Magic The Gathering

Does anyone here play Magic? I got into it about a year ago and recieved my first cards for Christmas. I currently play a Blue/White Flying deck, but I'm thinking of building a metalcraft deck as well.

What are your thoughts on Magic, and trading card games in general?

YAY!!! someone else I can talk Dork at!!! I had a blue/white flying deck, but it rotated out of standard. I have a White/equipment Kor deck for standard, and a Green enchantment Infect deck based on gigantiforming Carrion Call.
I'm starting to get into EDH format as well, my fiance, who's been teaching me for the past two years. Helped me make an Insect themed EDH deck.

Cool! I'm not quite sure what EDH format is though, since I'm a relative noob still :P My friends and I usually just play Multiplayer Free-for-all or Two Headed Giant.

Is EDH the one where you can only have one of each card instead of 4? It sounds cool, I'd like to try it out.

YUP! In EDH you have 100 card decks with a "general" they stay separate from the actual deck though. And you can only play the colors seen on the general's card. No other mana symbols are allowed in the deck. It's super fun, because you get to use WAY old cards but the games are SUPER long. I mean the games could be fast if you were playing a blue/black mill, but we don't make those kinds of decks because we'd rather have fun.

I probably shouldnt mention my top deck. But my slowest one(since almost all my decks are Tribal Decks) is my Dragons. I LOVE my Dragons. And that being said, I love pulling out 3 Legendaries(all the same) onto the field and everyone freaking because thats "illegal", except with the artifact "Mirror Gallery".

The only deck of mine which is even close to being legal in any Tournement or anything, is my Mirrodin Block deck. No card, not even land, is from another set other than that block.

And as for how long Ive been playing, well, I havent played in a few years, but Ive had my cards(most at least) for about 10 years now.

Wow, ten years? That's impressive. I've only been playing Magic for about 2 years, maybe slightly less than 2.

EDH sounds fun, but I don't have any decks for that yet. I'll have to get some more cards then :P

Ten years is pretty impressive, I bet you have a lot of cool stuff from older blocks.
Actually they're coming out with a whole new 'set'ish thing just for EDH... and they're changing it's name to Gathering Commanders... dumb my friend just posted this on Facebook.

I love to play magic the gathering. My favorite decks are the ones where i get to counter all your spells and them mill you to death :3

I'm upset because I haven't been able to play as much recently... I work full time, now, which means I don't get to play FNM anymore unfortunately.

So I am sadly lacking in Standard cards at the moment, and have very few of the new Mirrodin set. I make it to the occasional draft, though, which helps me get my card pool up to date. <3

My last deck I played in standard... hm... I believe it was mono-red burn. No, wait. It was white soldiers. <3

I admit I bought the chain lightning deck, JUST so I could get a full set of foil Bolt. xD

My love will always lie with Goblins though. I first started playing during the release of Lorwyn set, although my brother had been playing for years and years before that. My first deck was Lorwyn Goblins, and with some tweaking it became quite strong. I wish they didn't change the rules and stuff though. Mogg Fanatic got a lot worse after the rule change... and I liked Mana Burn as a game mechanic.

I hope you continue to play Magic! It's really fun, and it's a great exercise in strategic thinking.

I think when I first started, Fith edition was JUST about to come out. I remember going to the Mirrodin blocks release party, or whatever you want to call it, and got the "Helm of Kaldra" foil just for going. It was pretty sweet. I ended up making a Modular deck. At one point, it would become unbeatable. Even by decks that can deal damage directly to the player, all because 4x Loxodon Warhammer on a 20+/20+ creature that either flies, is indestructable, or unblockable.

All this talk makes me want to play again...I think I might take a friday night off sometime, and go to FNM somewhere...so long as I can use my decks I have, or if its payday, and I can get a new deck made that I know can easily work well. THE ELVES SHALL RISE AGAIN!!! :evil:


....Sorry, I had to say that. My Elves were VERY hard to beat...unless you can widdle down my health before I get my 4 Coat of Arms, and Timberwatch Elves out...and any number of others to help keep my Wellwishers alive...or even my Seedborn Muses. Though, nothing beats stomping someone to the ground with a forest that has 4 Alpha Status on it. >.>

I remember Elves were the deck I used to play against my brother way back when I was a little kid, before I really started playing in earnest.

Yeah, during high school I semi-retired my elves. Only pulling them out for games where we were betting who bought that days lunch. xD

I dont think my friends enjoyed it when I was up over 800 Life before even half my deck was done being played. And even though I have my decks in sleeves...I would change them every few days so that noone ever knew which deck I was going to play.:angel:

I had two triabal decks at one point... and I sleeved my goblins in Elf sleeves, and my elves in Goblin sleeves. Just because I could. <.<

Right now my Elves are in sleeves with a chick riding a red Dragon weilding a flaming spear on them, while my Dragon deck has a Dragon breathing fire at an Angel carrying a bow. xD

Cool sleeves! My decks are sleeved in solids. My Edh is in reds, Kor is in Gold and I think my infect is in purple... Everyone knows which deck I'm going to play because it's always the Kor. They are nasty nasty if I get the mana I need early in the game. Basilisk Collar on a Kitesail Apprentice? Kitesail on a Kor Dualist? and my infect deck isn't complete with the new mirrodin set, I need to change a few cards around before I'm totally happy with it.

I made a metalcraft deck yesterday out of mostly commons, and it actually worked quite well. I was surprised.

I don't have mine in sleeves yet but eventually I will probably get shiny sleeves for them :D

My boyfriend just got a bunch of booster packs for his birthday from his brother, he was quite pleased :)

Im thinking that since friday is pay-day, Im going to go to the card shop I normally go to, and get myself some more cards. I might even take in my rares to find out rough estimate of what they are worth...if they have a up-to-date price guide. I REALLY want to know how much my shinny Kamahl, Pit Fighter is worth. And the rough estimate of how much just the rare binder I have is worth.

You could always look it up online, there are some decent websites that have price guides.

Yeah, the guys at the card shop I go to said its around $8 for it too. Oh well, at least I know my Eslpeth is roughly worth $20. xD

My fiance works at a card and comic store and knows the worth for most cards so he can do fair trades. He tells me stories and rough values when I get him old packs. I pulled a sliver king and he was very happy about that one.

hahaha thanks. I liked the mustache so I tired to work with it. But I'm back to just being white and long now.
As for the comic shop. He loves it, he's learning warhammer and warmachine, at the same time teaching his manager how to play pokemon. They play games and talk comics all day. For him it is fantastic.
I opened two old packs the other day, pulled a Magma Sliver and a Final Punishment for rares.

If so..Epic~ I loved Magic the gathering, I was addicted. I used to play against everyone in school! all 4 people who own the packs! I had the dark deck, the manticore was my love child. Now, I don't play it so much because there's no one to play with. :c

Yeah, the card game :) You should find people to play against for old times sake, for example there's a hobby shop near my house that has Friday Night Magic games. I bet you'd have fun! :)
