Things That Make You Feel Blech

So, the other day my doctor told me to stop drinking caffeine (I'd been drinking quite a bit of it) and I was like...oh gawd...I'm going to go through the worst withdrawal symptoms if I stop drinking it, but I didn't. I actually started feeling really good, and really healthy.

When I went back and took a sip of a soda with caffeine in it today just because there was nothing else around, it made me feel instantly nasty, sick, and achy.

What foods, etc. make you feel like blech? Lol.

Enzeru 04-15-2011 12:19 AM

Red meat weighs me down and makes me feel terrible if I eat a lot.

Zombierella 04-15-2011 01:21 AM

I was a vegetarian for roughly two years, so I never really acquired the like for meat much. I can eat it sometimes, but I feel healthier and better eating a meal that excludes it. Like Enzeru said, definitely red meat. I try to steer clear of it at all costs (unless it's a GOOD steak... then it's worth it to me.)

Onions and celery are also BLEH, but I love the rest of the veggies.

Other than food, alcohol makes my stomach turn when I just look at it. =n=' I had a horrible hangover this past week that lasted two days. It was then that I decided I'm not a drinker, I'm definitely a smoker. :P

It's weird, but if I get more then six to six and a half hours of sleep I feel like I haven't slept at all and feel like crap for the rest of the day. I dunno what it is with a lot of sleep but I guess I'm so used to running on six or less hours of sleep that anything over that just makes me sluggish for the rest of the day. o.o

ElysiumFate 04-15-2011 02:40 AM

Indeed. Too much sleep can make you feel more tired than if you've gotten too little sleep. I am, unfortunately, one of those people that needs to get a lot of sleep or she doesn't feel right.

Anaxilea 04-15-2011 02:49 AM

When I first read this, I thought it said "Things that make you belch." xD Oops.

There's a cultural Asian market around here called Uwajimaya. My friend and I go CRAZY with ramune and foreign candy there and totally binge. That makes me feel a little icky.

My friend is heavily caffeine addicted. Everyone in her family drinks at least three pops a day. She keeps trying to cut herself off, and my house is full of really healthy, typically foreign cuisine and never any pop. She gets full-out migraines when she goes into caffeine withdrawal. o_o; you're lucky you got so easy!

ElysiumFate 04-15-2011 02:53 AM

Mmhmm. I was never really effected by caffeine...at least that I hadn't been aware of until my doctor told me it was making my body act in strange ways. I have a friend, though, that has heart palpitations due to all the caffeinated energy drinks she drinks a day, and she still won't stop.

Soda is bad. Lol.

And, haha! At the "belch" thing. I wanted to say "Things That Make You Feel Like Crap" but I figured that was an inappropriate title.

Frozen pizza! I'm not sure why, but after eating any frozen pizza (the brand doesn't matter), I'll start to feel quite sick. My stomach will feel weird (not quite "upset," just very... heavy and uncomfortable), and I'll feel a little nauseous and bloated. Home made pizzas don't make me sick, though. I prefer other things, though. The high amount of dough and low amount of veggies doesn't make me feel very good about my choices.

I can have one can of cola in a day, but if I have any more than that, I'll feel awful. My head gets really fuzzy and I can't think well, and I have a general... sense of discomfort. If I have a heavily caffeinated drink like a latte, I'll get an intense, pulsing headache focused in this tiny pinpoint on my eyebrow. But that's fine by me, I'm not too keen on the idea of being reliant on coffee to function in the world, and I shouldn't be drinking coke all day anyway. And I shouldn't really be eating frozen pizzas either. So these little things keep me in line, really!

Anything with meat or meat products in it, like gelatin. I also found out recently that I can't have dairy because I'm allergic to it. It's not lactose intolerance, I'm just flat out allergic to it which makes me sad because I love my cheese and chocolates. Pills do not help at all so I just can't eat dairy. Anything with eggs in it also makes me sick but I do eat eggs every now and then.

Miroir 04-15-2011 06:41 AM

As far as I know, I am not lactose intolerant, yet I tend to get... uncomfortable feelings in my guts whenever I drink espresso and steamed milk (whether it's a latte, cappuccino, mocha, or anything else gotten from an espresso machine). I used to be just fine, and could drink coffee and milk all day, but now I feel like an old man who can't digest anything more complex than a pinto bean...

It probably doesn't help that I work as a barista, and pretty much end up drinking espresso and whipped cream all day.

Corrosion 04-15-2011 07:05 AM

Well, for me it's pizza, generally take out, that ends in coughing and dry heaving. Also, milk tends to cause some feelings of...I don't even know how to describe it.

Cherish 04-15-2011 12:06 PM

I'm the same way with coffee now.

I used to practically live off the stuff, I couldn't function without a big, extra strong cup of coffee every morning. Came off it because we wanted to have a baby so I decided to detox before TTC, continued not having any while I was pregnant.
And now if I have even a tiny bit of very weak coffee, it makes me feel horribly nauseous for the rest of the day. :(

Oh, and fast food/greasy food.
It always tastes really good while I'm eating it, but straight after it makes me feel tired and sluggish, like I just want to curl up and sleep for the rest of the day. Really not worth it.

Arkkath 04-15-2011 12:56 PM

Seafood does that to me. But that's because I have a mild allergy to it.
I've never liked seafood in the first place anyway.

NeuzaKC 04-15-2011 05:05 PM

McDonalds. Just the stench of it when I go near the restaurant makes me nauseous. I don't even have to eat it, just smell it. Good grief... And zuchinni, or however you spell it... Can't eat the stuff, just can't.

Thesmilefell 04-15-2011 06:15 PM

Well, swallowing pills make me feel instantly nauseous. I used to take a tylenol every day because of headaches.
Now, if I take them with water, (I can't take them with juice, because we rarely have juice) I can taste it, and it is so sickening. :S

Yugiohlover73 04-15-2011 07:25 PM

I can't stand mixed vegetables or rutabagas. They make me barf. My mom always has to fix me something else when she fixes those. As for rutabagas, I don't think she'll ever want to go through that spectacle again...

----------

I can't believe you don't like McDonalds. I love it. Admittingly, I couldn't eat it all the time, but I can stand going to it ever once and a while.

Mika Rose 04-15-2011 08:07 PM

Pretty much any food can make me sick at times. I tend to get horrible stomachaches quite often. >.>

In particular, though, I seem to get them whenever I eat pizza. For a while a few years ago, I couldn't eat pasta without getting really severe stomach pains, either, but nowadays that seems to be okay.

I also haven't drank any soda of any sort for a few months. I hardly drank it before, but now whenever I try to, it makes me sick as well.

Oh, and chocolate, unless it's in very small amounts.

One time I actually did go to a doctor, but every test came back normal and they told me to take aspirin. >.>

NeuzaKC 04-15-2011 08:15 PM

I guess I started getting fed up with the horrible greasy smell of fat that goes on in there. I eat it, but only if every other restaurant is closed, or I don't have enough money, or if there are no other restaurants... And I only have the stomach for three nuggets. And then milk. TONS of milk. That smell of fat oil... That's what gets to me, you know? But to each his own on that. XD

hillary84 04-15-2011 08:36 PM

When online orders get messed up and I am not able to return what was wrongly sent. Now I'm going to be in a mess because I needed that study guide for an entrance exam. :(

I'm going to have to tell you that this just made my day. :XD

I also forgot to mention earlier that I can't tolerate mint chocolate chip ice cream at all. I got some as a little kid that made me EXTREMELY sick, and, now, probably due to the placebo effect, if I ever have that flavor of ice cream I feel disgusting.

Elluh 04-16-2011 12:57 AM

Any type of food really..I have a horrible mindset. It's not like a physiological thing though..I just associate the food I'm eating with something disgusting..and I stop eating it. I dunno why though. But food that really makes me gag are eggs. I just can't eat them, just the simple scent of it disgusts me. And pizza sauce...I hate that stuff..

eeonn 04-17-2011 05:45 AM

Movie theater popcorn.. Every time I eat it, it makes me extremely sick afterwards. It sure tastes good while I'm eating it, though. :P But I've noticed it's only popcorn from movie theaters.. Store-bought popcorn doesn't make me sick. I've never understood it..

ElysiumFate 04-17-2011 05:50 AM

I think movie theater popcorn just has all manner of nasty shiz in it, so I'm not surprised. Haha.

Like...frozen fish sticks make me sick, too. Or any frozen fish dinner, because of how low quality the food is. Restaurant fish? Fine. Don't do anything to me.
