The heatwave that's sweeping through Australia this week is insane...second day here and I've been sweating so much already and I've managed to stay indoors most of the time...yesterday was above 40 degrees celsius and it's expected to be much the same throughout the week until it cools down somewhat on Saturday...

Bearzy 01-14-2014 09:41 AM

Droopy: Our place wasn't that badly hit, but the kitchen is on a 30 degree angle, the hot water hardly works, the electrics are dodgy, my bedroom window is stuck shut and there are gaps in the walls that plants exploit so that we have a vine growing up the inside of our hallway.

Fun times yeah?

Drop Bear 01-15-2014 12:05 AM

Bearzy, I fucking LOVE that avi! Its a beauty!
As for the house, thats still fairly bad. Not in comparison to places that I'm sure are way worse, but still, not good. You could always spray some roundup in the cracks or something maybe? Kill off what ever is living in there if the gap is big enough?

I imagine the building industry over there in ChCh (where Im presuming you are for quake damage?) has more work than that can poke a bunch of sticks at though?

Bearzy 01-15-2014 03:46 AM

You're right, I'm in chch. There's more construction workers than houses for them to live in. It's getting a bit mental to be honest.

Woodlandnymph 01-16-2014 06:19 AM

Is it still messy there? I've a friend going to your city on Monday to finish her doctorate till July.

Do they have like temp housing for the workers?

Bearzy 01-18-2014 04:45 AM

They're cleaning it up, but a lot of it is still a mess, particularly in the central city.

See? This is the central business district a few months ago. Most of it still looks like this.

Drop Bear 01-18-2014 06:46 AM

HOLY TOLEDO! Thats a LOT of vacant space in there!

Im guessing the hard part is securing materials to build with, no?

Woodlandnymph 01-18-2014 06:48 AM

Dang. That's pretty crazy Bearzy.

Materials, demolishing previous buildings, manpower, making sure the land is stable. The cordon on that area was only lifted in July, (that's why there's no cars on the roads in the photo) because it wasn't safe yet to send people in to do any work.
The rebuilding has started now, but it's slow going.

Drop Bear 01-20-2014 02:35 AM

I imagine there would be a lot of council development input for the new constructions, they'd be snowed under inspecting and approving everything too huh?

Bearzy 01-20-2014 09:58 AM

Oh definitely.

Drop Bear 01-23-2014 08:54 AM

Unh... [stare]
*slides around on a couch* [chair]
I dont want to get up at 5am [headdesk]
I dont even want to cook dinner... [t2h]
But the thought of having a couple drinks to make me sleep is appealing! [hic]
And I do need the left overs for lunch tomorrow... [gonk]
C'mon Drop Bear, have a cook up, watch something while you eat, then shower, and sliiiiiide into bed for a good nights sleep! [poke]

DAMN YOU LOGICAL BRAIN! [illgetu]
Fine. I'll do it, just so I can sleep... [zzz]

And THIS is how I motivated myself to do stuff after work when I have a bawlzoclock start... [:?]

Bearzy 01-23-2014 11:00 AM

I got home from work tonight at about half past ten. I leave for work tomorrow morning at 8am. I hate everything.

Drop Bear 01-23-2014 11:13 AM

damn! thats less break that I get! ive got 12hrs at least between finish and start!

Bearzy 01-23-2014 01:24 PM

I have 12 hours between finish and start, but I have a long commute. An hour in the morning, and an hour and a half at night. (And I swear to god, I need to get to sleep, but it's 2:30am and I just wrote a stripper Alternate Universe for a really serious epic fantasy series and for some reason that's more important?)

*Makes you a dinner of muffins and potato chips*

Enjoy! Cause that's um...nutritious.

Ling 01-24-2014 01:42 AM

If the muffins are English muffins and not the cake type, depending on what goes with them, I imagine they could be potentially nutritious...but somehow I think Woody is referring to the cake type, triple chocolate style...[lol]

Drop Bear 01-24-2014 05:44 AM

You guys know me so well! MUFFINS! *dives into food*

Woodlandnymph 01-25-2014 06:32 PM

Yah. I was talking about the cake-y kinda muffins. Though, english muffins are awesome!!

Ling 01-26-2014 02:10 AM

Yes, cake muffins are great sweet or savoury, when made well...English muffins...probably taste best with cheese, poached egg and bacon...like the McMuffins...[:D]

Bearzy 01-26-2014 09:12 AM

English muffins are pretty nice with butter and jam too. As long as they're still warm. Yum yum yum.

Ling 01-26-2014 10:32 AM

I've never bought a packet of English muffins but the butter and jam or butter and honey combination on crumpets is delightful! [drool]

Bearzy 01-26-2014 10:54 AM

Mmmm, true. [drool] Now I'm hungry.

Ling 01-26-2014 10:58 AM

I'm eating crackers...spring onion crackers from the Asian grocery store...I don't often buy them but the spring onion pieces and oil combined with the crisp cracker is soo good once in a while...

Drop Bear 01-27-2014 03:55 AM

SCREW YOU GAIZ! *flips table* Now im jonesing for some frickin' english muffins with peanut butter and jam and such! I know what I'm having for lunch now at least!
