Most depressing song you've ever heard?
Post post. I'm not in a depressing mood but I just wanna know what you guys find depressing..
YouTube - Right away, Great Captain - I was a cage. |
There are so many:
1. Every Breath You Take by the Police -- it's like, loser, you're a stalker, get your own life. 2. The Saddest Song I Got by Annie Lennox -- trust me, she is not kidding. 3. Hurt by Johnny Cash -- this one gets me every time. 4. Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler -- the title says it all. |
There's a Radiohead song Peter Gabriel covered on that album of covers he did recently that's downright depressing. I mean, Radiohead AND Gabriel can both be downers, so you have the one cover the other and it's gonna get gloomy.
Both Berlin and Magic and Loss by Lou Reed are pretty gloomy, as was Radio Kaos by Roger Waters. Shannon Wright is usually pretty gloomy too. |
i would say that the most depressing songs i have ever heard were
--whiskey lullaby by braid paisley and --alyssa lies by jason michael carroll |
Most depressing songs I've heard:
Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler. Just like alexandrakitty has said, the title says it all. Two id Better Than One bye Boys Like Girls. The lyrics aren't that depressing, but the song is so slow it makes me depressed. Back to December by Taylor Swift. I really don't know why it seems so depressing to me... |
Anything related to heavy metal depresses me or at least manages to put me in a bad mood. The continuous screaming, the constant slamming on the guitars, it sounds like they're in agony.
|
Something in the way- Nirvana.
|

Saddest song that makes me want to cry and hit things...
Concrete Angle -- Martina McBride Basically the song is about a little girl who is being abused and beat by her father and by the end of the song/music video they have to bury her. ;_; |
Hero, by Mariah Carey. It's not that depressing but my very heroic, cool, handsome, friend died and that song was playing at work that night. I had to go home; too weepy.
Everybody hurts, R.E.M My name is Mika, from the very late 80's, Suzanne Vega???? Fuzzy memory but, again, it's about child abuse. It must be the most depressing subject. Pink did one like that too. Can't remember the title |
3 Doors Down - Down Poison. If you need an explanation after seeing the song title..
|
Elizabeth on the bathroom floor by Eels. It's downright depressing.
|
Razor, by the Foo Fighters. It's the lyrics, the tempo, everything.
The Queen and the Soldier, by Suzanne Vega. About a soldier who goes to the queen to tell her he's resigning from the army, and to ask her why she insists on the war. She ends up ordering him killed, and it's just :( |
Some of the most depressing songs that I know are already listed here but I'll say them anyway just to be clear.
- Forgiven by Within Temptation - Breathe No More by Evanescence - Hello by Evanescence - How to save a life by The Fray - My Immortal by Evanescence (try playing this just after you've watchd Cildren of Earth (Torchwood) and you'll be in tears. I should know    Here's a link to a music video to show you my point. YouTube - Torchwood Ianto My Immortal - Sad Spoiler Version There's my lyrics but it's sad enough without them. With them...     YouTube - Torchwood Ianto My Immortal - Sad Spoiler Version Ignore the woman! It's all about Jack and Ianto! - Send me a Song by Celtic Woman. (The Lyrics themselves aren't all that sad I don't supose but the way it's sang just makes me cry) - Danny Boy by Celtic Woman (it's a cover version of course but it always brings a tear to my eye) - Caledonia by Celtic Woman (another cover but I'm from the Highlands of Scotland so it really touches a nerve) - Loch Lomond There have been various artists that have made covers of this song and they still make me cry. - My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion (not a big fan of the Titanic but it still makes me cry) - Michiyuki by Kaori Hikita (It's so beautiful] I'll probably add more later but this is just off the top of my head |
Mad World by Gary Jules. I didn't find it depressing until I watched some video at school about people all over the world who are suffering and stuff, while it played. :C
|
100 Years by Five For Fighting (It played at the memorial at school of one of my favorite and most loved teachers and I haven't been able to listen to it dry eyed since)
|
Has anyone else noticed that quite a lot of the time it isn't actually the song itself that's depressing but what we actually begin to ascociate with it?
I mean, I now ascociate My Immortal by Evanescence with Captain Jack Harkness from Torchwood and every time I hear it I think of IT (Torchwood fans will know what I mean as I refuse to name it out of respect for Ianto) and I start crying. |
There's many ofc. the ones I think of now, that I cry to is a song called "Shoreline" by Broder Daniel, lots of memories in that song.
"Hope there's someone" by Antony and the Johnsons, a friend played it to me once, it was the first time I ever heard anything by AatJ, we both cried like babies. The song "Mmm mmm mmm mmm" by Crash Test dummies (try say that without sounding like an idiot), there's just something about that song that breaks my heart. |
Way Out Of Here - Porcupine Tree
Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd Isolation Years - Opeth In My Time of Need - Opeth  Killing Loneliness - HIM all I can think of right now |
"Illusion" By VNV Nation
"Concrete Angel" By Martina McBride "Creep" By Radiohead "Unfaithful" by Rhianna "Gravity" By Sara Bareilles to name a few, I have a whole list somewhere.... |
