One of my biggest annoyances is when a person knows they aren't going to be on for awhile, don't tell the others they're leaving, and therefore leave the other character essentially 'locked' into conversation with that character until that person returns. However, there are also those who are constantly hopping between characters just so their character can be all high and mighty and involved in ALL the action. I had created a fantasy academy thread, and one of the girls asked if she could introduce a new plot idea. It seemed like it wouldn't be too much of a change and wouldn't last too long, so I gave her the okay. Well, when I returned everything was COMPLETELY changed. No one understood the plot, and it was crazy hectic. Everyone was getting annoyed with the girl, because things weren't what we wanted, she was controlling everything, and she was making her character too powerful and controlling. On top of that her character was being a drama queen and a pain in the butt. Things like that should just be common knowledge. It's ridiculous that people even do things like that...Usually it's enough to post these things in the rules section of your thread. |
Things I can't stand when they happen in RPs:
1) I can't stand it when people twist your words around and no matter what you do or how nice you are about a situation the person makes your character out to be an idiot/mean/horrible/etc. Since they're not -technically- breaking the rules they get away with it and it really bothers me! :C It's like they have to make themselves out to be the best person on the particular thread or something, it's shallow... 2) When you're only allowed to play a certain amount of characters (ex: 1 per member or something) and then you have the people who play characters that "technically don't exist" such as inner demons or something that clearly is unfair but they use it as an excuse to break the rule. 3) When someone doesn't "agree" with your post (even though usually you didn't do anything against the rules) and they sit there and cause such a huge fuss that they turn everyone against you and make you completely re-post. However, the moment you try to do it to them for completely ignoring something you wrote and obviously breaking the rules, since everyone is against you already they get away with it with no consequence. 4) When people are in character and use it to their advantage to obviously bash you as an RPer, but because it's in RP context and they're your enemy they don't get in trouble for it, no matter how rude or malicious it may be. 5) When something violent happens and the person that was attacked has their character just kinda get up as if nothing ever happened. No matter how serious. Internal bleeding will be just shrugged off as if nothing. What's with that? This probably bothers me the most, I don't care HOW hardcore your character is, certain things you don't just up and walk away from. 6) When your "allies" REFUSE to help your character for no obvious reason what so ever. You wind up facing 'Evil Thing A' all by yourself and even though characters are standing right there, they just talk or debate on what to do and don't act at all. Then when you don't handle obviously-unfair fight all by yourself "correctly" people complain that you're a bad RPer. None of these things are usually breaking any rules, or at least they exploit loopholes, so people get away with them all the time and it really bothers me when it happens. I've up and quit very long RPs because of these type of things, it's clearly not fair. |
I have had people who write like this...
"..." he said as he stared. He made a face like -__- at her and if that's not bad enough I've gotten entire posts that only said: she waited for him to make the next move... or she fainted I hate it when people do that, I also hate it when I have to work with a Mary-sue who cries all the time and tries to make drama where there isn't supposed to be any. I despise working with teen girl characters, my persona is always a thirtyish year old male. No matter what happens he's not going to fall for an angsty helpless little girl. I will not do that kind of romance...EVER! I also hate when it's left all up to me to move the RP forward, my partner needs to take initiative sometimes and work ahead. I hate it when they spend all of their time crying and being depressed for no reason. And I hate it when it's obvious they are using RP to play out personal fantasies they have about themselves and a character. I find it disturbing... |
There was one RPer who one of my friends would drag to every RP who drove me nuts. You'd write a long paragraph that was open ended, so that there could be conversation or action or whatever, and they would write little one word things like
~agrees~ So we sat down and told her she really needed to post longer. In response she would do these nonsensical Alice in Wonderland/MoJo JoJo like word games that added nothing: it may be as you have said.but then, perhaps it is not? who knows? certainly not this one. |
