I wasn't targeting Christians. I was targeting that specific person based on what the person that posted that comment on Facebook said.
I used to have a lot of Christian friends, but not really so much anymore. Its not that we had an argument or anything, just... once I left the church they didn't see any point in being my friend anymore. And anytime I make friends with someone who is religious, they seem to have trouble taking me seriously when I tell them that I don't have a specific religious belief. Same actually happens with proud atheists I seem to meet: if you mention anything about any religious holiday they immediately scoff. -shrug- ANYWAYS. Bellydancing. One of the reasons Liz REALLY likes me is because I have the courage to get up on a stage wearing a belt that jingles, feathers all up in my hair, and shaking my lovely, lovely hips in front of thirty or more people. I think my next costume should be peacock-themed... |
I really wish I had your guts. I'm a freaking PANSY when it comes to performing outside of a drill team unit......Perfect example: I had my first speech for my speech comm class today, and I literally felt like I was going up to the gallows when I was going up there to speak. I've been in a speech class in high school, but it still scared the shit outta me.
I'm sooooo not made for public speaking. Or performing. |
Oh god, I HATE public speaking. If I'm talking to a small group of people I'm fine, but if you have me in a big room of more than 40 people, you can't hear me over the stutter. >>
But when I'm dancing... its not trying to speak to an audience. Dancing, to me, is a conversation with myself. Its intimate, expressive. The audience isn't even there at that point, they're just part of the lights. I don't even know they're there until they start clapping. |
You are so lucky. You've still got more guts than me when it comes to getting up in front of a bunch of people and performing by yourself, and I'm a damned wuss when it comes to that. And I have no rhythm, so that really doesn't help....
|
Yeah, well, Ke$ha can't sing but that didn't stop her from becoming a pop star.
|
Haven't seen much of Ke$ha, and I'm not all that interested in pop or rap/hip-hop to begin with. Give me rock, Celtic rock, and J-rock any day.
|
I stick with my... odd assortment of... world music, dance music, classic rock.... random stuff from the 90's. xD
My point was that just because you don't have rhythm doesn't mean you can't dance. Martha Graham made an entire dance movement based on rigid motion that didn't match the music. Dance is expression. If expression is off-beat, who cares? Its for you. And even so, practice makes perfect. xD |
Meh. I haven't had much practice anyway, sadly. I really wish I had....
What makes it worse is the fact that I'm the only one in my family that hasn't had some kind of musical training. My. Life. Sucks. |
Well, then that just makes you the manager, now doesn't it? ^^
I'm the only one in the family with the musical training. Musicians are wired differently than other people, as are artists and writers... so I'm triply misunderstood. xD Used to play the piano and the viola. Then I discovered that dance, art, and writing were better for me as self-expression. But because I had already learned three different clefs from musical training it stuck with me. Music and dance are like learning foreign languages. |
I could dance if someone taught me. Visual kinesthetic. :) I learn that kind of stuff extremely easily.
|
I'd be able to, considering my training in drill. It's just a matter of whether or not I can ever get lessons. I wanna learn celtic step dancing sooo bad! And the guitar!
Yet two more broken promises from my dad. |
Me also. And piano. Chicks dig it. lol.
|
Chicks also dig dudes who can cook well. Seriously. Half of my friends would rather have a date in where their boyfriend cooks them a meal than spending money on a fancy meal elsewhere.
|
I want to learn belly dancing, like Hyena does. I have excellent muscle control, and yet I'm supremely uncoordinated. I really can't tell whether I would be a success or a failure.
|
I cook. I've literally had people tell me they have dreams about my soup. :)
|
Biggles: muscle control is important for an advanced dancer because bellydance is so detail-oriented, but... you might want to work on that coordination a little bit. That comes with practice. xD
sarofset: Vella, my roommate, is probably the best cook I have ever met. She made a potroast weeks ago that I am STILL thinking about. xD |
I did take ballet and tap as a child, and was marginally successful at those. And I was just as uncoordinated then as I am now.
|
@Hyena: Whoa! Clothes on cowboy. lol.
|
No clothes. Naked party in Swans' thread. Of course I attend! xD
The difference, Biggles, though is that when you're a kid you're pretty much made of rubber. You're going to be sore when you get up in the morning. xD |
Oh, soreness doesn't bother me. It's looking like I am having convulsions whilst I am trying to dance that would put me off.
|
As long as it doesn't make me throw up, then belly dancing wouldn't bother me at all. Which it probably won't. As for the sore, that I'm used to. Gotta love ROTC PT Fridays! :XD
|
The only risk of throwing up is really when you start doing barrel turns in veil dances. And that can be fixed with a percussive movement to even it out. It does use muscles you're not used to, though.
|
Being sore is no problem. Martial arts since I was six. I've been sore in places you don't know exist till they're sore.
|
@ Hyena: *sigh* yet another thing i'll never know.....
@ Sarof:  Nice! I've only been in tae kwon do, but I ended up having to leave for several reasons: 1) I couldn't take any of the tests because they started at a $50 fee and went up from there, plus there was the uniform which I had to buy, which was about $60. So, I couldn't afford to go beyond a white belt. 2) The lessons are at the local Boys & Girls Club, which was full of racism, sexism, and just about any other kind of stereotyping and labelling. And about 90% of the time I was on the recieving end of it. In short, not a lot of motivation to keep going. |
I'm sorry. That's not what it's supposed to be about.
