"She didn't fall out on the way back?" Seth teased with a grin, taking a seat and stretching his legs out in front of him.
|
Jason just rolled his eyes.
"Don't tease him," Dawn said. "Or else I won't make him patch you back up after he shoots you." She hunched down a little, trying to hide behind her brother when she heard the distinct sound of Chiron approaching. |
Seth snickered and looked over at Chiron. "Hey. What's up?"
"Where have you three been?" Chiron demanded, obviously not happy. "Just taking care of the little problem we all had," Seth replied, intentionally unhelpfully vague. |
"We were only gone a couple of days," Jason added. "And everything is back to normal."
"Except my car," Dawn muttered. |
"What?" Chiron frowned. "What are you talking about, Dawn?"
|
"My car," Dawn said, "is not there anymore. There's this gaudy gold... thing, sitting in my parking spot, with my license plates on it." She sighed a bit. "He took my car."
|
"You needed a new car." Chiron shrugged implacablly.
|
"You knew?" Dawn asked shrilly. "You let him take my car?"
|
"I did not know, and no one lets a god do anything. They do whatever the hell they want and maybe, maybe apologize later if people die." Chiron gave her a very stern look.
|
"Speaking of that," Jason started, but Dawn shoved him.
"No, you shut up," she muttered to him. |
Chiron's eyes narrowed. "What happened," he demanded.
|
"Well..." Dawn said. "There was technically one casualty, but all four of us still came back."
"She did what Orpheus couldn't," Jason supplied helpfully. Dawn just hit him. |
"Which one of you?" Chiron sounded resigned.
|
"Which one of us died, or which one of us went to get the other back?" Jason asked. Dawn just rolled her eyes.
"Nika was gone for a bit. I think she went back to her cabin for a while as soon as we got back here to camp," she said. |
"And you went alone?" Chiron raised his eyebrows.
"No, I went with her." Seth grinned. "So you two went to the Underworld to get Nika back and succeeded?" "Yeah, that's about right." |
"Okay, I had planned on going alone, but I couldn't convince Seth to stay behind," Dawn clarified. "But yeah, the rest is right."
|
Chiron looked at the three of them for a few long moments before he shook his head. "I'm glad you're all okay. But you're all idiots."
Seth snickered, not bothering to deny that. |
"But we're lucky idiots," Jason said. "That makes the difference."
Dawn just rolled her eyes. "I wish I could deny knowing you," she said to her brother. "Really, I do, sometimes." Jason just shrugged. |
Seth snickered as Chiron walked away to go berate someone else. "See, that wasn't so bad, was it?" he teased Dawn.
|
"It'll get worse," Dawn said. "There's no way it's just going to stop there. It's never that easy." Getting up, she went and scraped the last of her plate into the fire. "I think I'm going to head back towards the cabins. Try not to annoy my brother into shooting you."
|
Seth chuckled and looked over at Jason. "She was asking for it."
|
Jason shrugged. He didn't understand Dawn sometimes.
"I don't get why she's so worked up over that car," he said. "It was a pile of scrap. She let me borrow it once and I almost couldn't get it out of the parking lot." |
"Probably because it was her car." Seth shrugged. "I dunno. People can be very attached to things that are essentially crap."
|
"Who knows," Jason replied. "FYI, if you try anything with my sister, I'll shoot you. Just so we're clear on that."
|
"I figured you'd say something like that," Seth said calmly. "But, hey, you haven't shot me yet. Small favors and all."
