Summary: An AU Wing!verse fic written for plotbear's birthday.

The air held a kind of stillness up on the roof that Monkey couldn't find anywhere else in the city. He was good, he only went up there very late at night, since Gabe had once caught him flying off the tip of the roof and into the yard to stare at a butterfly. But even late at night when he was normally half-asleep was better than no time at all away from the noise and other people. Except Gabe-hyung, he wouldn't have minded if Gabe wanted to come up and sit with him in the darkness. But he never did, and Monkey had stopped offering.

Tonight marked the end of an insanely busy week. They'd had comeback launch for their "Juliet's Anjel" MV and had been on more variety shows and given more autographs than Monkey could count. He was so tired, there had been several nights that he'd never slept at all in the previous crazy days. There were new remixes and dances to learn for their appearances every day. He had brought a blanket with him onto the roof and sat silently wrapped in it, his robin's-egg blue wings nearly blending into the shadow filled light. Monkey tucked his fists into the edges of blanket and made covered cat paws with them. He settled his chin on the "paws" and let his eyes drift closed, his mind turning to its favourite subject - Gabe.

First Gabe had let him curl up against him on the couch one evening a few weeks ago, when his eyes were droopy with sleep and he wanted /someone/ to cuddle him so badly it almost hurt. He'd expected Gabe to get up and leave him as usual, but he hadn't. Then a few days later when Monkey twisted his ankle slightly during a practice Gabe had jumped half-way across the stage to catch him and had held him while Manager poked at it to make sure he hadn't broken anything and wrapped it up. And when Monkey had cried out in his sleep that night from a particularly vicious nightmare where he had walked in on Gabe-hyung and Monkey's favourite HUG-ya member having sex (really, really kinky sex, there were whips and things involved that Monkey didn't even know the names of) and Gabe had taken the knife he'd been sliding against Kinda's skin and ran at Monkey with the point out, Gabe, the real Gabe-hyung, not the scary evil nightmare Gabe, had rushed in and woken him up just before the blade reached him. He'd held Monkey then so sweetly that the feeling of his arms had kept him going all the next day despite the pain in his ankle. But the best part had been that the night after that, the one that began the preceding week of doom, Gabe had let Monkey crawl into bed with him after another nightmare (a silly one involving Manager turning into a deadly evil clown, but still a nightmare) and when he thought Monkey had fallen asleep had brushed a kiss against his forehead and wrapped one arm around him after petting his wings lightly. Monkey didn't sleep for hours, just lying breathlessly in the bliss of Gabe's embrace.

Every night after that, whenever it was that Monkey finally crawled into bed (if he did at all, and the nights he didn't were very hard), he went straight to Gabe's room and curled up beside him. And every night, when he'd drifted off to "sleep," even if Monkey had thought Gabe very sound asleep himself, he'd roll over to kiss Monkey - sometimes on the forehead, sometimes on his cheek or jaw or nose, but never his lips - and Monkey would try with all his might not to kiss him back. A few times, as if he was being very brave, Gabe would brush his fingertips against the feathers spread out against the pillow and sigh deeply.

Gabe was up working with Manager that night and had told Monkey he might be up all night, a Gabe-like way of saying he might not be coming to bed at all, so Monkey had perched himself on the roof, wrapped tight against the breeze that was picking up quickly. He was drifting off now, pondering if a blanket on the roof was as lonely as Gabe's bed without him, when a gust of wind pushed past him and suddenly Gabe was there, a smile you could almost call shy stretching his wonderful lips.

"Gabe-hyung! I didn't, I mean, you never came up here, and I thought you were with Manager all night and so I came up here to sleep." Monkey un-pawed one hand from the blanket and raised it unconsciously in his sputterings. Gabe took it, settling himself next to the wide-eyed boy and adjusting his nearly invisible slate-blue wings behind him.

"We got done early and I come up here too, sometimes, you know." Gabe didn't let go of Monkey's hand, he kept it and held it between both of his protectively instead.

He looked down at his feet, his toes protruding from under the blanket. "You do? I... I didn't know, actually. I love it here so much."

"So do I." Gabe replied quietly. A pause formed in the air, hanging between them until Gabe broke it. "I haven't been ignoring you, ok, that's not true..." he took a deep breath, "Monkey, dong-saeng, come here." He tugged on the hand between his own, inviting Monkey closer. When he scooted over, Gabe took his other hand. "Sometimes there are things that get so big, so important, you can't ignore them, no matter how hard you know you should. You're that thing, dong-saeng, and I've tried, for so long, but I'm too tired." He let go of one hand to slide some hair away from Monkey's confused and now-huge eyes. This was the most Monkey had heard Gabe say in one sitting... well... ever. "I can't keep acting here at home as well as out on display to the world. I can do one or the other, but not both. And I can't hide how I feel from you any more. I should, but I can't." He shook his head rather desperately. "I know you care about me as a big brother, probably more than your own flesh-and-blood brothers, but I don't want to be that to you any more."

Monkey stared in utter confusion for a long moment. He had... had never loved Gabe as a brother. Not from day one. He had dreamed of nothing but him since seriously the first moment they'd been introduced. "Gabe-hyung, I think there's been... I mean, communication isn't always easy in the situations we get thrown into. I don't love you like that... like a brother I mean!" He turned a shade of red that would have matched some of his more bright leotards. "I. I love you. I have... forever." He shrugged slowly, his wings moving in the wind. He looked up at Gabe with a look that was far more serious than he usually was, his eyes shimmering with tears he was unashamed of. "Two years, Gabe-hyung, two years. I flirt and act silly around hot guys, but I've never gone with any of them. Not since I met you. I couldn't. I gave myself to you in the waiting room at the office when we were introduced."

Gabe's reaction to all of this was highly typical, in that he sat perfectly still while Monkey was talking and then continued on in that way while he digested it and thought through his reply. Monkey's patience levels were not what they could be, understandably, but he suffered through it, all the while allowing himself to think that if this was going in the direction it seemed like it was, two years of hope might finally be rewarded. His leader turned to face him and pulled Monkey over so he was curled up between Gabe's thighs. "You. You love me."

He was still processing. Monkey swore inwardly and reached up to kiss Gabe with a kind of sweet passion that seemed very /him/. He pulled back and cupped his hands on Gabe's jaw. "Yes, love you, you and only you the whole time we've known each other. There's nothing to think about, other than if that's really what you want. If it's not... " he shrugged, trying to put on a Jin-cool air and failing miserably. "No, no..." he whispered, curling into the tiniest ball he could manage with his wings getting in the way between Gabe's legs, "If not I'll keep loving you and keep trying to hide it like I have been. This changes nothing if you don't love me."

Gabe's heart crumpled. His emotions broke through, at last, and he caught the thin boy up, wrapping him tight and hiding his face against Monkey's neck. "I love you." They were the only words Gabe could handle at that moment, but they were the right ones, the only ones that Monkey hoped to hear. He'd been dreaming, both actual dreams and day-dreams, of hearing those words in that deep smooth voice for so long he was afraid he'd drifted off to sleep. Gabe's breath, warm on Monkey's skin, made it real. He was loved, he was loved by his own beloved Gabe-hyung. He lifted his face to smile at Gabe, his lips stretched into the sweetest smile he was able to give, and when Gabe caught Monkey into his arms and onto his lap in a joyous scooping movement, he also covered Monkey's lips with kisses that were so heartbreaking perfect and sweet and hungry and light and just full of love.

Moments later Monkey realised he was being lifted off the roof in Gabe's arms. Gabe was carrying him - while flying - he'd wanted this for so, so long! He didn't ask where they were going and was mildly surprised to find himself standing simply in the yard below after a short flight. Gabe kissed him again, deeper this time, but with perfect Gabe-gentlemanliness. "We can talk, and do other things, tomorrow," he explained as he led Monkey inside the house and up to his - their - room. "But tonight, dong-saeng, we are both so tired that I think sleeping might be in order." Monkey wanted to protest, wanted to stay up talking and kissing and whatever else might happen, but Gabe was right. He was nearly asleep on his feet as he slipped on his pj bottoms and made sure he hadn't mussed his wings too badly in the wind. Gabe finished his similar nightly ministrations and went over to where Monkey was brushing out a bit of leaf caught in his feathers. He removed the leaf and smoothed the feathers, pressing a kiss to them and spinning Monkey in his arms. "So no more sneaking in to sleep when you think I am already asleep, ok?" he asked, almost nervously.

"Of course," Monkey replied, and then blushed bright red. "Will you still kiss me good night now, like you did before?"

Gabe coloured hotly. He had thought that was still a secret. "Yes..." he paused. Taking Monkey's hand, he led him to the bed and helped him get settled on the pillow and under the blanket, tucking him in with the utmost care before slipping into the bed himself and not waisting a second before he had Monkey in his arms again. "Only now, my Monkey, I don't have to hide it and can kiss you good night like this." Soft, warm lips melted against each other, longing, adoration - a perfect kiss - and when they drew apart there were tears in the eyes of both boys. Gabe kissed Monkey's away and they lay there, cheek resting on cheek, their breathing synchronizing as they hovered in that space between desire and sleep. Sleep won, but not before they settled with their noses touching on the pillow and their hands clasped between their hearts.

Once Upon a Time

Title: Once Upon a Time
Rating: PG13
Pairing: Prince!Gabe/Captive!Songbird!Monkey (also Jin/Johnny)
Words: 1199
Summary: A Fairy Tale AU from Prince Gabe's perspective

Once upon a time, there lived a prince. He was the eldest son of a much beloved king, and one day he would follow his father to take the thrown. But in his heart he carried a secret that he knew could steal the crown from his father's head and his as well: the kind had fathered a son with a courtesan and the boy was being raised right there in the castle. The Prince discovered this by accident, and the king knew not that his son held the key to the destruction of their royal house in his heart, but the Prince resolved to help his half-brother grow up as a prince of the realm should.

The Prince had a friend, the son of his father's loyal advisor, who did not view life as seriously as the Prince did. They were darkness and light, gold and silver, day and night. They had been raised as closely as brothers, so when the Prince realised that his playboy of a friend desired his own younger half-brother, it cost him a great deal to keep his father's secret.

As his beautiful and child-like younger brother grew to manhood, so grew the advisor's son's admiration and lust for him. The Prince finally decided that he could not risk his friend knowing the secret and revealing it in a moment of drunken thoughtlessness, so he had no hold over telling him he should not follow his heart in that matter. Instead he took his friend aside one evening and sat him down in the great library of the castle. "My friend, you have within you a love for a boy who is barely a man and has not experienced any of the things of men. His mother is the greatest courtesan in our land and has no constancy within her empty heart. I fear for you if you give of yourself too much to this boy, that he will take more from you than he could possibly give. Beware to be in his thrall."

The advisor's son smiled, his handsome face alight with amusement. "Oh my prince, you know I am master of my own heart. I have bedded many and given of my heart to none. This lad is nothing to me but a treat in his innocence and naïveté, but even so I wish to give him a start to his manhood that is one well remembered even when he is old."

The Prince sighed and shook his head. His friend had strength within his heart and their friendship was true, but still he feared that the taint of the boy's mother was such that no good could come of it. He had tried with his brother, but there was too much of his early training, of the kind only learned at the knee of ones mother, that could not be undone. Still, he had a fierce love and need for protection over the lad who could never know he was a princeling, and rather his friend bring him to manhood than someone else.

One night, not many after the conversation between the Prince and his friend, the Prince dreamed such a vision that it would last with him, as real as any thing he had seen with waking eyes. In his dream there was a tower, and in the tower was not a maiden trapped by dragon or evil step-mother, but a boy with dark hair and a smile like the morning sun who was trapped by his own desire to be a princess who was rescued by a handsome prince. His father had scolded him throughout his youth, hoping the wish would be burned from him by words, but they only strengthened his desire.

The Prince woke with the vision of the lovely tower-locked boy in his mind, and knew, somehow in his heart, that he was real. He went to the king and knelt before him. "Oh my father, my king, there lies to the east of your kingdom a great injustice - a child kept locked in a tower by his evil father. You, who have been the best of fathers to me, must understand my need to right this wrong. I beg you to give me your permission to seek out this tower and free the boy inside."

Pondering, the King looked at his son fondly, knowing full well the need for justice that blazed in his soul, and nodded. "Yes, my son, take from our storehouses that which you will need and go forth, and when you have found the place you seek, free the boy and bring him here, that he might know freedom." He gave forth the royal seal to his son, that his words might have promise, and sent him on his way.

Following only the wiles of the vision blazing in his heart, the Prince rode through the forests until he came to the place where a tower stood off in the distance. He knew it at once to be the place in his dream and he rejoiced that the sun-kissed boy might soon be free because of him. When he neared the tower he saw a window built high and near the top and on the wide window ledge perched the boy, a song-bird voice floating from him into the breeze. The Prince stopped to listen, each note burning deeper into his being, and he knew he had been right to come. He leaped down from his mount and, brandishing his sword, demanded entry. An old man peered out with great suspicion clouding his features. "Who are you to so impudently cry at my door? I know you not, and therefore no entry shall you have."

"I am the Crown Prince of the nearest kingdom, and have heard of the son you keep locked above us. I am here to take him to my home, where he need not remain alone and unloved."

"You may take him, and be gone with him. Trouble only has he brought to this house and may that trouble follow him to yours!" The man spat at the ground near the Prince's feet and stepped aside so the Prince could begin to climb the stares that led upwards. At the top the door was barred, but the song of the boy inside could yet be heard. Removing the bars, he pushed forward the heavy door and entered the room. Red-gold light from the setting sun wrapped the young man in the window in a splendid glow. He stopped the song to look on the Prince with a gaze that melted him through and through.

"Are you, brave prince, come to rescue me?" He stood up from the windowsill, his step faltered as did his voice, and the Prince put out his arms.

"Yes, my songbird, if you my Princess will be."

Once upon a time in a castle there lived two princes, one who would be king and one who was prince only to the man who loved him. There was also a princess who loved the would-be king, and together they lived very happily ever after.

Bedtimes

Title: Bedtimes
Rating: PG
Pairing: Jin/Johnny
Words: 428
Summary: Jin wakes up to find a sleeping Johnny in his bed

Jin woke up and made a noise of confusion. His bed was not normally full of someone else, at least not his bed at the dorm. Then he realised whose hair was fluffed into his face, and sighed blissfully. Johnny must have snuck in at some point during the night, but he’d never done that before. Jin snaked his arm around his boyfriend’s waist and snuggled close to him. He’d only been able to do this the weekend of their first week anniversary, and the memory was very precious, so having a few minutes before the alarm went off to just gloat over the sweetness of having his arms full of Johnny was wonderful. He smiled at the way the light coming over the top of his curtains made Johnny’s ear look pink and fragile. He breathed in the scent of sleepy maleness and a hint of the lime shampoo Johnny used. He nuzzled kisses along the nape of his maknae’s neck as the time for the alarm to begin its unholy ringing drew closer.

“Don’t want to get up yet,” Johnny mumbled, pressing back against Jin and making a small huffing noise of annoyance. Jin laughed and kissed the pink-shell ear.

“We have a meeting with Manager in an hour, baby,” Jin murmured, nuzzling the tip of his nose against Johnny’s jawline.

Johnny blinked awake and gave a happy little laugh. “Oh... hyung... I’m in your bed?”

“Yup, no idea how you got here, but it was a nice surprise to wake up to,” Jin hugged him fiercely and nipped at his chin as Johnny turned his face up.

“I... think I had a nightmare? Or something? I don’t really remember, actually, maybe I just missed you” Johnny admitted, turning faintly red.

“I wish we could always sleep like this,” Jin replied, sighing and pressing a soft kiss against his cheek, “I... I wonder if Gabe-hyung would mind.” /Since Monkey’s sleeping in his room almost every night/, Jin thought with a wry smile. But knowing what he did about Gabe’s relationship to Johnny he thought it very likely their leader wouldn’t quite see it as the same thing.

“Would... you really dare to ask him?” Johnny asked with huge eyes.

Jin laughed. “Yes, I think I do dare. For you.” He caught his lover’s lips with what would have been a loving, long kiss had the alarm not blared annoyingly. A thump on the wall from Tavon’s room caused them both to giggle and Johnny pushed the snooze button with an impish glint in his smiling eyes.

Title: Night Music
Words: 231
Rating: PG
Warnings: Romantic sappiness

The night sky twirled stars above them and Monkey nestled closer against Gabe, his head resting in the crook of his lover's arm, his face against his chest. Soft string music from the concert being held, open-air, in the park seemed the perfect soundtrack to the gently joined beats of their hearts and the movements of the smudge-grey clouds that passed across the stars. They had come out that night to the concert, Monkey found the ad in the newspaper weeks ago and had saved it, clipping it and putting it on the tray he brought up to Gabe that morning, tucked under the edge of his bowl of cereal (covered in fresh sliced strawberries of course). Gabe had pulled him onto the bed when he saw it, his grin lighting up Monkey's heart.

But they never made it to the concert - Gabe twirled Monkey into his arms when they were still walking to the lighted pavilion set up for it, and they danced in the trees together to the beautiful sounds. Monkey whispered that it sounded like fairies, and Gabe didn't disagree. After a while they slipped down to the grass and watched the twinkling as each star came out, filling in the names together until they had listed all they knew. Gabe pressed kisses to Monkey's temple, his voice whispering deep in the darkness.

"Happy anniversary, my love."
