi. She lives in Canada.
My driving test, I had to drive my sister's car, which I'd only driven once before that day, with a deputy in the car with me. I had to drive around the block. When we first got in the car, I informed him that that day had been my first time driving in the city, which was true. So, I think I kind of scared him. He didn't make me drive as far as the girl before me said they had gone during her test. The deputy was fairly nice, I suppose. He didn't really say much of anything. If I had to take the same driving test over again or even one in the same area, I'm sure I'd pass again. However, they moved our DMV, and I've never driven in the city it's in now, so I'm not sure. I'm fairly confident in my driving abilities now, though, so I do think I'd pass. I did not have to do any parking in my driving test, which I know is really weird. Pretty much everyone I've talked to had to park when they took their test. We don't have much parallel parking here, though. I've never parallel parked. My twin, the sister in Canada, had to do all kinds of parking when she took her test. That's one of the main reasons she was jealous. |
Wow, there's one of the only reasons to stop me from moving to New York where all my dad's family lives.
I'm 17 and the only major reason I haven't taken my driving test is simple: Fear. There's always that fear of wrecking and hurting someone for me. I'm so nervous about the whole thing. I never use to be nervous. Heck, I use to be rather... confident in my driving abilites (though frankily, they were horrid). However, over time I gained a fear of driving. Why, I'm not to sure. It could have been my mother always yelling at me for making a wrong turn or the lack of motivation or the fact I witnessed a car wreck a month prior to being able to take my test. The answer is unclear. I plan on taking the test as soon as possible. However, this may be impossible if my fear doesn't lessen and if I don't practice. I still have to get my permit again since it expired. Oh well, I guess I should either take it now or wait until the spring. If I learn how to drive again through all the ice and snow, I may just add to my fear. |
New York is strict! In Missouri, you only have to get a 75% to pass. I missed a few minor things, and I passed with a 93. There was one tester in the car with me, and he was pretty laid-back.
I wish the passing standards were more strict here. There's no excuse not to do well on the practical exam. I can understand not doing the written test well (there's a bunch of not-practical questions on it... like the weight limit of a 16-wheeler, wtf?), but if you've had a fair amount of practice, it's pretty easy to pass. And if you're having trouble passing it, then you need more practice  Parallel parking during a test is about as easy as it gets. I learned how to do it about an hour before I took the actual exam. xD And I passed that part, so yeah. Of course, I had to "re-learn" once I moved into a town with a lot of street parking, but really, it's not that difficult. It can be frustrating, but it's not hard. I definitely think I could pass the practical exam again. I'd probably fail the written exam though. |
Ugh. I still have to do the driving test. I'm going to be 18 in about a week, and I didn't get my learner's permit. I don't know what I'm going to do, because I need to practice driving but I legally can't because I don't have a permit. But, you can't get your permit once you're over 18 because you can just take your test and get your lisense. It's quite a Catch 22 situation.
Oh, I'm form Florida. You can get your permit at 15. I just... didn't for some reason. |
My driver's test was really easy on the time I passed. Luckily, on the day of my appointment, there was construction going on, so there was a lot of traffic. So the entire time we were going really slowly and it was pretty much impossible for me to screw up anything.
The first time I took my test, however, I failed, namely because I cut someone off when we were turning back into the parking lot for the DMV. I didn't realize that the other lane had the right of way, and yeah, I failed for a real reason. The person sitting next to me was very nice, and it was a legitimate failure. I actually do really well with parallel parking... it's pull in parking that I'm horrible at. I always misjudge the turn and end up having to back up and re-pull in. Parallel parking I can usually do in one swing xD |
Honestly my driving test was a joke- and I think most tests are too short and too easy.
I took the test when I was 17 and passed the first time. We got in the car, drove to the back of the DMV where i had to pull up between a cone and the curb, make a U turn, drive between a line of cones and the curb, back up the line I had just driven. Then I drove back to the front of the DMV where I made a right (at a traffic light) out of the parking to, then a right back into the parking lot where I had to park in a space in front of the DMV. Honestly that test did not show in any way shape or form that I am capable of handling myself on the road - I read about tests that are longer and involve actually driving somewhere and I think we need something more like that. People have this idea that they have a right to drive - which is just not true- too many stupid incompetent people get drivers licenses and cause accidents and other major problems and perhaps a better driving test would of weeded them out. (says the grumpy old lady) |
I was 20 when I got my license, and 17 before I even got my permit. v_v My reasoning was that, since I don't have a car, why get a license? Buuuuut, it's been useful, even *still* being carless.
I passed both my written & driving tests on the first try. I got the lowest score possible to still pass on the written, though; I didn't read the motorcycle section of the driving manual, because I didn't think it'd be important. Oops. I think I got really lucky on the examiner I got. The two people who went before me got an angry old dude and wound up failing. I got a super-nice lady who I'd been joking with all day, anyways, so I think that had a lot to do with it. Haha. I was cracking jokes throughout the whole thing, and telling her about my sister who failed three times (and apparently so badly that they made her wait six months before she was allowed to take it again after the first time). No parallel parking for me, even though I'd spent the whole day before practicing; they apparently did away with that sometime early last year. All I had to do was drive through a neighborhood and show her I could maintain the speed limit and park uphill. I was a little disappointed I couldn't show off my mad three-point-turn skills, but, hey, I passed, and that's really all that matters! |
