What happens if...? (Pregnant?)

What happens if there is intercourse and suddenly, I get my period?

This is something that happened to us last week, Monday 25, to be exact. I'm horrible at keeping dates of my cycle, since it tends to be a little irregular. Still, I thought it was due THIS Monday, but voila, we got our surprise.

The thing is, I am wondering if there is a chance for me to be pregnant. I always thought that my period meant that the egg was not fertilized so my body is throwing out the preparations it had made for a possible baby.

I would discart my bleeding as menstrual, but it stopped that very day, and that's... unusual, to say the least. I didn't feel anything different, so I don't think that I got hurt during the act, either.

I really think that its unlikely for me to be pregnant, but I would like to know what you guys thought. I'm going to wait until next Monday, and if I don't get my period by then, I am going to buy a pregnancy test. Any suggestions on good ones? (And prices, if possible? This is my first preggo scare, so I want to make sure to buy quality stuff. After all, this IS important, right?)

I'm pretty stressed about it; my boyfriend says that this may also cause my period to be late and irregular. He's right, though I'm trying to stay calm about it all for that very reason. I'm not sure why I'm writing this, I guess I needed to get it out there, too.

I guess I should add that I'm getting abdomen pain and cramps, as if I was getting my period. This all just makes matters more confusing. :/

Sorry if i get a little personal, but when is the last time you have had a check up?? have you just recentally ended your period before your sexual intercourse?
also there are many reasons for abdominal pains. like if you dont eat enough or drink enough fluids.
there is a possibility your ovaries are being produced more then normal. i have a simular issue where i was haveing side pains and abdominal pains. so i went n got a check up but it was my ovaries. i was haveing an 11 day period n i would only have a week of a month where i was off my period. they were really heavy bleeding. i was put on medicine n because ovarian cancer runs in my cancer we've got to watch for that also.

i dont really have much help to offer..

Thanks for commenting, kookie :)

I got my period during our sexual intercourse, actually. Well, I think it was my period, but like I said, it only lasted for that day (and not the whole day, either)... So maybe it wasn't my period after all... On the other hand, my period was due around that time (a week afterwards), so I'm a little confused.

My menstrual cycle used to be very odd; I would get my period once every four months or twice on the same month... It got regulated after going to the doctor, though. I was getting it monthly, it lasts around 5-7 days, on average.

The cramps I'm feeling really feel like menstrual ones, except maybe they don't last as long as my usual ones. I'm really lost at the moment, and I'm not sure how to feel about it. We're definitely not on the best conditions to be parents, and I know it was irresponsable of us to actually have sex without being ready for the "in case ofs", but now, we're both in the now-what-stage...

You can still have a period if you are pregnant or it could just be that you're spotting.

If you are already on a contraceptive and you're not pregnant then it'd be a good idea to go talk to your doctor about it because there might be one that will suit you better.

This probably is going to WAY off... but you mentioned that the bleeding started WHILE you were having intercourse... is there a chance it might have been a bit rough and you ripped a bit? Sorry if this seems a bit awkward and I'm not accusing anyone of anything... but it's possible there could have been a slight rip inside of you and that's why you started bleeding and then stopped within a day...

Again, sorry if this is too far off.

Yeah that's kindof what I was thinking.

As for tests, I usually get an EPT brand one when I think I need to check (I check every few months just to be on the safe side, because you can have your period while pregnant). They can be between like $10 for a single test, and around $20 (up to like $23-24) for a set of a few.
I'd go with the few, in case you have another scare so you'll have another one already laying around you can take.

I recommend taking the test to be on the safe side. And definitely seeing a doctor for a check up. Before I had my kids, my period was irregular as well. Never had it twice in the same month but I would go 3 to 4 months without one. But after my youngest was born, it became a regular monthly deal.

She's right.

I agree, if you're worried you might be pregnant take a test.

But also, when you say "during" intercourse had you already had an orgasm? Because I get random cramps from time to time that are just like my menstrual cramps and my gyno tells me that sometimes the uterus can spasm and I should just taking some Aleve and see if it helps. You could try that to see if it stops.

I third this.

Sometimes when it gets a little rough, some women will rip a little and cause some bleeding. If you stopped bleeding so quickly then it might not have been that bad, but I also echo the thoughts of everyone else and get a check-up.

Over the counter tests are not 100% fool proof either and with a few pregancies there will be some spotting. If you're getting cramps you MAY not be pregant, I have horrible cramps up to a week [maybe week and a half] leading up to my period.

But, again, it's best to get a check-up by your doctor. Like, now, because the earlier you go the better chances of you knowing sooner rather then later.

Well, I got my period last Friday. I'm sticking with what you guys said, about getting your period during pregnancy being something to be on the look-out for. I'm not sure how long I have to wait for the tests to be accurate, though.

I posponed the date for buying the test because of that... :/

I thought I would add, physical activity and sex tends to start my period early or just get it going--like sometimes right after sex (or during!), if it's around that time of month, I'll notice it. Kind of like when you have a heavy flow and your sitting and nothing happens, but you stand up and it gets going again. Sometimes the physical activity--especially sex and all the poking around--provokes the period.

I think its what Ode said. I haven't noticed any changes, after my period everything went normal, I feel completely fine and nothing out of place. I think that the sex started the period, but with me freaking out to the extreme afterwards, it went away for a few days.
