She thrust the old brass key into the lock of the door, eager to escape this musty hell that she has found herself in. She groaned as she struggled to turn the key in the stiff lock. Using both arms she threw her weight into it, tears forming in her eyes. This could not be happening, surely this is a dream? How can one night of magic go so terribly wrong?

"Come on!" she screamed at the lock, struggling to compose herself.

She grabbed the key out of the lock and tossed it angrily onto the dusty floorboards. She started crying, tears of rage and fear slowly sliding down her pale cheeks, the sweat on her brow trickling into the cut above her left eyebrow, making the gash sting. She kicked the door in a rage, grunting as she did so.

She was unaware that the whole time she was struggling with the sticky lock, Mr Reynolds was watching her the entire time from the portrait above the fireplace.

What if 2012 really happened? For the past year the government have been building shuttles that can take selected people to a pod on the moon and then prepare to ship them out to a satellite that floats around the solar system. But obviously, there is not enough room for everyone. So the people the government have deemed as "undesirables" are left on earth. There are several safety zones around the planet, but with erratic weather, deserted towns, strange creatures running about from over-exposure to radiation and most modern technology being taken on the shuttles, it really is a fight for survival for those left behind.

You know that old bookshop on the corner of he high street? The one that never seems to have any customers, and the one that everyone seems to know about?
