Do you believe in ghosts?
I was in the scary movie thread when I started talking about ghosts and paranormal stuff. It made me wanna ask the people of Mene if you guys believe in ghost and the existence of paranormal things.
So, do you? I do, I've actually lived near Jerome, Arizona for over 13 years and have visited the town a lot. I stayed in the Haunted Hotel and have had experiences while eating at the asylum restaurant. Good food btw, haha. I watch almost every ghost show on tv too. Many people think its bogus but I just don't know anymore, once you've had an experience like I did it really changes your mindset about the subject. Yeah I know, I know, I might sound crazy but what ever, no one can prove its not true. No one I've met at least. |
I don't believe in people haunting places but I do believe in spiritual beings hanging round, I think they're usually demons. Not sure but it creeps me completely so I NEVER watch spooky things. You and I are opposites! :) Angels don't creep me cos they're strong and good. I've had visions of angels looking after my kids. A very good feeling.
|
I used to think it was just something people made up to scare themselves with, but after seeing one in my bathroom when I was six (who had no head, no arms, and possibly no legs (<-- couldn't check because he was sitting on the edge of my bathtub with his back facing me so I couldn't check to see if he had legs)), I now believe that ghosts do exist. Never seen anything that looks like a demon or angel before though... |
Oh, I believe. I've seen a little girl ghost in my kitchen before. It wasn't a good experience for a little child to have. Makes me not want to get up during the night when I'm thristy/hungry/etc.
And I've seen other things that the thought of still scares me today so I'm not telling those stories. |
I think there is so many people who have said they have seen a ghost that it has to be real!
|
Well, I don't really believe in ghosts/paranormal stuff, but whenever I'm alone someplace dark and kinda creepy (not that it happens often) my mind tends to start believing in all kinds of scary things that I normally wouldn't give a thought to during the day.. And I think that's what happens to a lot of people; their imagination runs wild.
I've had a friend who was really into those kinds of things, and she would always claim that there was ghost/spirits/whatever the hell it is everywhere, but I've never seen any such thing, and it's just not scientifically possible, so I just don't believe in spirits. (Though I'm not denying the fact that just cause I haven't seen them, it doesn't mean that they're not there. I've never seen Africa with my own eyes, but I'm pretty sure it's still there >_>) |
I believe in the paranormal, the house i live in is haunted, and living in the basement like i do. its magerly creepy i can hear people walking upstairs when no ones home, ive had something touch me many times and the growling...ooo the growling *shivers*
|
I believe in the paranormal. I've actually had several experiences with it myself, and I've done a little paranormal investigating at one point in the past.
Probably my most interesting experience, or the most definite anyway, was when I was about thirteen or fourteen and I was sleeping in the basement of my house, and I happened to wake up in the middle of the night to find a shadow person standing across the room from me, seeming to be looking in my direction. (The lack of visible eyes, or a face for that matter, makes it a bit difficult to tell with them, though. xD) When I looked at it, it walked across the room and disappeared into a shadowy area in the corner. The way it walked was very strange; I don't know quite how to describe it, but it wasn't at all the way a human would move. I had probably the worst sense of dread I've felt in my life throughout the entire encounter. Around the same time, much less drastic things would go on in my house as well. Once I came upstairs during a sleepover to wash my face and get ready to go to sleep, and the lights were on in the bathroom. I could see shadows moving under the door, but when I opened it, the room was totally empty. We would also occasionally hear something knocking on the walls. I would also get a really creepy feeling from certain parts of my house a lot of the time. Interestingly enough, I had a close friend who also had had a lot of paranormal things happen to her in the past that started telling me one day about this feeling she got from the very same rooms, despite the fact that I had never mentioned it to her before. Everything seems to have calmed down now, though, so I'm guessing it was most likely a poltergeist or something of the sort, especially considering my age and the fact that I was depressed and angry most of the time throughout middle school, which probably contributed a lot to that. From when I was in middle school until freshman year of high school or so, I also started to explore a lot of different religions and such and got somewhat involved in occultism and all of that for a while. I'd rather not go into a lot of detail on that, but I was involved for a time in what I now realize were very negative things, and as a result I started having a lot of bizarre experiences and even having what I suppose you would call visions once in a while. I would later do research on the things I saw and find information that fit perfectly with them to the extent that it was way too much to be mere coincidence. One of my friends and I even had pretty much the exact same vision at one point. I don't know what exactly it was that finally got through to me to get away from all of that, but I eventually became a Christian about a year ago, and all of that sort of thing stopped. I am still interested in the subject of the paranormal and ghosts and such; I just know to be a lot more careful with it now. Unfortunately, I think it is true that there are a lot of spirits out there that are demonic in origin and masquerade as something else, though. There's really a lot more too everything that I've experienced than that, but I don't want to end up typing out a novel on here, so I'll stop there for now. I don't know if my story is really all that interesting to other people, but if anyone wants to, I can go into more detail or elaborate on specific things if you'd like. ^_^ |
I've been interested in the paranormal and metaphysical since I was a child. I've got a few stories of my own and my mom has loads. I've actually been meaning to take notes on her stories for my own records. I'm too sleepy right now to remember all the good ones, so sharing will have to wait til later. I do think that a lot of what people think is spiritual/ghostly activity are actually "emotional imprints" (not sure if that's the right term). But spirits do abound, that's for certain. I will say, however, that Ouija boards freak me the f*ck out. I don't believe in Satan/the Devil (though there are malevolent spirits) so it has nothing to do with a fear of "dark magic" or anything like that, but they've always creeped me out. It's a form of voluntary possession and you never know who - or what - will possess you. |
I'm a skeptic. I do believe that there could be a possibility of ghosts because of the whole source of energy and what not.
I've gone ghost hunting several times with actual ghost hunting teams. But I haven't seen anything yet, I do a ton of "debunking". Finding the most literal cause of the sound, just because a can flops over doesn't mean a ghost walked by. I think those shows about ghost hunting are really stupid though. >___>; The movies eh, they were meant to be entertaining. |
I definitely believe in ghosts. I've actually had a few experiences, but nothing horrible. In fact, I've never actually seen what I have believed to be a complete ghost, but I constantly have this feeling that someone is watching me in my house. I also often feel things I can't explain that have been known to be signs of paranormal activity, like I'll randomly feel a cold breeze inside my house ( we dont open our windows, so it wasn't that), and I am always smelling random smells that make no sense. I often smelled cigar smoke and no one in my house smokes. I have also smelled sulfur and it is so weird. I'm thinking about getting a weegie board and seeing if I can contact someone.
|
I've always felt that if I deny the existence of ghosts, they'll end up being real and I'll end up pissing them off and they'll target me for hauntings. Lol.
|
I believe in ghosts, because i have also had my own experiences.
I live in kansas, and when i first moved into my newest house when i was seven, i was excited and loved all the space even if it's not the biggest house in my town. I learned though that the house was creeky, and i know people have heard this a lot, but a man along with his six year old son died. I dont know what caused it. I shared a room with my brother who was seven years younger than me, but one night when he slept in my parents room i woke up because i heard something running around the house. keep in mind we have no pets and my baby brother was fast asleep. I was scared so i got in the middle of my bed and curled up making sure the blankets completely covered me. the running noise stopped but only gave way to a swift bang on my door, but quickly started up again. i got even more scared when it sounded like it went under my bed. i thought about running to my parents but my bed started to shake, i could feel something pressing up on the middle of my bed where i was. I screamed and it stopped. It happend a few months later but never happened again afterwards. when my brother got older and my parents decided i needed my own space, my dad built me a room downstairs. the downstairs was large and completely open, all concrete and very cold. not exactly warm and cozy for me. as soon as i had all of my things up and i was getting used to my room, whenever i went to the door i would become terrified of opening the door because it felt like something was wrong on the other side, so i would go back and sit on my bed until my parents yelled for me and i could make sure they were on the stairs waiting. I tried to get over the fear one time, and when i opened the door i saw a small boy, looked about five or six, who was looking up at me. i looked down at him for a few seconds, my heart pounding in my ears. the boy started to look angry, his brown eyes going darker. i was so scared i felt like i was going to cry. he pointed back into my bedroom so i slowly stepped back in. he walked in, grabbed the door handle and closed my door, never looking away from me. a few years later my grandmother and grandfather died, just a few months from eachother. ever since then my mom and i have seen the number 111 everywhere. my mother says it's a sign from my grandma to my mother, since she was born January 1st at 1:11 a.m. it makes my mother think about my grandma and it makes me think about both of them. everytime we have electrical problems, i would smile and say it was my grandpa, who often messed with the electrical systems to scare me. after i would ask him to turn on the power, it always came on right after. I believe in ghosts, the paranormal, spirits or whatever you would like to call it, and i always will. =] |
I believe in ghost for sure. And even more I have the sixth sence which make even more. Of ocurse mom doesn't believe me but I see them anywhere. A few years ago my grandpa died and I was staying with my grandma cause she was having some troubles. I woke up and saw him standing over...it was said cause five weeks after we buried him my grandma died and also saw her spirit. So I know they are here cause they say if you have someone else's stuff their spirit remains with them and there are a few things of theirs we have. Of course I have also experts bad spirits too one I know who had hold me down to the bed. I couldn't move it took me everything to shake the spirit off..I guess being an witch works.

Hmm.... I don't think ghosts are real. I'm not religious... although I can't help feeling there are things out there that we don't know about. I bet, for most people who think they've seen ghosts, it was just their mind playing tricks on them - I mean, when one person tells a scary story, others are gonna be thinking they see ghosts everywhere, right?
|
Well I can't say there is or isn't such things as ghost I've never seen one
but When I used to live in Louisville, Ky. Theres a place called Waverly Hills Sanatorium which is on the top 10 list for being one of the most haunted places in America. And let me tell you this place is CREEPY! Just the building alone is scarry not to mention all the things that have happend inside when it was open. Now theres a small part that still has electric and every year they set up a haunted house and it's really scarry I've been several times and besides the actors I've never seen anything. Now even though theres No Trespassing signs everywear people sneek in all the time just to look around. And like everybody else I have to, more than once and I've never seen anything I would call a ghost. But there is definitely some kind of something there you can feel it in the air. Very Very Creepy and Scarry. |
yeah. I'm a believer. My family has been seeing ghosts and witnessing strange things since we moved into our house 25 years ago.
T.V changing channels, (one of those really retro tvs with no remote) lamps turning themselves on and off (we've changed the lamps and gotten multiple electricians come in to check out the wiring). Being able to watch a light switch flick itself on or off. We've seen black/grey orbs wizzing out of my bedroom from my closet. A man(black shadow in the shape of a well muscled man, about 6'8") standing by my door. White shadows, and things moving out the corner of the eye. Voices yelling our names when we're home alone. One time, when I was 13, I was home alone, and I was cooking chicken strips in the oven. I was in the living room watching a movie, and I heard someone say my name sharply beside me. I was confused but figured I should check on my food, and my lunch was black and about to start on fire.... I've had too many encounters with things that I couldn't explain otherwise. |
I don't recall ever seeing ghosts, but I'm terribly afraid of them. :gonk: So yes, I believe they're real.
Despite this, I'll sometimes read stories and look at pictures (with the sun shining brightly XD). But then I regret it when I'm sitting downstairs at night by myself or trying to go to bed... :gonk: |
Sorry, but I don't believe in them at all.
I think it's just people's minds tricking them, or people convincing themselves they've seen/experienced something. Mainly it's because I've never met anyone who's had a "paranormal experience" that doesn't either already believe in ghosts and such, or really wants to believe in them. Every single personal experience I've ever been told about has had a logical explanation, the most common one simply being tiredness. No offence intended to anyone here who believes in that kind of thing or thinks they have had an experience. |
Oh, I don't really believe in ghost or stuff like that. Although at times I might believe but mainly because of the kinds of movies I have watched..

I forgot to mention something when I created the thread. In 2005 My grandfather died of a heart attack at a family get together at a place my family calls the gorge. I wasn't there but we got a call at 6 a.m. on a wednesday morning. It was May 21st and I had just got up to go to school for the last week of 5th grade. I heard my sister burst into tears and scream "NO! It can't be possible! You're lying to me!" I swung open my door and asked what happened. I was 10 and my sister was 14. We left the next morning and headed to Utah. We stayed for a week for his funeral and everything. The funeral was on the second day and then we stayed the rest of the week. The first full day we were there we went out to dinner with our family and no one was at the house. We went home to my grandparents house and there was a half empty bottle of beer sitting on the table. The only beer my grandpa drank, and he was the only one who drank it. Everyone was shocked and terrified.
The next day was the ceremony and funeral. My cousins and I were playing basketball in the gym at the church while our parents talked and drank wine and had adult time. My cousin Shawntay and I went to the bathroom and she started screaming. I stopped what I was doing and ran around the corner to where she was standing by the mirrors. At that moment my heart skipped a beat and we were both standing there frozen. Next to Shawntay on the opposite side I was standing on there was a dark firgure wearing a cowboy hat, like my grandpa used to wear. We both burst through the doors and ran full-speed down the hallway back to where our cousins were. We told them and everybody kind of just sunk to the floor and burst into tears. We sat there talking about what we loved about him and what we missed the most. The next night everybody was at my cousin Jostlens house and the parents were all outside while the kids were inside playing games and what-not. My mom had a camera and was taking pictures. My entire family smokes so they were all smoking during that time. My mom runs into the house yelling "You all have to see this! Come here!" I was first to get to her and as I looked at the screen I saw the same figure from the bathroom made in the smoke of my aunts cigarette. I was terrified again. The day we headed home my moms phone dialed almost eveyrone we were with, even family members she didn't have the numbers of. She thought it was probably grandpa making sure we stayed in touch. He didn't want us to drift apart. This is actually the very main reason I ever decided to believe in all of this, it just helps to live near a ghost town XD |
I am also a firm believer in the paranormal and supernatural, and like the rest of you, I have my share of stories. The strongest in my mind are the things that happened a over a few years after my mother died, usually around the anniversary of her death, which unfortunately, was not a peaceful one.
The first year, when I was about 11, the day before we(my godfather and I) were going to visit her memorial I had chills even though it was summer and nearly eighty out. When we were driving home from dinner, we passed through the low fog that gathers around the bridges and such and both got a strong chill at the same time the radio buzzed out. The rest of the ride was fine, but when I was trying to sleep, I kept hearing a dull pounding sound from the other side of the wall, which was a linen closet. I didn't move so I guess I really can't say I know for sure that was something preternatural. The second time was when I was 14, and we had moved away from the old house in Kagoshima to a flat in Sendai. It was the night before the anniversary again, and I was home alone. I heard a muffled screaming from somewhere in the building, which was mostly unoccupied then, as the other tenants had not moved in yet. I walked down a few of the halls, trying to figure it out, when I got chills again, and I heard a whisper that I thought was my name. I ran back to the apartment and locked the door. The next night, I was practicing with my keyboard after dinner and got chills again. I told my godfather about it and he brushed it off, telling me to sleep. I was woken at two in the morning by dull thumps and the distant scream again. I didn't check it out that time either, opting to hide under my pillow again. The last time was a year later, when we were moving overseas to Russia. We were taking the late boat, so we had a cabin with bathroom and beds. I was dozing a bit, and woke up suddenly with the feeling of someone standing over me, I saw a shadow out of the corner of my eye, but when I rolled over to look, it was gone, and my godfather was sleeping on his bed. Since then, nothing has happened near the anniversary. Other than that, I have not had any big things happen. I have seen orbs of all colors over natural and man-made landscape, and vague figures now and then. Most often it's just chills or that feeling of a "presence" near you. |
I have always believed in ghosts. I have had experiences that I could not explain ever since I was little. We yet as people don't know or how to explain these weird events that happen to us but maybe one day in the future when technology has advanced even more maybe we can solve some of these occurrences that have happened too people.

I don't know if you guys are gonna think I'm crazy or not after reading the posts that have been written here but I thought I should say this even if you do think I'm crazy. I see ghosts and I can talk to them. It just depends on what kind they are. Like when your tv channel changes suddenly yet the remote is in your hand and you are completely sure you didn't touch the remote at all. That's the clearest sign that there are ghosts in your house even if you have never seen a ghost ever in your life. They aren't dangerous or anything they usually just like causing trouble around people's houses because they see you as someone to play with. They're usually just really lonely and want you to know they are there but since most people can't see or hear them they get your attention by slamming doors or changing channels on your tv or something like that. They aren't trying to scare you. They're just trying to get you to notice them. Well hope this makes you think of ghosts in a new way bye.
