Aleron snickered. "True. Oh gosh I wonder what an alternate colored Vulpix would look like..." She smiled, happily indulging in a bit of fantasy.
"I dunno," Trent replied. "Never come across one before. Alternate-color Woopers are pink, though, I know that. I caught mine from a huge school of them, and one of them was pink instead of blue." He rolled his eyes. "Figures I saw the pink one after the fact."
Aleron just snickered at him unsympathetically. "Well, I'll have to keep my eyes open from now on for alternate colores ones." Because now that she knew it wasn't just Red, she was kind of curious.
"I think ever species has an alternate color," Trent said. "Duchess told me once about a green Seadra she saw before. And I once saw a Tentacool with green light-cells instead of red ones." He had only ever seen alternately-colored pokemon a few times, but he knew there had to be more out there.
"Huh. That is an intriguing thought. I'll have to keep an eye on the Growlithe pack around here, and the Ponyta. Maybe I'll get lucky and see an alternate color." She grinned, stretching out before rolling over to get more comfortable across Red's back. He grumbled but didn't actually move, keeping her just in the water.
Trent floated there, comfortable.
"So, how far has your affinity progressed?" he asked after a little while. "Out of curiosity." |
"Um. I can talk to them, obviously." Aleron shrugged. "That's just about it. Why? Is there more?"
"There might be," Trent replied. "I mean, I know everyone is different, but I mean... Quen and I got further than that."
"Like what?" Aleron eyed him suspiciously, watching him. Clearly she half-expected him to sprout gills and a tail, or something.
Trent grinned.
"It freaked me out at first, but I love it now," he said. "I can breathe underwater." |
"...Seriously?" Because that was half-way hilarious that she'd been kind of expecting that, and half-way freaky as all get out.
"Seriously," Trent replied. "Just kind of randomly happened one day. I was swimming, and I realized I was breathing normally. It hadn't registered at first, because it feels normal." He grinned. "Quen's close to dark-types, so he can do something different, but that's his to tell if he wants to."
Aleron shook her head, still amazed and amused. "Well, whatever works for you, I guess." She wasn't sure what her extra talent would be, if anything, but now she was curious.
"That's why I was asking how far you'd gotten," Trent said. "I wanted to see what you could do, but you're not as far."
"Clearly not." Aleron's voice was dry but she just shrugged after a moment. "I can't imagine being able to breathe underwater would be much use to me, except maybe for the very rare time Red is being a douche, but eh. To each his own."
"You're related to fire, anyways," Trent said. "If you do develop something, it'll probably be useful to you."
"I should hope so." Aleron smiled a little. "Still think I don't have an affinity?" she teased. She was well aware that she was odd for having off-types in her group.
"Unless you're pretending to understand your Vulpix," Trent teased back. "Then you're the most brilliant actress I've ever seen."
"Ha! Hardly!" Aleron snorted. "Don't make me make Jolteon zap you." Jolteon lifted his head, although he looked too lazy.
Trent grinned.
"I have two pokemon who can withstand being zapped," he said. "Duchess is part dragon, and Lombre is part grass, both types are resistant to electric-types." He struck a dramatic pose. "And Wooper is part ground, completely immune." |
Aleron giggled. "Red's becoming immune," she said with a grin. "He's been zapped so many times he's becoming immune. It's kind of cool, actually."
"I'm hoping to train Wooper into a Quagsire," Trent said, settling back in to float again. "Quagsires aren't exactly fast, but there are some moves that take advantage of that. And things like Earthquake are really useful."
"That is very true." Aleron stretched briefly before she settled down again. "I've thought about evolving Vulpix a few times, but I like her how she is."
"I've heard Ninetails are hard to handle," Trent said. "Vain and finicky and such."
"So are Vulpixes," Aleron said with a snort. "Vain, finicky when she wants to be, a prancing little prima donna..." She grinned. "Ninetails are just bigger and more vain, so far as I can see."
