Menewsha?

All_day_I've_been_wondering:
What_exactly_is_menewsha?
There_must_be_a_story_behind_it...

Saying_'menewsha'_makes_me_think_about_french_peop le_and_cats.

Mystic 04-25-2011 05:19 AM

It doesn't mean anything. It was just a random web address up for sale, if I remember correctly. O.o;

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. =P

Menewsha is an island, if you're talking about what it has come to be since then. XD

Omnomnomnom 04-25-2011 06:39 AM

I have no idea how the name became Menewsha, but whenever I hear someone say it, I think of " Me - new - start ", or something. I don't know, I'm just crazy. xD

Dillo 04-25-2011 12:58 PM

I have no clue either.xD You could probably pm someone!

BlackEggIceBird 04-25-2011 05:26 PM

It would be cool to know :)

NeuzaKC 04-25-2011 09:28 PM

Menewsha is an island, if that's what you mean. The name itself I'm not sure, but the story is that Menewsha is an island. (:

An island is simply not a good enough back story.
If there isn't a story behind the name, we should make one.

Codette 04-25-2011 11:21 PM

There actually is a bit of a story. The site actually has a bit of a comic
Comic

Very interesting. :) Now I know some of the back story. ^_^; Thanks for sharing this.

I SWEAR I remember reading somewhere ages ago that it's the phonetic spelling of "minutia":

Quote:

Usually, minutiae. precise details; small or trifling matters: the minutiae of his craft.
It doesn't make coherent sense still, but it's what I've gone by in terms of WTF the site name entails for years now. :ninja:

Bartuc 04-26-2011 08:11 PM

Min-EW-sha

The name of the island has been around since the first founders came here. None of the locals know the origin behind the name.

@Facade
Its Friday! Friday! Yesterday was Thursday!!! /wrists

jellysundae 04-27-2011 04:33 PM

Facade's right. It's just the phonetic spelling of minutia, and Mystic is right. Josh, the site's creator, bought the domain from some other guy for $1, back in 2006. :)

Electronica Babe 04-27-2011 05:12 PM

Someone probably just made it up. and somehow it magically grew from there. Or maybe a Gaia hater made it up. You never really know.

jellysundae 04-27-2011 08:59 PM

Well, if you'd read my post, that's directly above yours, then you would know ;)

Well, I learnt something today.

Acobjum 06-28-2011 09:50 PM

And knowledge is power! :P

dirune 06-30-2011 12:51 AM

yup... knowledge is power... but what to do with this new power? (sets it on mantle, and walks away) ice cream anyone?

Steve the Garden Hose 06-30-2011 08:18 PM

Everyone here is lying. It is actually derived from the Latin word Menooouu and the Aztec word Noushafucoladeeniator. The former means "Cow floating on water" while the latter means "A small party for an egret on it's 4th birthday". Combining the two words formed the new word, Menoushafucoladeeniator. Shortening this down (because it's too long and everyone is too lazy to keep writing it out), it becomes Menousha. I think you all can see where this is going.

Cherry Who? 06-30-2011 10:13 PM

No! How dare you reveal the secret! :gonk:

Steve the Garden Hose 07-01-2011 11:44 PM
