I donated $20 to Solia one time, but that's all. When you reach a certain amount of posts there, f.e. 10k, you get extra gold. I bought a couple of items with that gold

Yeah it is. When you hit 15k I believe, you get double of what you posted (so 15k posts because 30k in gold). I have a little over 30k in posts there
