I have a journal I carry around school but that's more to vent my feelings or to write down a remind for something.

Mika Rose 05-05-2011 07:44 PM

I've kept a journal since sixth grade.

Well, obviously not the same journal. I have a whole collection of them by now.

I don't write in it every single day, just when anything of interest actually happens, or I have something I particularly want to express my opinion on.

It's actually a lot of fun to go back and read the old ones... I was always in such a bad mood back in middle school, it seems like. xD

I have a blog on Tumblr. It's my go-to when I'm super pissed off. :) I feel better once I'm done.

colorsbold 05-06-2011 02:23 AM

I feel like tumblr is for lightly shaded pretty things and interesting pop culture references. Also poetry. And talent.

I have neither poetry nor talent in me, so I feel a little bit like I'm maybe too stupid for tumblr?

But I do love the tumblr machine. All the pretties...

(as an addendum, Faerie, I love your av!)

The Diary of Anne Frank is one of my all-time favorite books, by the way. x3 I cried bitterly when I read the last passage and suddenly realized that the only part left was the epilogue. .___.

Ah, yeah. This was my freshmen year of college, too, and I had my first break up as well. It was right before this Spring semester started...thus I don't remember a lot of it because I was too depressed for a few months trying to deny I was on my own again. I'm okay now, but it took awhile. First break-ups suck ass. Lol.

It's one of my favorite books too. She was such an amazing writer/person for a child of her age. Makes me sad at how lazy and boring our generation is, I must admit.

I don't keep one. But I've tried countless times to keep a journal or a diary, and many times, blogs. However, it never works, I don't know what to write, I feel embarrassed writing, and sometimes I just don't have the time for it. Perhaps when it's the point of my life where I finally have success with what I want to do and actually have time to do things... and actually have things to write about... maybe I'll be able to keep a blog.

Update, because I think you guys will like this.

I watch little kids during the day as my employment. Yes, yes, I know, "slacker," but I love kids and the job is cushy. Beats the old coffee shop gig. Aaaanyhow...

During the day, we love to do art projects. Today, the girls and I made our own "journals." We cut up printer paper in different sizes, stapled all of the tiny papers together at the corner, and then decorated our covers and pages with intense water colors. Now little Madi is going to have her own "secret journal" to write in. Meanwhile, I think I'm more likely to write in this little thing than any store-bought journals I've had in the past few years. I've made it myself. It's thin, tiny, cute, extremely portable... and, because I made it myself, each page is brightly coloured. I'll look forward to each one, and feel less intimidated by the journal itself than I do with the consumer ones.

Plus, I've got this mini-shoebox. I'm thinking that I'll just write in mini-journals, and then everytime I finish one I will throw it in the shoebox. All a nice fit!

http://www.filedump.net/dumped/snaps...1304730815.png

I also tend to write on unlined paper a lot, so that's no problem for me. In high school I used to turn in all busy-work assignments on the back-side of used printer paper, with all of the lines neatly written and easy to read. So a blank-page journal works! You can do the same with lined, though.

Maybe if we made our own journals we'd be more encouraged to write in them every day? I dunno, but I'm happy.

ElysiumFate 05-07-2011 04:06 AM

Honestly, I think people who write in journals every day are a little bit obsessed...I mean...nobody really cares what happened every day of your life (unless, mayhap, if your'e Anne Frank) and nobody has such an interesting life (okay, that's a hyperbole) that they can write an amazing journal entry every day. I think you should write in a journal when you need to to keep yourself sane. Other than that, not really.

Those journals are really cute, though, colors. :)

jupiter 05-07-2011 04:20 AM

I'm not insecure enough to keep a diary. I don't reflect on every glance cast my way, I don't have a secret that I have to divulge every night, no secret lovers, nothing at all. Not every thought I have is a gem.

Ling 05-07-2011 04:36 AM

I've kept a hand written diary since I was 11 years old. I've also started many blogs, but never really was motivated enough to keep maintaining them.

colorsbold 05-08-2011 03:16 AM

@Elysium: As a tool to keep you sane and help you sort out your priorities, I think that journals are actually very useful. Usually, I have the urge to start writing again when things pile up too much. I don't think most people who write in journals write in them every day, though. My aunt does this thing which I think is really sweet-- she keeps a journal about her twin daughters' young childhood to give to them when they get older. Only the important things... it's wonderful.

@paper_crane: Also I have a secret lover. Yep. ;)

xRhii 05-09-2011 03:08 AM

I used to keep a diary but when I hit grade seven I just stopped writing in it. I just didn't have the motivation to sit and try and write my thoughts. Sometimes I take my diary out and ready through it, it's so weird how much I've changed. Now I have a blog, on blogger.com I usually write what's on my mind, things I want to remember or some poems and blurbs. I don't set aside time, just write whenever. If you wanted to read it it's xrhii.blogspot.com

Mhmm. I only ever really get an urge to write in my journal when my life is driving my insane one way or another. That's why I said several posts back that anybody who picked up my journal would think I was mental if they hadn't any clue who I was.

Shin~The ladle monster! 05-12-2011 11:30 PM

I try to keep a journal every once in a while, but I always end up forgetting about it. I don't really bother anymore, and my childhood diaries were always very inconsistent with weeks or months between entries sometime.

Strange, because I love writing, but I never really felt it worth writing about my life.

Phantom 05-13-2011 12:33 AM

So I just bought a new journal. x3 I'll have to post a picture of it. It's so cute~ :B

I love the little mini-journal, colors! What an interesting idea.

colorsbold 05-13-2011 01:48 AM

It has helped, too! I don't write much in it by way of daily happenings, but I wrote terrible poetry in it when I got home at 6am the other day. And sometimes, that's all you need.

Can't wait to see your new find! :)

Michy Lea 05-14-2011 12:15 AM

I have one, but I only seem to use it on days when I'm frustrated or upset and need to vent. It's a good way for me to write down my feelings about certain events, and my boyfriend can go back and read it and get my point-of-view.

Ignis 05-15-2011 01:24 AM

I do have a diary... it's very personal, and if any of my family or friends see it, they would probably kill me.
I write down things when I'm angry or sad or something REALLY important happens to me.<3
However, I can't write in it everyday, I get lazy or don't really have time to open that sucker up and flip to the latest page.
Writing in different colors is fun for me and somehow I choose the color that fits my mood~
Once, I finish writing whatever it is I'm writing-- [which usually takes a whole front side of a page, just for that one day unless A LOT of things have happened that day, then it takes multiple pages] I have to store my diary somewhere when it would be least expected or not found right away. I don't have a very good hiding spot for it yet..but I'm working on it.
u_u this would be so much easier if I had a safe or some secret hole in the ground. ~

FireOnix 05-16-2011 04:40 AM

I started writing in a diary when I was about 10 or 11. But it didn't last long, I got tired of writing about the everyday blah blahs and started writing fictional stories. =3 years later I'm still doing it.

LightDarkJes 05-21-2011 07:25 AM

I write in a plain no-frills journal whenever I feel like I need to expel some feelings or ideas onto paper because they're cluttering my mind. My entries are generally pretty angsty, sometimes they are bursting with excitement. Across the board they are made up of what had the most meaning to me at that moment.

SecretIenzo1 05-21-2011 09:21 AM

I keep a Diary on my computer and I use it for when I'm stressed.

FaePinkfyre 05-23-2011 12:34 AM

I have what Wiccans call a Mirror Book, its like a magical diary. I write down my day to day stuff (not every day mind you, sometimes a couple times a week, sometimes a couple times a month) and write about my tarot card spreads and other magical things in my life.
I also have a tumblr, which is kind of more like twitter on crack. I don't really blog too much on it but its a great way to waste some time and see some really great graphics

Phantom 05-26-2011 07:26 PM

Back when I kept a journal (like...in elementary school), it basically became a record of all the guys I liked. xD I kept tabs on anything "interesting" they said to me or did in class or whatever. I realized at some point how silly it was and deleted the whole thing, though I wish now that I'd kept it..

Ooo..Are you Wiccan, FaePinkfyre? I've never used tarot cards before, but I imagine it would be interesting to keep track of them and how things pan out afterwards.

Miss Eevee 05-27-2011 06:22 AM

i kept a diary for a year or so when i was 14 - 15, but much as i've wanted to since then, it's always seemed like more of a chore to me than something fun.
i've also tried keeping a blog, but once again, i end up thinking of it as a chore. ):

Xanthus 05-30-2011 09:05 AM

I've gotten various journals, and some I keep for dream record purposes, like a dream journal... in which case, I of course stopped doing quickly. Then another, when I got into poetry. I began writing whatever came to mind and into the form of a story or poem, and that book was almost done, then I began just scribbing/doodling/drawing all over the blank pages. >__<; Always have to draw somehere and I guess I lacked the paper that day. I'm an idiot, haha. Now I keep blogs which most of the time, I never use again. xD only when I'm feeling really down on myself or something. I suck, lol. I've had SO many jounals and blogs, but I can never find time to write in them and when I do, I procrastinate or just don't feel the need to. I can't maintain that sort of thing at all!
