I personally wouldn't buy it, unless there was an item I REALLY wanted from inside it, then I'd maybe take a gamble.

Honestly, I'd just love to see new items come out more, except at the beginning of each month. xD
Via cash shop/coin item, anyway to get new items circulating into the economy would be awesome. >w<

Chance items .... do not want. o_o

They do not make me spend more, they make me less happy.

I really like the idea!! What's life without a little chance here and there!

Mageling 03-11-2011 06:57 AM

I don't like the idea, especially now that we have the marketplace. I remember when the chance items on Gaia came out, the inflation in the marketplace suddenly went out of control because the chance items were all that people were selling for a while, and the first prices set for them were outrageously high. The inflation never really came back down after that.

Secret Santa 03-11-2011 05:44 PM

@Mageling- I had that unspoken concern as well....However, Gaia and mene treat situations much much differently. Mene is not all about the gold.

I like this idea for shop items... buy a coin and have a random chance at a shop item, maybe getting a very expensive one, maybe getting a studio 54 one, but having that random chance while still getting commons from it (Since I know a lot of menewshans LOVE commons) and it wouldn't have to take any special new items or risk causing inflation or being valuable enough to be worth hacking.
Maybe be like 25c-50c a coin or something... depending idk what the odds are of getting something over 100g in a shop.

But that way it's more a win-win instead of those stupid items that nobody wants like some other site does...

All in all I think that this would be a good way to help produce income for menewsha, as it would be cheaper than a CI, allowing people who can't afford as much to still feel like they're contributing every month. (Granted with the 250 limit they'd maybe donate once every 5 months if they got a 50c coin every month) but it'd be more of an income than before right?

--

Not really sure what kind of coding that would take... but I like the random idea so long as it doesn't involve junk items (Which mene doesn't have so all good)

I am always split on ideas like this. Although its always fun to have more items available, I wonder if it works out to be worth the extra effort for the pixelists? And I also worry that if there are too many items being sold for cash that it will make the actual CI's harder to obtain for those who cannot buy them with cash and have to depend on sellers with extra sets that are willing to part with them. I guess if it was just a few items that were available for like 3 months, I would be ok with that. That way its not as much stress on the pixelists. Plus it gives time for the buyers to come up with extra cash and especially the people buying with only gold, we don't have to worry that there won't be enough CI's for sale due to special "rares". I won't be disappointed if we don't get a "cash shop" of sorts, but if we do, I know the Menewsha staff will do a good job. ; ) Now that we have the marketplace, I think getting CI's will be a lot easier for everyone. ^-^

I would be behind poet's idea. I think a random commons item would be awesome!

jellysundae 03-16-2011 04:53 PM

I wish there was a workable idea for this. Because when you look at it from a cheaper angle it would be fun.

I suppose I'm thinking of those machines where you put a coin in and turn the handle and a plastic egg-shaped thing drops out that has something in it, usually a plastic ring of a tiny book of fake tattoos xD
I don't like RIGs because they're a rip off. Because usually they're expensive and you're not very likely to get the item you actually want. But if it was something far cheaper it could be cute.

BUT...to flip that on it's head, if it was far cheaper then you'd get a surfit of the items in circulation and they'd end up completely worthless. I don't believe many people would want to spend cash to gain a random common, I know I wouldn't. So while that idea would prevent "waste" items building up, I'd be suprised if many people wanted to use it.

Most people, I'd say, will only use a chance option if they're going to get new stuff, for it to be already existing items it would have to be a gold fee, and I don't think many would want to risk that, either, because we have an awful lot of commons, and the chance of getting something that you didn't like/already had would be pretty high, and people wouldn't want to have to then go to the trouble of trying to sell it in the MP to recoup their loses.

crunky 03-17-2011 06:37 PM

A tiny book of fake tattoos, very cute! Maybe if just like the plastic egg shaped things, it could be like a specific type of item but just in different colors or styles. Example: This month the machine pops out necklaces but they are all of different animals as the pendants. (I am trying to think easy items to make but versatile to most people) So then if you don't like necklaces or animals than you wouldn't buy any or feel cheated. But than there would be some variety and people could trade for different animals. Of course people could get upset if they got the animal they didn't want but you can't please all, huh? xD

I hate Gaia's chance items! The make me want to rip my head off! They give away such crappy items even when we're paying for them. I mean, when I buy the thing for real money and then open it and find out that it's something that looks totally crappy when added to my avatar, it makes me so mad! :rawrmayor:

Vela 04-01-2011 05:19 AM

I like the idea. If you didn't like RIGs, you didn't need to buy them. If that's too hard for you, then you probably should work that out with someone. =X Well, that's the number one complaint I hear. People don't like them because they spend so much and don't get what they want... you aren't guaranteed to get what you want, and if you go in knowing this, how mad can you really get? Lol.
