Seth snorted and flipped through the stations before settling on one. "You mind?" he glanced over at her.
"Not at all," Dawn replied. "Pick whatever you like. I don't complain about other people's taste in music. I just claimed the radio last time to annoy Jason."
Seth snickered. "Does he still sing that song that annoyed you a while back? Brown Eyed Girl or whatever it was?"
"Sparks Fly, and no, not for the moment," Dawn replied. She knew which song he was trying to refer to. "He may have actually taken me seriously when I threatened to hogtie him."
Seth snickered. "Well, the way those two are going, you might just have to wrap him like a present and shove him at her."
"I might not have to, actually," Dawn replied. "Jason's been doing alright without my help so far. It's kind of weird, actually."
Seth snorted. "What? That he's doing okay without help?"
"That he's doing okay getting to know Nika without help," Dawn corrected. "And she's letting him."
Seth snorted. "She just wants people to think she's a hard-ass hunter," he said dismissively. "She's more like a big cat."
"She's not as rough as she wants people to believe," Dawn agreed. "I think my brother is just what she needs, to be honest. He's stubborn enough not to get discouraged."
"And just smart enough to not be scared off. Or stupid enough. One or the other." Seth shrugged, grinning rather evilly.
"Not sure which," Dawn agreed. She lapsed into silence for a moment. "I think he's gotten a bit easier around you, too," she commented.
"Which is nice. I'm not very fond of being threatened at arrow-point." Seth looked over at her. "Which is nice and all, but I still like to have some time alone with you."
Dawn blushed a bit.
"Yeah, my family makes that kind of hard," she replied. |
Seth shrugged. "Oh well. Makes it nicer when we get it." He grinned over at her, settling back a bit for the ride.
Dawn still blushed a bit, but focused on driving for the time being. How anticlimactic would it be if they were killed in an accident after surviving the potential end of the world?
Seth waited until they got back to his place before he looked over at her again. "So, how long do you think I should wait?"
"I think we should try to figure things out as soon as possible," Dawn replied. "The longer we wait on things, the more time the monsters have to rampage and wreak havoc."
Seth nodded. "Alright. I'll just grab a few things, then, and then I'll get going." He hopped out of the car, glancing over to see if she was coming in before heading for his apartment.
Dawn turned off the engine and tentatively followed him. He hadn't expressly invited her, but he hadn't told her to stay put, either.
"My apartment. Not much, but it's comfortable enough for me." Seth shrugged as he let her in, heading for his bedroom. "Where are you going to go after I go sneak upstairs?"
"Probably to check on my mom," Dawn replied. "I want to make sure she's alright, and my stepdad and step-brother."
Seth nodded. "Alright. As long as you're somewhere out of the line of fire while I'm gone." He came back with a pair of winged shoes and some other supplies that he stuffed in a bag.
"Hopefully this won't take long." |
"Just be careful," Dawn replied. She couldn't promise to keep out of danger while she was gone, and couldn't even lie and say she would. "Look after yourself."
"I will." Seth hesitated before he moved over and kissed her. Hey, it never hurt, and they weren't actually in sunlight so he couldn't get smote for that. Hopefully.
