Mass Effect concept work.

Just some speculation of what the Quarian's may or may not look like.
A little bit of linework, some digital stuff and a bit of 3D work. Just a bit of practice for my concept art course in University. :)
Edit: For some reason the sketches disspeared, I've rehosted them and they should be here to stay. Also have a bonus doodle or two.

I'm just absolutely astounded that no one's commented on this yet. I was waiting for someone more qualified than I (i.e. someone who's played Mass Effect before) to answer first, but I'll start.

You legitimately took my breath away! I saw this while you still had the linework up, and I'm sad to see it go - the concept art is sometimes even cooler than the 3D modeling, though in this case both were incredible. I'd really like to see a close-up of the texture, particularly of and around the eyes. It looks like a lot of work went into it!

Is this a class final? Are you majoring in this?

That's very pretty :D

I think its one of the more likely looking quarian speculations that I have ever seen. :)

Thank you so much! The class is starting officially in September, I thought I'd get some practace in before-hand. Hopefully after three years I'll be able to create something even better than this. It's the only university course I'm doing so I'll be able to focus all my time on it. I have done a small evening course in Computer Game evaluation and design though which helped with my developing sketches into fully blown ideas.

As for the texture I'll try to get a more detailed shot, but due to the program I use I might not be able to zoom in much more, at least with them looking particularly sharp - I'll see what I can do. If you're interested though the textures I sampled were from photographs of bricks, wood grain, tea stained paper, glass and human pores. :)

And thank you very much dreamer676, glad you like the idea. :)

I do :)

I like your other drawings as well. The ME aliens are reasonably difficult to draw, not so much Thane because he's so humanoid anyways, but I'd have no idea how to try Garrus. And I have always had trouble with those cat/cattle like legs that Quarians have. Sorry my head has completely gone to pot today and I can't remember Thane's race. >.> It's gonna really annoy me til I remember D:

He's a Drell. :)
And thanks, Turian and Quarian legs are tough to draw. If you keep the calves straight they look human, if you bend them too much they look like they'd snap under the weight of the character's torso. Referencing animal's hind legs seems to help me. :)

There we go, I didn't remember like the whole of yesterday, but thankfully it didn't annoy me as much as I thought it would.
Yeah, I tried to design a character from my own story with those deer like legs, It kind of failed so I ended up giving him humanoid legs. I may have to redesign him and reference his legs properly.

Oh, wow. You're really good!
. x.;
I thought you were one of the animators for Mass Effect.
I was thinking of buying that game for my 360, but now I will! :3
I enjoyed the 3D one, it looks like actual clay.

FuzzyLumpkin 04-19-2011 12:40 PM

@ Elluh Thank you very much, I'm flattered! As for buying Mass Effect I'd highly reccomend it - one of the best RPGs I've played in years. :)

Elluh 04-19-2011 11:44 PM

Which one would you recommend?

Ahh, have you worked with clay before?

FuzzyLumpkin 04-19-2011 11:47 PM

I'd say buy Mass Effect (the first game) and see how it goes. If you like go for Mass Effect 2 as well.
And yeah I've worked in clay in the past, my old art teacher used to encourage it - had to make some sort of sheep sculpture. D:

Elluh 04-19-2011 11:54 PM

Alright, will do. I saw the trailer for the second one, and it was pretty epic. xD

Oh? That sounds lovely, nothing better than sheep.

Nuruhanj 05-07-2011 11:47 AM

very great work!
and what program did you use for the 3D?

FuzzyLumpkin 05-09-2011 11:10 PM

Thanks Nuruhanj.
The program I used was Sculptris . It's much like ZBrush. And it's free, so it's good fun to play around with.

Nuruhanj 05-10-2011 01:34 PM

I guessed right then XD
Yeah I'd like to use it, but I'm not good on making 3D things ^^'''

Woooow! Great stuff here! I love the idea and the execution, too.
