"And we'll try really, really hard to keep it that way, I promise," Naomi said. She had to admit, she was a bit curious, though... How did someone get to the point that they could talk so casually about people trying to kill them? "But anyways, yeah. So we have no idea how we got here, or how to get back to where we want to be, and lately it seems to just be some sort of waiting game."
|
Harry nodded. "So you're not in control of it?" He pressed. "You don't know anyone who could do this, or who would want to do this?"
|
Naomi shook her head slowly, thinking about it for a moment. "We weren't the only ones dragged along the first couple of times," she pointed out. "We just happen to be the only ones here THIS time. I have no skills that translate into dimension-hopping, anyways. That's WAY outside of my talent set." She glanced at Osanna, to see if she had anything to add.
|
Osanna shrugged helplessly. She didn't know anything helpful, so she didn't even try to add anything. Hey, far as I know they were all just as confused as we were.
Harry looked rather interested when she started signing to Naomi. He looked between the two, not quite willing to ask. |
Naomi nodded.
"Yeah," she agreed. "I don't think they knew anything more than we already do." She couldn't help but grin as she glanced at the massive dog draped across her friend's lap. Is the dog saying anything interesting? she added. |
Telling me more about this world, Osanna signed back. We're comparing notes. Mouse chuffed, obviously amused by something.
Harry glanced at his dog before he looked at the two girls, raising an eyebrow. |
Naomi smothered a snort.
"I'm not surprised," she said. "Anything interesting?" She glanced at Harry. "Sorry, I was teasing Osa a little bit. She makes friends with dogs very easily." |
"I noticed," Harry said rather dryly. "I don't think I've ever seen him take to someone so quickly." He shook his head.
Osanna just grinned, rubbing Mouse's ears. |
"I'm not surprised at all," Naomi said. "Then again, I know Osanna. It's pretty typical. She made friends with every dog in a twelve mile radius of her house, I'm pretty sure."
|
Osanna just grinned innocently and petted Mouse. Harry snorted and shook his head.
"Well, I don't know if I can help you. I don't know much about the other worlds or realms." Harry shrugged. |
"We're kind of learning as we go," Naomi replied. "We've been to four, counting home." She was quiet for a few moments, and then she looked at him. "So... This is going to sound like a really dumb question, but humor me. What exactly are you? It's been nagging at me for a little while now, there's this weird kind of energy all over this place, kind of reminds me of a firecracker. I'm just curious."
|
Harry blinked. "I'm a wizard." His tone clearly asked, What? That wasn't obvious?
Osanna just blinked. Oooookie dokie then. |
Naomi blinked as well.
"Alright," she said after a moment. "After the fairies, I'll buy that." |
Harry cracked a little smile, looking at them. "I don't know that I can offer you much," he said with a shrug. "One of you could take the bed, and there's the couch."
He could always ask Thomas for help... but he didn't know if he wanted to subject the two to Thomas. |
Naomi glanced at Osanna. She herself would be perfectly happy curled up in a corner of the couch, and she and Osa had shared such sleeping spaces before. There wasn't any reason to take up the bed, too, unless Osanna wanted it.
|
Couch or floor is fine, Osanna signed, glancing at Harry. She felt oddly comfortable around him. Even if he was a total stranger.
|
"Good, you were thinking what I was thinking," Naomi replied, nodding. She looked at Harry as well. "We figure we can split up the couch and the floor easily enough," she said. "We don't want to take up too much space, and there's no reason for one of us to take the bed." She was pretty sure, given the size of the apartment, that there was only the one bed -- his. No sense in putting him out.
|
Harry shrugged. "I don't mind taking the couch." It wouldn't be the first time either. He was used to sleeping in hard places by now.
Osanna shook her head, rejecting the idea, even if Harry couldn't see her. |
"I have to agree with Osa," Naomi replied when she saw her friend shaking her head. "We'll be alright here, we don't mind." She and Osanna were tougher than he seemed to want to give them credit for, but he probably also didn't quite understand why, so she didn't comment on it.
|
Harry shrugged but let them decide. He was just trying to be a good, if somewhat surprised, host.
Osanna watched the two for a moment before she managed to get Mouse off her lap, instead going to plop herself next to Naomi. |
"We'll be fine here, really," Naomi reiterated. She didn't mind taking the floor for one night so Osa could have the couch, though. At least that way, she couldn't accidentally make her friend too cold or anything.
|
Harry nodded. "Alright." He glanced over at the door when Mouse got up. He wasn't expecting anyone else, was he?
Oh hell. Yes. Yes he was. Hell's bells, he'd forgotten about Thomas. |
Naomi glanced at the dog when he stood up, and then looked at Osanna.
Translation? she asked. Clearly, something was going on, even if it wasn't necessarily exciting. |
Osanna shrugged. Expecting someone, I think. She looked over at the door too, rather curious to see who it was. Harry grumbled but let Thomas let himself in.
|
Well, this is going to be awkward, then... Naomi replied. She glanced at her friend. You're supposed to speak dog, she added, teasing.
And Thomas did let himself in. It took a moment or two to get through the wards around the building, but it wasn't anything he hadn't done before. He stopped in the doorway when he saw the two young women on the couch, though, and raised an eyebrow at his brother. That was interesting. |
