Bands/Artists that You Wish were still Around

Everyone has at least one band or artist that they were either still living or still performing.

For myself, I'd have to say Slow Roosevelt and Mutha's Day Out.

What about you?

Only a few. All I have to do is hit 'shuffle' since most of my music is composed of bands I wish were still around.

Nujabes was a godly composer/DJ and I wish he was still alive. I miss him dearly. In addition to being a mastermind solo artist, he also composed most of the music for the anime 'Samurai Champloo'.
Horizon
Luv (Sic) 2
Luv (Sic) 3
Luv (Sic) 4
Counting Stars

Shifting away from hip-hop, I recently got into Pantera and was pissed to find out they split because of Dimebag's death.
Cowboys From Hell
Walk
Mouth for War
Drag the Waters

Rolling into the realm of thrash metal, Torture was one of my favorite bands for a very, very long time. I'm sort of growing out of that phase, but I still love giving them a listen every now and again.
Ignominious Slaughter
Blood Portraits
Terror Kingdom

Moving away from that, Jawbreaker was an awesome 90's slacker-rock band [otherwise known as punk rock, or high-school-rock] that ended up splitting due to musical differences, but they kicked some serious ass.
Sluttering (May 4th)
Do You Still Hate Me?
Chemistry

In my case it would have to be semisonic.

For some reason only one of their songs was ever a hit, but they had a lot of good ones. I find it a bloody travesty that they only had one big hit.

Vix Viral 06-21-2011 07:08 PM

I wish I were on a better internet connection so I could give all those links a listen.

I remember Samurai Champloo. Yet another series I quickly grew tired of and never bothered to finish.

As for Semisonic, I've heard a few of their songs but the only one I really liked was their only hit :P

Projectwolfie 06-21-2011 08:14 PM

Neutral Milk Hotel. (No, I'm being serious. If you know what I'm talking about, unfortunately it's most likely via the meme. They would've enjoyed the fame today though.)

Live, but not like their last album was at all.
Strapping Young Lad
A Tribe Called Quest
Kansas... but with the original six.
Blue Oyster Cult
Ornatos Violeta
Funkadelic
Smashing Pumpkins... and I mean the real SP, not the completely different band (save Corgan) that is now SP.
Scanner (Cheesy as a really cheesy thing, but really good speed/power metal too.)

Extol, mainly because every album they did was almost completely different. They weren't a very well known Christian Metal band, but they covered everything from Black to Thrash to... well, this odd "what if Radiohead was metal" thing almost. It was one of the few BM bands that I still remember fondly, and one of the extremely few Christian bands that were actually creative.

Im not sure if some of these ones are no longer around, but I definatly dont see anything new from them in recent years.

Barenaked Ladies
Great Big Sea
Chumbawamba
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Dave Matthews Band
Deep Purple
Fleetwood Mac
Goo Goo Dolls
Johnny Cash
Matchbox 20
Our Lady Peace
The Proclaimers
Poison
Steppenwolf
Stone Temple Pilots
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
Toto
The Who
The Guess Who

Vix Viral 06-22-2011 03:58 PM

I can say that Poison is definitely around. They're coming around here next month or the month after on tour with Motley Crue.

Mystic 06-22-2011 05:15 PM

Our Lady Peace just came out with a new album a few years ago. They just did a "Clumsy" tour last year, which was amazing. They're still around.

I would have to agree with The Who. The Doors is also another band that I would love to be able to see live. No line up changes but the original line up which obviously can't happen.

Vix Viral 06-22-2011 05:53 PM

Oh God, Jim Morrison <3 My boyfriend wouldn't be too happy about that, he knows I'd never come back

Codette 06-22-2011 08:43 PM

Bif Naked. Man, I haven't heard anything about her in years. Man did she kick ass.
But yeah, I totally agree with Pantera, the Doors, the Who. Bob Seger. Now that would be awesome to see...

Draciolus 06-23-2011 06:10 AM

I need to look back into music, rather than going to my friends house, and getting music from their music-orientated computer. A 3TB server computer, with about 1.5TB of music.

As is, my playlist is 350hours long....and thats not all the music on my computer. xD

I just thought of another group too(who Im listening to now xD): Matchbox 20. Loved their stuff, havent heard much lately.

Explodey 06-23-2011 09:08 AM

The Beatles. and maybe Nirvana.

Vix Viral 06-23-2011 05:02 PM

The guy from Matchbox 20 pretty much went solo, didn't he?

Mystic 06-23-2011 06:13 PM

Yeah, Rob Thomas has a bunch of solo stuff. It's not as good as the stuff he did with Match Box 20 in my opinion but it's not bad.

Vix Viral 06-23-2011 06:30 PM

That's what I thought but I couldn't remember since it had been a while since I last heard anything about him.

Elluh 06-24-2011 03:47 PM

The original Ramones, George Harrison, The Smiths, and Louis Armstrong.
I've only see Marky Ramone in concert at a bar downtown.
Zeppelin is still around but no where around Texas. ;C

Dr. Feelgood 06-25-2011 04:16 PM

I still like some of the classic rock stuff like

Pink Floyd,
Yes,
Bad Company,
Cinderella,
Black Crows,
Foreigner,
Journey,
Triumph,
Queen,
Styx,
Doobie Brothers,
Three Dog Night,
Traffic,
Just to name a few.

Mystic 06-25-2011 06:31 PM

Journey is still around. They just did a tour. Not too sure about who's in the line up though.

It seems to be a fad to being back old music. I saw that White Snake was doing a tour too.

Black Crows would be amazing to be able to see! I believe the only tour dates they had were across seas from me though.

Vix Viral 06-26-2011 02:54 AM

I'd love to see Whitesnake. Hopefully my living situation is worked out by then.

Jesus of Suburbia 06-26-2011 09:52 AM

I believe Whitesnake will be in my country the next month... Not 100% sure if it's the next month or the month after. They will have a gig at the complete other side of the country

The Unspoken Truth 06-26-2011 07:16 PM

I wasn't around as long as you guys were, but the Backstreet Boyz and NSYNC were part of my childhood. I'd love to see them make a comeback. Possibly The Beatles as well?

Hellraiser 06-28-2011 03:19 AM

I'd have to say maybe..
Psyclon Nine.
Motograter.
Older Korn.
Taproot.
Staind I think recently split up..
I dunno really.

Mystic 06-28-2011 04:16 AM

I think White Snake is going to be amazing. XD I can't wait!

I agree 100% on old Korn. New Korn is okay but I much prefer their older stuff.

Taproot is still around and has been touring for nearly a year straight. I just went to two shows last week and have been going to shows every few weeks for like 5 years. XD They just came out with an album, Plead the Fifth last year. Which, if you like their older, heavier stuff check it out for sure.

I agree with Backstreet boys! None of this New kids on the block mixed with them or whatever they're trying to do now, just old BSB.

Hufflebean 07-20-2011 02:18 PM

Hope of the States. I only really found out about their music the year after they stopped making it, which was a bit upsetting. At least for the majority of bands and artists no longer around, there is still the music they created before their departure, still available.

WinglessFairy 07-20-2011 04:41 PM

DC Talk!
I miss them! They were the first band I ever really like, but they broke up later due to them all wanting to pursue different styles ):
