Nykita looked at Lee sharply at that question and wondered how she should answer. Finally she decided on the honest truth. Wih her childhood she hadn't really had an opertunity to 'date' and when she'd lived with her grandmother the thought no longer appealed to her.
"I've never actually dated before," she said carefully. "I've been too busy and I've just...not been interested..." She trailed off. She was lying slightly but it was still a half truth and she wasn't about to go spilling everything about herself to this woman. She had just met Lee after all and some things were better off unsaid. |
"Well, what is your father like then?" Lee asked. "Most women are attracted to men who are similar, we'll find you one like him." The way she was talking, it sounded like she meant they were going out to street-walk, but something about her casual tone was very dark and unnerving... "Never mind, I'll pick someone for you. Just come along and I'll show yu what to do, you'll find the right one when need be." |
Nykita knew that Lee didn't mean anything by it but at the mention of finding someone like her father she immediately tensed, her teeth gritted and her eyes flashed with a mix of emotions, most prominently hatred, disgust and fear.
She began to close in on herself without realising it, retreating into her inner mind where she was safe, where she could think and not feel. 'No,' she silently thought. 'Not again, never again. No no no no no no no...' She had backed away from both the dog and Lee and was now leaning against the wall, her body trembling slightly. She barely took in the words that Lee had spoken. All she could think about was the words taht Lee had spoken earier. 'What is your father like...most women are atracted to men who are similar...' |
"Oh, you don't know him- that's cool, I don't know my father either. Come, we'll just find some random punk then." Lee said casually, totally not picking up on Nykita's behavior. She took her hand and led her downstairs, the boys had no time to ask before she took Nykita out to the garage where the bikes were. She lifted hers up like it was a tricycle and set it down outside before climbing on without a helmet. "Well, come on, get on." she said to Nykita. |
During the walk to the garage like area Nykita had time to compose herself. She forced her muscles to relax and she managed to crawl her way out of her inner mind. She had to stop doing that, reacting so strongly when he was mentioned. That part of her life was over. She knew that so it was time to stop thinking about it.
She glanced at Lee then at the bike and then back to Lee. Was this really a good idea? Shurgging her shoulders Nykita nodded her head before climbing gengerly onto the back of the bike behind Lee. She'd never ridden one of these before, never even thought about it in fact. She'd barely been comfortable driving a car and typically these things went a lot faster than the average car. |
