"That's because it has to be," Duo said with a snort. "Everything is much more durable than that poor thing you'd killed."
"Why does it have to be?" Naomi asked, pouncing on the subject. She'd wondered about the giant robot for a while, now.
Duo hesitated, wondering how much he should tell her. It wasn't like she knew anyone else, unless she was lying to him (and she'd have to be a fantastic liar to get away with lying to him), but he still felt kind of paranoid.
"I'm harder on my tech than you are," is what he settled on. |
Naomi raised an eyebrow.
"The giant robot in the main hangar says there's more to the story," she prodded. |
Duo shrugged. "Yeah. So?" He looked at her evenly.
Naomi just raised an eyebrow, but shrugged after a moment.
"I suppose I can't make you talk," she said. "I know a lost cause when I see one. But I doubt most of those dings and scars on the robot are from 'normal, every-day use.'" |
"I never said anything about normal use, did I?" Duo raised his eyebrows at her. Although really he now kind of wanted her to meet the other gundam pilots.
"Normal use was also never defined, no, but you get my point," Naomi pointed out. She grinned. "Although, I'm not surprised. Foxes tend to find a lot of trouble without trying."
Duo snorted. "And that is still kind of freaky to think about," he muttered with a grumble. "You may be used to that but I'm not."
"You'll get used to it pretty quick, I think," Naomi replied. "Don't worry about it."
"Uh huh." Duo eyed her doubtfully before he pulled out a chair, plopping himself down. "So, where's your friend?"
"Likely still in Amestris," Naomi said unhappily, sighing a bit. "She didn't want to come with us, so she wasn't close enough to get pulled along. And I hadn't taken her home yet. So she's probably still with the Elrics."
Duo snorted. "So she's likely going to be rather miffed about being left there," he guessed, still grinning. "You'll forgive me if I'm amused by that."
"She'll be rather miffed and have likely learned more alchemy," Naomi pointed out. "Ya know, just saying."
Duo snorted at that. "Yeah, probably. Luckily I don't have to deal with that." He grinned.
Naomi just rolled her eyes.
"At least she found something else she's good at," she said. "Now she can add all sorts of alchemical things to her nearly-sentient garden." |
"Sounds like it's better than a guard dog," Duo said, rolling his eyes. Although he had to admit it would be nice to see a real garden that wasn't carefully cultivated and climate-controlled.
"I have scars from being bitten by flesh-eating plants," Naomi said dryly. "Not many, but a few. Maybe if I ever drag you back home with us, she'll let you see it." She grinned a bit. "I'm not one for growing things. Any green things I try to grow end up dying."
Duo nodded. "I never had time to keep any plants alive," he said with a shrug. "I'm not always here, and the plants started dying."
"Yeah, they need things like attention," Naomi teased. She shrugged a bit. "According to Osa, at least. I wouldn't know, I still forget most times that anything more delicate than tundra-plants tend to die around me."
Duo snorted. "You're also an ice person. Ice and plants do not mix real well."
"Exactly," Naomi said. "There are some that won't die right away, but not a lot." She looked at him. "And when exactly did you turn the conversation back on me? I'm kind of impressed."
Duo snickered. "I'm just talented," he said with a grin. "You know, I think Hilde said something about going to get groceries later."
"Which is code for 'get out of my hangar,'" Naomi translated, grinning. She set down the tablet on one of the nearby tables. "I can take a hint. Besides, I wouldn't mind getting out to see what this floating hamster ball is like outside the garage."
"I figured you might like to take a look around." Duo grinned and went to go find Hilde so the two girls could go.
