Nope, I can see it too. He does have a couple drops of some type of demon blood, anyway. Osnna grinned briefly. This was getting more and more interesting.
Duo blinked and then sighed. "Everything is controlled here by the military," he said, looking at the two. "But not everyone likes that. The military has mobile suits, specific types that are mass-produced for their soldiers. Each type has a specialty. Mobile suits like these," here he tapped Deathscythe again, "are a little more all-purpose. These ones are for fighting the military. In short, they're really big weapons that people sit inside of and control. I'd demonstrate, but it's not a good idea. Not here." |
Naomi nodded in agreement with Osanna. She'd figured as much.
"Right, giant robot, little hangar, not such a good idea," she said. After a moment, she flared her youki a little as an experiment. She wanted to see if Duo would notice it. |
Duo blinked, a shiver skittering up his spine. Gah, that felt like someone had just stuck his finger in a light socket.
Osanna grinned. Yup, he was definitely a little bit demon. |
"Huh," Naomi said. "Well, that's interesting. I wasn't sure if that would work."
|
"What? What'd you do?" Duo looked at her, starting to look suspicious again.
She tested. Osanna grinned and showed him. "Tested what?" |
"To see if you had enough demon blood in you to feel it," Naomi replied. "And clearly, you do. There isn't a lot, granted, but it's there." She flared her youki again to demonstrate.
|
"Gah, stop that!" Duo shook himself. "And what do you mean, I have demon blood?!"
This place probably had demons long ago, Osanna wrote. Just like our world does. But something happened and I guess the ones here died out, leaving only their halfling children, and after enough generations the blood became diluted enough that you have people who are basically human, with just a little bit extra. |
"We could feel it when we got dropped here," Naomi said. "I knew I was feeling energy from somewhere, but it was faint and I had no idea where it was coming from. Clearly, it's coming from you."
|
Duo blinked, clearly just floored by that. Osanna grinned and started looking around again.
"Okay. So you think I'm part demon." Yup. I doubt you have enough blood in you to have any real effects, not like what we can do. For you, it would probably make you more durable, faster, quieter, things like that. "...That makes almost a scary amount of sense." |
"Like I was saying before, if you had a bit more of it in you, I'd have pinned you for a fox," Naomi said. She gestured to her friend. "Like Osa."
|
Duo looked at her, and Osanna grinned. "Really?"
Yup. I'm a quarter fox. It means I get to play with plants, at least until Naomi freezes them. |
"I don't mean to, most of the time," Naomi said defensively. "And I've gotten better about it."
|
Osanna just smirked, while Duo looked impressed.
"That sounds handy." He paused, thinking of all the possible practical uses for that, before he shook himself. He wasn't about to volunteer his gundam for her to test and see if she could freeze the metal or not. Maybe he'd "borrow" a military suit later. |
"It's a pain in the ass, half the time," Naomi said frankly. "I keep my house right around forty degrees all the time, I try to melt into a puddle of misery in the summer, and I make badass snow forts in the winter."
|
Duo laughed at that. "Hey, it has some practical applications, I'm sure. Besides building snow forts." He shook his head. "I haven't seen snow in a long time."
|
Naomi blinked.
"Really?" she asked. "Why not?" |
"I haven't been to Earth very often. And the colonies all have controlled climates." Duo shrugged. "No snow here. No rain really either."
|
"That's... weird," Naomi said. She shuddered slightly. That was just downright unnatural. "What is this, a giant hamster habitat?"
|
"Seems like it sometimes." Duo shook his head. "You can go look around if you want. You should be able to see Earth at this time of day."
|
Naomi nodded as she started to wander around. She stopped and stared when she caught sight of what was out the window.
"That's not natural," she squeaked when she saw the Earth through the window. "It is not natural for people to be out in space." |
"It is here." Duo shook his head and went back to work. "Feel free to wander around, just don't go out onto the streets. It's not always safe out there."
Osanna moved over to join Naomi, blinking when she saw Earth. And then she looked at the big rock that was far too close to them. Is that the moon? |
"I think it is," Naomi squeaked. "This is not natural in the slightest." She shook her head but didn't move away from the window. Unnatural as hell or not, it was still kind of pretty.
|
Osanna shivered and shook her head. This is too weird. Can I burn a page or two of that damn book now? Seriously?
|
"Not yet," Naomi replied. "Not until we learn how to dimension jump on our own." If they could. But until then, they needed the book.
|
Osanna frowned a little but didn't protest, just looking out the window again. The Earth was pretty from this far away, although it was still weird to think that they were in space.
