Sunday Roast & The Cloaked Schemer
Zexion sat in the castle's library, scanning the contents of a random book he'd grabbed off the shelf. None of the words seemed to register in his brain, for whatever reason. He sighed and figured it was time to take a break from reading. He shut the book and headed from the room.
He walked slowly through the halls, not wanting to draw any attention to himself. He stopped infront of a statue of one of his great-great grandfather. After checking that noone was around, he slipped behind it and headed down a secret passage that'd he'd discovered when he was younger. The only reason he was being so sneaky was because he wasn't technically supposed to be outside the castle without supervision, in case something were to happen to him. He headed down the dark corridor for about 10 minutes until it opened up to a spot well away from the castle. He smiled ever-so-lightly as the sunlight hit his face. Now for a few hours of freedom. |
The look on Axels face was a rare one - complete concentration. Stood in a small clearing in the middle of the woods wearing nothing but a pair of loose pants, the fiery red head appeared to be juggling balls of fire. Upon closer inspection, it was possible to see the batons he was throwing in the air, each end alight in flame. Though each was skilfully tossed into the air and just as skilfully caught.
The routine being practised was a new one, hence the look of concentration. All of his other routines he could perform without having to look at what he was doing or even count himself in. It all came as second nature to him now. But it was not only fire Axel could juggle, oh no, knives, toys and just about anything else he could get his hands on. Eventually, the routine came to an end and the flames were extinguished in a small, wooden pale of water he'd brought along with him. Now that he'd gotten the routine fleshed out, he could start adding various tricks and other 'daredevil' moves that would have the crowds he attracted gasp in both fear and awe. Street performers were not difficult to come by, but Axel was the only one who performed with fire and other dangerous materials and substances. |
Zexion had been enjoyed his calming walk through the woods. At least he was, until he caught sight of flashes of flames in a clearing up ahead. He hurried forward quickly to put it out, only to pause on the outskirts of said clearing. Of course, who would he see, but Axel. He would have said something, if there wasn't such a look of concentration on his face. So, instead, he leaned against a nearby tree to wait until he was done.
Once the routine was complete, Zexion clapped his hands loudly to announce his presence. "Good job." he said, staying where he was, leaning against the tree. He hoped very briefly he didnt' startle Axel too much with the sudden noise. After all, the woods were relatively quiet besides the occasional animal sound. |
Axel sat down beside the bucket and watched the flames of his small camp fire dance. Fire was truly an amazing element, it was a shame so many took it for granted. Ah well, they were all only human afterall.
Having heard the clapping, the male blinked and turned his emerald gaze from the fire and to the one leaning against the tree. Zexion. "About time you turned up." He said with a grin. "How long you been stood there?" |
Zexion smirked lightly as he pushed himself off the tree. Good thing he didn't startle Axel to much. He shrugged lightly and headed over to him. "Just long enough to see your little fire act." he said. "It was good."
He stood on the opposite side of the campfire from Axel. Sure, he would have sat down. But he couldn't risk getting his clothes dirty or someone's going to figure out that he'd been leaving the castle. That would just tighten his supervision more than it already was. |
Stretching his long legs out in front of him, Axel leant back and looked up to Zexion, watching him across the fire. "Glad you thought so, its not finished yet though. Gotta add bits and pieces to make it more spectacular." He'd a vague idea of what he wanted to add, but was unsure of where to include them.
"So where have you been that was more important than coming to see me?" The red head asked with a play pout. |
"Can't wait to see it when it's finished." he said. He glanced around the little coampsite for a few more seconds before sighing lightly. He wasn't really in the mood to stand here for an unknown amount of time. So, he sat down carefully on the ground.
A light smirk formed on Zexion's face. He tapped his head thoughtfully. "Well.. I could think of a few things..." he said, his voice filled with teasing as it trailed off. "One of them include studying in a dark library." |
"You'll be the first to see it." Axel said, rolling onto his stomach and propping his chin up with the palms of his hands. Quietly he observed the male as he finally sat down. "You'd rather study in a dark library than hang out with me? I'm hurt." Again the fiery red head play pouted and poked his tongue out at Zexion. "I'm not that boring, am I?"

Zexion looked at Axel for a few seconds, studying him. His curious expression changed to one of seriousness, but still held a hint of teasing. "Well... You know how I like libraries. Plus this one was dark and had no air circulation... So... Compared to that... Yes. You're very boring." His seriousness couldn't hold for long and a very light smile showed on his face. He knew that Axel knew he'd rather hang with him then get stuck in a room where he's constantly supervised.

Axel knew that Zexion was only playing with him and in turn, he was sure the other would know he was only playing with him. The red head was unable to be serious for more than a couple of seconds anyway. "Oh.. your right, compared to dark, airless library I do sound boring." He said, letting out an overly dramatic sigh.

It was getting harder and harder for Zexion to keep a straight face. He took a deep breath to maintain the serious mood he was trying to have. "You're right. Maybe I should just go back to the wonderful, exciting library. You're just boring me so much." he said, pretending like he was getting ready to stand.

Axel couldn't help himself anymore, he let out a soft laugh and shook his head at his friends words. "Nah, you don't need to do that, I'll start behaving now, promise." If only to stop Zexion leaving him for that bland library again. Wasn't every day they could hang out like this anymore, so they had to make the most of it.

Zexion finally cracked and smiled lightly across the fire at Axel. "Okay. As long as you behave yourself, I guess I could stay." he said, resettling himself on the ground. It wasn't very often that he really showed any emotions and it took a lot to even bring a smile to his face. But with Axel, because they've been friends for such a long time, it was easy.
He rested his elbow on his knee and laid his head in his hand. "So. What's the plan for today?" he asked. |
"You do know who your talking to, right? Asking me to behave is like asking me to stop breathing." Axel said, cocking his head to the side as he watched the camp fire dance before his eyes. Fire was so.. mesmerizing. "I don't know, I didn't have anything in particular in mind. Did you?"

Axel did have a point. Why did Zexion expect him to behave any different? He shrugged lightly and let his gaze rest on the flames for a moment. "No. Not really." he said. He was just glad to be out of the palace that he'd actually be fine with doing absolutely nothing. Just as long as he was free from supervision.

Well they could always go into town, but Axel came out here to get away from people and he was pretty sure Zexion would end up being escorted back indoors. "Well, I fancy a swim in the lake. Care to join me?" Not waiting for an answer, the red head was on his feet and walking quickly towards the large, crystal clear lake not more than several feet away from him.

Zexion sat there for a few seconds. Swimming? That didn't sound like a too good idea... He didn't really know how to swim, but he had kept it well hidden throughout his life. He sighed and stood up. "Alright. Let's go." he said, following after the redhead. He didn't have to get in the water, right? He would be content just sitting by the lake.

Axel began to shed his clothing as he approached the lake, leaving only his under garments on, the red head jumped into the lake and produced a large splash. When he resurfaced he was wearing his usual grin and looked to Zexion. "You coming in?"

Zexion watched Axel jump in the lake with an amused look on his face. He sat on the ground the edge of the lake. He shook his head. "No. I don't think so... Maybe next time." he said, just loud enough for Axel to be able to hear him.

"Awh, come on. There's no one else around and if you put your clothes away from the edge of the lake they won't get wet so no one will know." Axel said, swimming towards the bank so he was able to lean against it to watch the other male.

Zexion shook his head again. He really didn't want to get in the water. But he also didn't want Axel to think he didn't want to be here with him. And he could swim... It was just harder for him. Plus, he could just stay where his feet were touching the bottom. "... Alright. That's fine then..." he said, standing up. He stripped down to his underwear and walked cautiously into the water.

Unsure of just how strong a swimmer Zexion was, Axel didn't go too far from him once he'd gotten into the water. Last thing he wanted was for him to drown.. he'd be a wanted man if they found out just where Zexion went when he snuck out.

Zexion relaxed slightly after a while. In all honesty, to him, the water actually felt kinda of good. The mixture of the cool water and hot sun made for a good combination. "This is nice." he said, smiling ever-so-slightly. "It was a great idea Axel." Now, as long as he doesn't get too far from the shore, he shouldn't drown. Then, everything would be good. "But I can't stay for much longer. People will start wondering where I am."

Floating idly on his back, Axel closed his eyes and enjoyed the warmth the sun was giving them. "Hm?" Hearing the other speak, he opened his eyes and tilted his head back so he could see him. "Yeah, yeah, I know they will. I need to be off soon too, one last performance and then I can eat." He said with a grin.

Zexion had remained where the water barely went past his waist. He wasn't going to risk going any further into the water. He raised an eyebrow lightly when he heard Axel's comment. "You haven't eaten yet?" he asked, amused. He took a few steps towards the edge of the lake, ready to get out.
