Do you train your dogs?
Or do you take them to obedience classes? My mom and I always personally trained our dogs and they've always been very respectful, attentive dogs. Right now, I'm personally training my first personal dog- a pit/lab mix. She's been quite a handful since she's got the strength, robustness and stubbornness of the pitbull and the energy of a lab. It's a pretty lethal combination. Lol. But she's a wonderful dog. Incredibly smart and protective of me or anyone in our family, though. So tell me mene, do you train your dogs too?

I trained my bulldog to do her business outside, sit down, and play dead. I wanted to teach her how to ride a giraffe, but I don't have the time nor resources. :P
|
Lol nice. D: How old is said bulldog? I wish I could teach my dogs to ride giraffes..

When I had a little fluffy mutt, my Mapo, I trained her to sit and dance, go potty outside.
I now have a sheltie and border collie / aussie shepard mix. Charlie, the sheltie, is pretty well trained. Genna we should train better. She loves people which, when she knows them well enough - she will jump on them. She is trained in spanish and english to "Gimme your paw - okay gimme the other." I'm trying to teach her both languages. <3 And I'm working on the jumping. *hee hee hee* |
Right now I'm training our duschad poodle to potty trian inside. She's an inside dog. I love her som so full of life and cute!!!
|
@Fauxreal- Awwww, that's so cute. My dad's dog can dance....when it wants a treat. Lolz. D: Keeping working on them and I'm sure she'll get better. : 3 Mine still jumps on peoples, too. Gradually, I'm teaching her not to, though.

I personally train my dog, I've a large newfie mix and he's pretty well behaved. The Dachshund is another story, he's proving difficult.
|
all our dogs have done a basic obedience, and then we continue training for what suits them best. Right now we have a Boston Terrier (9 years), a white Boxer (2 years), and a French Bulldog (6 months)

Small dogs always seem to be far more difficult. I suppose it's because of their size, their mindsets are different from larger breeds of dogs.

I usually wake up to him licking me with his squished wrinkly face. :P |

I trained my dog myself. Took him to classes once, and the stupid woman there was trying to teach them to dance. So I walked out.
As far as I'm concerned, all my dogs need to know training wise are : The commands "Come here." "Wait" and "Get off the couch". Not to eat things that he's not given by me or a member of the family (lots of farmers around here and hunters, so I don't want him to eat anything that could be poisoned) and to Pee and Poo outside which luckily he'd already learnt at just 8 weeks old when we got him. Other than that, I'm happy for him to do his own thing. Just things that are important for his safety and his and my general well being. I hate the idea of teaching animals tricks that serve no purpose other than humans amusement. I wouldn't want someone to force me to dance around in silly clothes or even to shake hands on command, all seems cruel to me. I wouldn't want to inflict that any animal. |
I was only 2 or 3 when we got our dog, so I had nothing to do with that. And no, she wasn't trained at all. -_- Believe me, if I ever convince my boyfriend to let me get a dog, I'm going to train it. I will probably take the dog to obedience classes, but ones that train both me and the dog (what's the point of having the dog trained if I'm not trained in the commands?). No drop offs. I leave when the dog leaves.

I don't have a dog currently but when we did, I don't remember ever training him, but I was so little, we may have and I just don't remember. If I got a dog though, I would probably do obedience classes first because I have never trained a dog. After that though I would try to continue teaching it nifty little tricks :3

In my family, the dog gets smacked with a slipper if he ever tries to climb onto the bed. He used to chase me on the couch all the time.

Ooouu...that's the case with me, too. Most of the dogs we owned, my mom trained them- though I helped take care of them. My pit/lab is the first dog I've been training personally and independently. It'd be going along alot better if my dad and brother wouldn't do things that pretty much undo everything I've been working towards. It's like pushing a wheelbarrow full of rocks up a hill, then when I get to the top of the hill, they push it over and roll the rocks back down.

At the moment I am training my PomChi, Tilly. (Pomeranian and Chiwawa) Things are going great so far. But I do plan on taking her to training classes when i get the money. I think it will help her and i to "communicate" to each other in a way.
Here is Tilly <3 Awake and playful. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...IMG_6666-1.jpg Size Reference. Haha. She had to jump to get through the grass. The recently cut grass was too tall for her. Aww. Haha. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...IMG_6661-1.jpg She Loves loves loves her belly rubs. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...IMG_6676-1.jpg |
