Negative. I mean, only slightly correct. We all use it to smell, but not just day to day things like dirty socks, our armpits, or new puppy smell. Our nose also picks up on our pheromones, the smell of individuals. Some scientists think that through pheromones, a human can smell how genetically compatible people are with each other.

The nose is a truly amazing thing.

Thanks, Wrenji. :oops: I have a hyper sensitive nose. I can smell a candle burning from half a block away. As such, I know about it. Also, I think it is amazing that so much we still do and think is based on our hunter-gatherer days.

When I was younger, I didn't understand these thoughts so I took a basic anthropology class. It makes more sense now, but I am no where NEAR as smart about these things as people who have doctorates in the field.

I can understand that I have very sensitive ears. Which of course is no fun for me living in a city with a moderate crime rate - sirens almost every other hour.

The Hunter-Gatherer aspect I must agree on. I've taken two anthropology classes (just entry level.)

It's really interesting. Have you ever wondered what the evolutionary advantages of having sensitive ears would have?

Rhombus is very much correct. I would've loved to have taken a class on such things but I never did so my knowledge on the subject comes from lots of reading and documentaries. It's incredibly interesting.
