Hebs frowned at Shadow's reply before he'd made a face. It was definitely refreshing to see Shadow slowly reverting back to his old self. It calmed both his heart and his soul. "After having lived for so long, that's not surprising." The snake man slowly got up to his feet as he smiled in amusement. His eyes even seemed to hold an expression that resembled, well, Shadow teasing someone. "Oh? I thought you were already the gift." Putting his hand against the wall, he reached out with his free hand to tilt Shadow's face towards him so he could meet those lips of his with his own. He'd missed that. A lot.
Nipping lightly at his bottom lip, he smiled again. "I do promise not to misuse it." Hebs had too much of a heart to misuse anything. He could be selfish but even then, he knew how to let go. |
"Well, consider it a second gift, then..." Shadow purred after Hebs pulled their lips apart. He leaned in a little closer and wrapped his arms around Hebs' waist. "Now, you must promise me...when I take you in there...you won't tell anyone what you see. You also shouldn't touch anything unless I say it's fine. But other than that, it should be fine. I'll close the door behind you."
He squirmed out of Hebs' grasp and made his way to the front of the door. He pressed his hands against it, splaying his fingers apart. The surface of the door glowed as he touched it. Slowly, it swung open--inwards. The room inside was the room Shadow referred to as his vault. It was a wide, long hallway filled with many doors. It ran all the way under the villa and underneath part of the surrounding woodland. Shadow ushered Hebs inside before closing the door. "Come. This way." Shadow began walking down the long hallway. Hanging on the wall and on small end tables all over the hall were strange objects--everything from books to medieval flails. Shadow stopped at one of the doors--an old one painted black--and opened it. He motioned for Hebs to stay and slipped inside the room. He was there for just a bit when he returned with a small green felt box. He held it out to Hebs with a grin. "Here. Open it slowly--there's probably dust all over it." |
Hebs chuckled lightly at Shadow's purring and leaned close to the other when he'd felt that arm of his wrap around him. Of course, he took the other's instructions seriously. He always has ever since he's been taken under his wing. "Promise," he said before he'd grinned at the other squirming out of his hold. He was quite tempted to tease him a little more but held himself back from doing so. He was surprised, though, when he'd seen Shadow open the said door to the place and he was in awe at the "magic" he saw. Sometimes, he had to remind himself that he lived with a family who isn't, well, normal so to speak.
Quickly moving when he was ushered in, Hebs followed after Shadow and kept his hands to himself. The place was quite a view. It would've had passed off as a museum if it weren't for the eerie feeling the place gave. When he was asked to wait, he did so and Hebs curiously tried to peer what was in the room. He couldn't make anything out even if his eyes had already adjusted to the dark and was a little more clearer compared to humans. Hebs' eyes widened at the sight of the box and he reached out to take it from Shadow. The grin made him a little wary but he did what he was told anyway. He opened the box. Slowly. He had to agree, it was pretty dusty. What was going to be inside, though? |
There was only one thing inside the little box. It was a grand old golden ring--a beautifully hand-crafted ring with a large, somewhat ominous-looking green gem in the middle of it. It had a small engraving in fancy script on the inside of the ring: To Shadow, with love. Use it well. Your dear friend, Krynali. This had obviously been a gift from either a past associate or a past freak--the latter was more likely. It was a big, beautiful ring--but what did it do?
Shadow leaned against the wall, gauging Hebs' reaction carefully. "That ring was crafted for me by a past freak--one that could bend his mind and the minds of others in a dramatically powerful sort of way. He could also see into the future. This ring is known as the Scriptorium. It allows the wearer to communicate telepathically with people and peer into the minds of others." That meant... ...could it give Hebs the power to read minds, as well as chat with people via his own mind? |
Hebs' eyes couldn't have grown any wider in surprise. The ring was... beautiful. Scratch that. It was more than beautiful. The snake man let his thumb run over the edge of the casing before he'd looked back up at Shadow. Apparently, he didn't have to ask what it did. The other was already answering his question. "That's..." He trailed off as he looked back down at the ring and then up at Shadow. A frown creased his brows. "Isn't this similar to what you can do?"
There was hesitation when he'd looked again at the ring. Should he try it out? But, what if he read the mind of someone who didn't want their thoughts to be read? |
"It is similar to what I can do. But now we can speak to each other when we're not in the same place," Shadow hummed, shuffling so that he was behind Hebs. He wrapped his arms around his waist and tugged him close, resting his head on his shoulder. "And...you can read my mind, too, don't forget." Shadow knew everything about every member of his family, almost. But, not everything was known about him.
By giving Hebs the power to see into his mind, he was handing over his absolute trust on a silver--well, rather...gold--platter and hoping he didn't betray it. After all, Shadow usually liked to keep his private thoughts to himself. |
Hebs wasn't exactly sure how to react. He should be happy but... was this what Shadow really wanted? When Shadow had positioned himself behind him and had held him close, he slowly took the ring and looked at it again. It was really beautiful. Shutting the box, the snake man slipped it on his third finger on the left before reaching up to have that hand rest on Shadow's cheek. He tilted his head a bit to kiss his jaw and smiled. "You do realize you won't be able to have any private thoughts now with me wearing this." Turning in the said embrace, Hebs' smile turned to a grin before he'd caught Shadow's lips again for a long, very long lingering kiss.
|
"Oh, I don't think I'll mind. You may be worrying about me more often than you think, though." Shadow was not always as confident as he seemed. Whenever he would go off on his own, wanting to be alone, billions of things would run through his mind at a time. When he thought, he thought deeply. Maybe a little too deeply. But he did have some pretty depressing thoughts every now and again. As well as some, well...not so appropriate ones.
Shadow backed up a bit until he was against the wall, keeping his arms tightly wound around Hebs and accepting his lingering kiss. He was in a cuddly mood again today--a clingy mood, where all he wanted was attention, teasing, and lots of physical contact--cuddling, mostly. And... Shadow's voice was echoing now in Hebs' head--he was demonstrating the other side of the ring's ability, ...you will be able to read everyone elses' minds, as well. Please try to be careful around Léan with this, though. He doesn't want his past revealed too much in detail... |
Hebs broke the kiss and nipped the other's chin lightly before he'd wrapped his arms around Shadow's waist. He didn't mind satisfying the fallen angel's need for touch, attention and everything else. In fact, he was willing to give the other his all. He had promised Damon, after all, and he intend to keep that promise. Whenever. Wherever. Just as he was about to shut his eyes and relax against Shadow, they opened right back up and his eyes widened. Shadow's lips weren't moving. He was... talking in his head.
They were communicating in each other's minds! That's all right. I don't intend to tell anyone what I've read or seen. At least, he didn't think he should be considering it isn't his business. Their safety, though, would be his priority. Tightening his hold on the fallen angel, he smiled slightly. "I love you, Shadow." Now, he could freely say that without anything else holding him back. |
You will get nosy, though, I assure you. With all the newfound freedom to pry as you please...you'll get nosy. Shadow reached up and threaded his fingers through Hebs' hair slowly, comfortingly. It was obvious that he was really liking all of the attention. Hebs' words seemed to catch him off-guard, though, and he hesitated before bringing the other's face close to his, settling for staring quite affectionately into his eyes and dropping a hand down to rub at his neck.
He'd only ever told Damon he loved him once, and that was on his deathbed. It wasn't easy for Shadow to verbally admit that he loved someone. The feelings were certainly all there in his head. But...he just couldn't sound them out. The fallen angel paused suddenly and then began nibbling on his bottom lip. "...Should I give everyone else their gifts, while I'm at it, after dinner? Is Gian done yet, by the way?" He was testing Hebs' ability to control the ring. |
Hebs leaned into those fingers and smiled in amusement. Really, he didn't see himself getting nosy. Once he'll be worried, though, he'll probably get nosy. "After dinner sounds good and Gian..." The snake man trailed off. Apparently, with the ring, he could read through the boy's thoughts and one of them included waking Alfie up with a deep kiss. A rather amused smile touched his lips. "He should be almost done about now. Is there anything you want to eat with rice?"
Shadow didn't need to verbally say the words. Hebs knew he could also just as easily transmit his thoughts to Shadow but saying it out loud made his heart go aflutter. It honestly was a nice feeling and he couldn't help but want to feel that once in a while. |
"Mm...maybe chicken doused in a sweet sauce would be good with rice..." Shadow mused, his hands wandering up Hebs' back ever so slowly. He was a great cook, of course. He often had great ideas concerning food and was always eager to help out when meal times came around.
Alfie was shocked and startled at first, having been yanked out of his sleep so suddenly--he tried to push Gian away. Then, once he realized who it was, he swatted playfully at his back, trying to get him to let go. "Mm..." When he finally managed to pull his lips away, he scowled, though his eyes were alight with amusement. "Come on! I thought you were a masked rapist or something! That's not funny." It was funny, though, and the naga was cracking up as he spoke. |
Hebs seemed to be imagining it. "It does sound good." The snake man smiled again before he'd patted Shadow's arms. "Then, how about helping me make the sweet sauce while I prepare both the chicken and the pork. After dinner, maybe we can go to your room and I can focus my attention on you and not on food." Though, food had its connotations, Hebs would rather fill his stomach with food first before he dwelled to that - the perverted thoughts.
Gian pouted and nipped playfully at Alfie's lower lip. He gave it a little tug. "I'm too handsome to be a masked rapist. And, the only one I'd like raping around here is you." Grinning down at the other, he snuggled up against him. His toes had, as usual, rubbed along those scales. The boy couldn't help it. He had a fascination with them. "I just finished cooking the rice. Hebs should be cooking what to pair up with the rice." |
Shadow gave a deep, throaty chuckle in response to Hebs' words before slipping out of his grasp and then snaking his arm around his waist. "Here. Come with me. We'll head up and start right away. The sooner, the better, after all." Shadow's mind was less focused on the food. He was, of course, quite a pervert--almost everything anyone said had a second meaning to him, and most of his words also had second underlying meanings, too, unless it was a time to be serious. He began to lead the way out of the vault and upstairs. If they didn't want the rice cooling off, they would have to step on it.
"Oh, sure. Rapists can be handsome," Alfie argued, arching an eyebrow. "On the outside, anyway. And...I hope dinner is done soon. I'm really starving, here." He had been sleeping most of the day, being more exhausted than usual. For some reason, he was hungrier, sleepier, and a little more moody than he typically was. It was odd behavior, but he hadn't taken notice of it, yet. He'd written it off simply as being homesick. |
"You're saying I'm not good-looking enough?" he asked as he propped himself up on his elbow and quirked a brow up at the naga. He shifted to lay atop him and reached up to poke his chin lightly. "You okay by the way?" Gian raised his eyebrows a little as he tilted his head a bit. The other seemed out of his element. It worried him.
Hebs looked amused. "Lead the way," he started, his hand moving to rest on Shadow's hand as he stroked the back a little with his thumb. There's something you want to happen later after dinner, don't you? he asked, teasingly, as he opened the door back to the hallway for the both of them. The walk to the kitchen was short and Hebs could already see the pot of rice sitting on the counter. Giving Shadow's jaw a little nip, he managed to pull away so he could open the fridge and pull out the ingredients they'd be needing. |
"I'm not saying that. I just like the element of surprise...a lot." Alfie paused and then cleared his throat, going a little red in the face for a moment. "Maybe I shouldn't have said that..." Shaking his head, the naga wrapped his arms around Gian, welcoming the warmth the human provided him with. "Oh? I'm fine, I'm fine. I just...I really want to go home." A hint of sadness could be seen in his eyes--quite clearly. "It's nice to travel, but I like being in my own room..."
This was worrying. If Shadow wanted to make their show a traveling one...most likely, they would need to make their rooms very portable. The best solution that Shadow had come up with was making them all in a few large mobile homes. This meant, though, that if they wanted to traverse across oceans, they would need to take a ship there rather than a plane...unless they rented a private jet. Which, with Shadow's money, wasn't much of a problem. Shadow grinned. Well...I only want something to happen if you're up for it. And I don't know what I want, specifically...is there anything you want? The fallen angel separated promptly from Hebs, leaning against the counter and watching him curiously. |
Gian noticed the way Alfie's cheeks had turned red and his lips turned up into a bright smile. "If you don't say that, I wouldn't know." The boy moved up a bit so he could press a light kiss onto the other's lips. He was really starting to like Alfie. It was getting too comfortable to be around him. Somehow, he wondered if this was what it felt like to like someone. Or love? Looking rather empathetic when he'd seen the sadness in the other's eyes, he wrapped his arms tightly around his shoulders and kissed his jaw. "We'll be home soon. Just wait a little bit more."
Hebs looked surprised. His cheeks had even turned quite pink from the question and he gave Shadow a smile. "Maybe all you'd need is a glimpse of the images getting into my head." As he said this, he pulled out the bags of pork and chicken meat from the freezer before gathering all the needed ingredients so he could cut them up. Quite vivid, aren't they? |
Alfie cuddled close against Gian, possibly seeking both affection and comfort at the same time. "...But...we can't leave until Damon's better, right?" The naga piped up, looking concerned all of a sudden. "What if Kratos or one of his friends did something wrong? Or...or what if...well, it is a huge expanse of graves out there. Are there other spirits, maybe? Did that have a bad effect on the revival?"
It was obvious that Alfie wanted to go home soon. The excitement that the villa had to offer had worn off--Shadow wouldn't let him explore in most places. Quite vivid, indeed. Shadow suddenly seemed distracted by the words and thoughts coming from Alfie. He actually hadn't considered interference... |
Gian hadn't considered that. "Maybe," he started before he'd frowned, "Do you really think the spirits could do something about-" The boy stopped. Hadn't they revived Damon from the dead? Then, wouldn't that mean there was a possibility that the spirits of some of the freaks here hadn't really laid to rest yet? Gian let Alfie cuddle close to him as he played with the ends of his hair. "Maybe Shadow could bring that up during dinner time."
Hebs had heard their thoughts, too, and he almost cut his finger if it weren't for him stopping just as Gian had stopped talking then. By the time he'd looked down, he was relieved he hadn't cut his finger. If he did, he didn't think he'd like having to suffer another mishap. The snake man did the cutting quickly and then turned to look up at Shadow. "Were there any unexpected deaths among the freaks that are now laying in the back of your villa?" |
"I'm not sure, but...yeah. Shadow might know something. Maybe he can talk to Kratos about it, too, while we're all together and eating." Alfie was ready to go home--he really wanted to head home. But until Damon was better, they were stuck here. Alfie liked having his hair touched--he tilted his head almost fully into Gian's palm. "Hm...I'm so comfortable--I don't want to get up. But...we'll need to once dinner is done."
Shadow worked on his end of the meal swiftly, yet efficiently, and he would often drift over to check on Hebs and give him a nuzzle or two before returning to his work. "Unexpected deaths? Well, of course we had a few suicides...accidents. There was a murder, but it was accidental. I don't know if sudden death would have anything to do with it, but I can point out which ones were involved..." |
Gian smiled at Alfie tilting that head of his. He was unable to keep himself from kissing the other's jaw while he watched him. "We can always get back here and I'll make you comfortable again after dinner." The boy grinned and played with Alfie's ear with his other hand. "You really have long ears. It's like an elf's." At least in the stories and their drawings, they looked like this.
Hebs would smile at the nuzzles Shadow would give him and would teasingly ask him if he liked the feeling of his scales before he left to work on the meals. He put rice on each plate and made sure he'd given Alfie the biggest portion before he'd turned to look at the fallen angel. Just listening to him made him worried. "Were there a lot?" he asked as he put the pot and the utensil he'd used into the sink. All they needed now was what Shadow was preparing for all of them. Hebs also prepared lemon drinks for everyone to contrast the sweetness. |
Alfie snickered, his cheeks coloring ever so slightly. "Okay, then. That sounds good!" he replied with unnecessary gusto. "As for my ears...well...you know what, I'm kind of mutated all over. Those wings, the tail, my ears...I'm just one weird-looking guy, I guess, haha..." Alfie was not self-conscious about his looks. He'd grown up with only his mother around, after all, and he had learned from her not to care about looks. They certainly didn't hurt, but they didn't matter, either.
Shadow finally finished with his portion of the job and, after Hebs left the table, he strode forward to place the very last bits of food on everyone's plates. "There were quite a few. Many of my older family members were tormented by terrible pasts...some did not want to live in a world where they couldn't be accepted by society." He began heading toward the hallway, looking pleased. "I will wake the two sleeping lovebirds if you fetch Alfie, Gian, and Damon." |
Hebs let out a short, "Ah," before he'd nodded. That was true. Times were changing now. It must've been hard to live before, especially without such a group like what Shadow had formed. Blinking when he was told to get the three, he gave a nod before he'd went to set the plates on the tables. The juice would follow once he'd gotten all of them on the table. That, or he could have Gian get the drinks for him. Maybe, he'll do the latter.
Gian shook his head. "You're not a weird-looking guy." And, that was true. Gian liked how Alfie looked. Hell, to him, the naga looked even better than a normal human being. Or, he was just being weird like that. Hebs was suddenly at the door, though, with a knowing smile on his lips. "It's time to eat, you two." The boy was quick to get off of Alfie so he could get up to his feet and Hebs chuckled when Gian looked embarrassed. "It's fine," he assured him, "It's nice to see you two get along really well. Could you get the glasses in the kitchen, as well? Put them on the table. They're lemonades. In case anyone wants more, the pitcher's in the fridge." With that, he went to rouse Damon from his sleep. Kratos wasn't asleep. He was playing cards with Hades. Oddly enough, he was trying to buy a couple years of his life back just so he could spend more time with his siren. Hades was well aware of that, though, but he did like making deals, which explains why he's here. |
Alfie was quick to squirm out from beneath Gian, a mortified look on his face. Having Hebs walk in on them even when they weren't doing anything but cuddling was embarrassing to the naga. He looked very skittish all of a sudden and had a bashful grin on his face. "...Ooh. Lemonade!" Alfie's attention was temporarily grabbed by the mention of sweet lemony treats. The naga loved lemonade. The sweeter, the better--as such, he dumped tons of sugar in his lemonade.
Shadow didn't bother knocking once he realized that everyone was awake. Léan was all curled up in his tank, looking bored and staring blankly off into the distance. Oh, and he was indeed bored. Without Kratos to cuddle and without his big aquarium to roam in, he had absolutely nothing to do other than laze around. Shadow's arrival was a welcome distraction, as he perked up and watched him with an interested expression. "Dinnertime," he called with a smile on his face. Damon was not asleep, either. He was laying back in his bed and staring profusely up at the ceiling. Above his head was an old mobile of the Earth and its moon orbiting around the sun. Besides music, Damon had also loved astronomy. |
Gian blinked at Alfie's suddenly exclamation of lemonade and he smiled brightly. He was distracted, as well, by that and had momentarily forgotten that Hebs had just a walk-in on them. Reaching out to take Alfie's hand, he tilted his head towards the door. "Come on."
Just as Shadow had announced that, Kratos looked up at Hades who'd dropped his cards and grumbled some obscene words. "Fine. An extra twenty years in your life." Turning to look at Léan, he frowned and the walking corpse soon disappeared like ashes. Not after he'd said something bad about the siren, though. Kratos didn't like that at all and he gathered up the cards to set it aside. "You say something bad about him again, I'll be sure to cut off all ties with you." He got up to the bed and walked to the foot of the bed to crouch down. He had extra twenty years of his life, meaning, he'll die at around the age of eighty. He doubted he'd look like an old man, though, seeing as how his power kept him young. "Come up, Léan, so I can get you out." "You like astronomy?" Hebs asked as soon as he'd gotten to Damon's room. Of course, he didn't ask that right away. He'd knocked before he'd talked. "It's dinner time, Damon." |
