Can't Eat...

I've been feeling like this for awhile but food has been disgusting to me lately... Whenever I think about food it grosses me out, but I'll get freakish hunger pangs if I don't eat SOMETHING. -_- Sometimes I wish I didn't have to eat but still have the option to. <_<; I used to be able to eat a ton of food at a time and now it seems like a chore to ingest anything. Too bad I can't just snap my fingers and have food in my belly. :P That seems much easier than chewing it... The weird thing is... I use cannabis but the only thing it does is make me not feel the hunger... strangly... IDK WHAT'S UP!?

P.S. I've lost 20lbs in the last couple months just from this... *worried face*

Hehe, I managed to eat a grilled cheese... ^_^

some of my medication suppresses hunger and makes me queasy as a side-effect, so i get this feeling quite often, and added to the pain i feel often it means i don't eat terribly often or terribly much.

however, i've found that smelling peppermint or spearmint oil and having peppermint or spearmint tea helps a bit, and eating healthy things (i really only eat vegetables when i'm feeling ill) can really help.
it's still not ideal, but it makes things a lot easier.

Tristal 11-23-2010 05:20 AM

Yea I agree with the mint. I drink the sleepytime extra from celestial and it doesn't actually make me sleep but it calms my nerves. I have fibromyalgia and when I'm sore and tender it helps a lot to calm it down. But the sleepytime has spearmint and valerian. I don't know if you know what it is but valerian is a natural sleep aid, or in smaller doses a relaxant. I've had a lot of good experiences with valerian, but my body just may like it better than some peoples too... *shrugs* whatever.. hehe

Miss Eevee 11-23-2010 06:00 AM

oh wow, what a coincidence!
i have fibro + juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, as well as a couple of other minor problems. (:

and i adore valerian - i take it in pill form and drink the tea to help me sleep.

Hehe. Have you tried marijuana? I got my medical marijuana card a year after I was diagnosed... which it took a year to diagnose before that so it was sucky... They had me on so much crap. Vicodin and Percocet are so harsh on my tummy especially having an eating problem makes it a lot worse. Narcotics did nothings except make my tummy hurt anyways. It didn't make me stop hurting and I was in so much pain all the time that I didn't feel any effects of the medication. I didn't get that high drowsy feeling from the narcotics or anything it was horrible. But my mom actually introduced me to marijuana because she couldn't stand to see me in so much pain and the doctors weren't helping with all the medication. So I tried it and it helped so I got my medical card. It helps me do a lot of household chores I can't do a lot of the time.... laundry sucks cause it's downstairs... :/

Yeah, the peppermint tea really works. I can't have any salt, because it causes an imbalance in my brain and triggers bipolar disorder, so I can only eat sweet things and most of the time I'm not full, so I have to either eat a whole bunch of sweets or drink tea...and no, i don't get fat, so people mistake me for being anorexic because i'm so skinny D:

And once, I my normal doctor was out so there was another one and he gave me a perscription for something to help anorexics and I was like, "Didn't you read my forms?!? I'm NOT anorexic! I just can't eat salt! Which makes me skinny, because I'm not eating meat!"

Miss Eevee 11-23-2010 06:28 AM

i've tried marijuana, but i have to ingest it rather than smoking, since smoke plays havoc with my voice/throat.
it's never worked for me, but i know it does for some people with similar conditions.

yeah, i know what you mean - i've been living in an upstairs flat this year and it's been pretty hellish some of the time. i get stuck inside for up to a week at a time because i simply can't make it downstairs or turn the key in the lock. >w<

mine is mainly controlled with paradex, codeine, DMARDs (for the arthritis) & losec, which helps keep the stomach lining in tact, since all the painkillers try to tear it to shreds.
it used to be controlled by steroids, but i found the side effects much worse than the pain and took myself off them.

I have lupus and get sick a lot so eating sometimes is hard for me as well. I also have stomach ulcers and polycystic ovarian syndrome that I take pain meds for until I can get surgery for it. No health insurance and no money does not make things easy. It's annoying because I love food and I really want to eat like I used to, which was all the time, but I can't because it makes me either throw up or want to throw up due to illness and medications.

Have you ever tried vaporizing? It's a lot nicer than smoking. It just heats up the marijuana in a little disk and the thc get activated and i personally put it in a little balloon thing to inhale it but there are ones that only work when you suck through a tube. Anyway, vaporizing doesn't actually burn the marijuana, you're just inhaling air that has activated thc from being filtered through a disk with marijuana in it... i think it's pretty cool... ^_^

Miss Eevee 11-23-2010 07:10 AM

i might try that at some point - it would be healthier than my brownies! >w<

it really is just the smoke that gets to me - i've never smoked anything in my life, and if i try i just end up feeling terrible. 8D;;

Tristal 11-24-2010 12:33 AM

Yea, vaporizing still gets to your lungs because it's a foreign inhalent, but it's a lot easier than smoking. I actually read about inhaling marijuana and it's used for asthma and emphysima because it dialates the lungs and alows for oxygen to be inhaled. I figure that's probably a good reason I get light headed sometimes when I walk around after because I have asthma and i've just recently quit smoking so maybe my brain is just getting a lot of oxygen it's not used to at once? lol whatever theories... It's fun to think technical about health topics.

I've always been interested in health and before I got sick I was really active. I did numerous sports and my most favorite would probably have to be weight training and I really liked pilates too. Pilates is a pretty good activity even for being sore. It works you out but is slow and tender. You do resistance for workouts instead of doing strenuous workouts. Pool workouts are fun too, and hot tubs feel awesome.

I have trouble eating as well. I don't know why, but it's really hard to just get food in my mouth. My stomach always hurts but I hate the process of eating. It kind of grosses me out. I can't eat in front of other people. I mean, maybe it's because I'm still overcoming an eating disorder, but I just don't like to eat.

Tristal 11-24-2010 05:35 AM

I have no problem eating in front of people. I'm probably a pig when I do eat... :P

Emkq 11-24-2010 06:11 AM

Sometimes i don't eat when i'm sad. Or i don't eat in the morning of loss of appetite. Or i just focus on the computer and don't eat.

Tristal 11-24-2010 06:58 AM

I do that a lot too. I'll wake up and be sick to my stomach and I'll occupy myself and comletely forget till like 1 oclock to actually eat. Even then I still don't feel well enough to eat and sometimes don't eat till like 3-4 oclock.

melonmilk 11-24-2010 07:42 AM

my god, this is so weird. i've been having trouble eating for the past year. D:
i used to be a pig, and no amount of food could make me feel sick. i am one of those typically painfully skinny people who seems to eat their bodyweight each day.
but i started living (homeschooling) on my own and making all my meals, and i got lazy... :'D i lived on cup noodle lol. literally. and i never ate breakfast, apart from the weekends. now that i'm back at school with normal eating hours, if i eat breakfast i puke. no matter what. and i feel ill for the rest of the day. lunch is alright, and then dinner, if i eat too much, makes me feel like my stomach's being crushed. i have no idea what this is, but i'm blaming me plus cup noodle. :S
my mom wants me to get checked at the hospital, cause i've also had weird stomach cramps since i was little (ones that make you drop to the floor in pain. she thought i was just being dramatic, which i probably was ;>_>) and i have weird mood swings.
i feel a bit stupid posting in here when people have valid medical problems.. ^^;

Tristal 11-25-2010 01:46 AM

Just because a doctor hasn't told you you're medically ill doesn't mean there isn't anything wrong. It could just be undiagnosed. If you are having problems than you should get checked. It took them a year before they ran out of things to check and slapped "fibromyalgia" on me. I could have inflammatory bowel disease and no one would know. >_< I do have pain so it could even be both. I'm always tender on top of everything else.. -_-

Sho-Shonojo 11-25-2010 02:00 AM

I don't have this problem in the least. o.o;; In fact I'm one of those who people who is constantly getting hungry. I don't overeat or anything, I just eat often. I typically eat three meals a day, an afternoon snack, and one or two desserts (depending on how late I stay up).

I don't know how people can go without eating breakfast in the morning. I am starving when I first get up. The first thing I do is eat.

I can't imagine eating feeling like a chore.

Arumaixana 11-26-2010 04:41 AM

I don't ave troubles eating, but I have WEIRD eating habits.
Some days (but not many) I have nothing for breakfast, nothing for lunch, an average sized dinner, and then I pig out at 9:30-10:00 at night. My friends jokingly accuse me of being anorexic, cuz I'm 108 pounds XD I can't help it I have a small appetite...

MYSTICALAirah 11-26-2010 07:23 AM

is there any reason for you to have that kind of appettitte Tristal? you seems to loss a lot of pounds out there, dont you have any ulcer?

Tristal 11-27-2010 12:49 AM

I have bowel problems and that makes me not want to eat too. But it happens even if I feel fine...

Sizzla 11-29-2010 07:21 PM

This actually belongs in Life Issues, so I'm gonna move it on over there.

Keyori 11-30-2010 01:19 PM

Sometimes, if my fiance is gone (like out of town for work or something), I'll forget to eat, and wind up only having one or two small meals a day. >3>;;

The_Crow 12-01-2010 06:40 AM

When I am having an acute anxiety attack, I cannot eat. I push it away, I refuse because my stomach has turned into a knot. At that point drinking some water or juice is a chore.

Also when I am depressed, I often cannot eat. Nor can I when I'm ill.

With all of that said, I've never gone for that long without really eating. Do you know what the catalyst might be? Before you mentioned the drugs (I take Percoset for my chronic pain). But the green and leafy tends to make people hungry.

Even now when I'm 'mostly recovered from my sickness' I eat about once a day. =/

Tristal 12-03-2010 03:24 AM

It actually doesn't give me the munchies most of the time anymore. Yea sometimes I'm able to eat a ton at once, but that could be once in a few days that it happens. I keep a lot of snackish food around that will keep me from getting sick from being to sick to eat... if that makes sense... <_<;; Usually crackers or cashews.
