"I don't know. Maybe we smelled bad. Or maybe we smelled too good." Aleron paused. "Or we just didn't get down to its nest. I mean, it was protecting its nest. I've seen that behavior before; it was protecting its nest, but I don't think we'd gotten to its nest already or it wouldn't have waited. It would have attacked."
"But people go into Sprout Tower all the time, don't they?" Margaret asked. "Unless the top floors are off-limits to everyone..."
"Yeah, I think you can only go up so far. Plus there's a basement that's off-limits." Aleron shrugged.
"How are all three able to get in and out without people noticing?" Margaret asked. "We saw three sets of pawprints, and they were all different. If they're all that terrifying, how do people not notice?"
"They're all fast," Aleron said. "I'm sure they could sneak in and out without being seen if they didn't want to be seen."
"True," Margaret said. She sighed. "I'm still shaking... I've never been that close to a legendary before."
"Neither have I. I don't think very many people have been." Aleron shook her head, working past the leftover terror and focusing instead on why it had happened. "It was angry, but not really at us. Otherwise it would have attacked. It almost seemed like it was judging us."
"We must have passed muster, then," Margaret replied. "But you're right, it did seem angry... I'm kind of wondering why. I mean, have you heard anything about someone making them mad?" She hadn't heard anything from Kanto, but she also stayed close to home the last couple weeks, so she wouldn't have heard anything.
"No, I haven't heard anything. I've heard that Team Rocket is getting more active again, but I haven't heard anything else," Aleron said with a shrug.
"I don't know if it happened in Kanto..." Margaret said. "I haven't heard anything, and it would be all over the news again if the birds were acting up again."
Aleron shrugged. "Yeah, I'm not sure what's going on. I just know it isn't good. When you have angry legendaries, there's nothing good about it."
"Never," Margaret agreed. She shuddered a little. "What happens if we run into the others? It's possible, if we've already run into one."
"We hope we get so lucky again next time," Aleron said. "And we don't go somewhere there may be a nest. Ever. Again."
"We don't know where the nests are," Margaret pointed out. "We can't avoid them if we don't know where they might be." She paused. "Okay, we can stay away from Pokemon Cave easily enough, and I've heard stories that Articuno nests in the Seafoam Islands sometimes, but other than that..."
"Well, the towers are nests here," Aleron said. "We'll just stay away if we find pawprints or hear loud, angry noises."
"Towers?" Margaret asked. "As in more than one?" There was a tower in Kanto, but it had been converted into a radio station, so it couldn't be a nest.
"There's this tower, the Burned Tower, and a couple others around Johto." Aleron shrugged. "I know the dogs have been seen in the Burned tower before."
"We used to have the Pokemon Tower, in Lavender Town," Margaret replied. "It used to be a resting place for deceased pokemon, but they renovated it and turned it into a radio station." She shook her head. "It really stirred up the ghosts and Ghost-types, and everyone was up in arms until the radio station started bringing in money for the town. Then it became okay. But the ghosts never really settled down again, and they hang around the town a lot."
"Yeah, I can imagine. But of course, if it's bringing in money it has to be okay." Aleron snorted in disgust.
"Mr. Fuji offered his house to be turned into a place to pay respects," Margaret replied. "He keeps a room in the back for himself, and he tends to the offerings. The ghosts tend to hang around there, since they don't have the tower anymore. I don't know if you've heard of Mr. Fuji... He's pretty well-known in Kanto. People call him Mr. Pokemon, for his work with homeless and abandoned pokemon."
"Yeah, I think I've heard of him." Aleron shrugged. "It wouldn't really surprise me."
"Lavender is pretty close to Saffron," Margaret said. "I only ever got to go once... My parents took me to Pokemon Tower before it was renovated. I remember the Ghastlys and the Haunters scaring the hell out of me. I was really little, I just hugged my mom's legs and screamed."
"They probably enjoyed that," Aleron said dryly. "In fact I'm sure they did."
"Oh, I'm sure they did," Margaret replied. "And it completely reinforced my total lack of desire to have a Ghastly or anything. Although I wouldn't mind a Misdreavus. I hear they're not as obnoxious as the Ghastly family."
"I'm sure that, like most pokemon, it depends on which one you get." Aleron shrugged. "But yeah, I think you'd do well with a Misdreavus."
