P-U.

I woke up this morning earlier than I normally do and kind of sat in bed awake for a little while. My mom comes in to say goodbye and I get up to go put my contacts in. The second I walk into my hallway I'm hit with the utterly PUTRID smell.
I can't quite place it either, it smell like something is burning, but its sour. -shivers-
I've been breathing through my mouth for the past hour, and it's not fun.
I can't tell if its bad or not though, should I be worried that there might be a gas leak or something?

Then I thought, oh, hey...usually you can't smell dangerous gas T.T
Has this happened to you? How did you get rid of the smell?
I hear you can boil syrup on the stove but I'm home alone and don't want to start any kind of fire or add to the smell >.>

If it wasn't something on the stove or in the oven, you really need to find out what it is. If it's something like a gas leak, even if they say you can't really smell it, you never know. Could be dangerous. Your mom must have smelled it before she left, unless there was some time in between her coming in to say goodbye and you walking out into the hall.

I hope you find out what it is. :X

They add a smell to odorless gas so that it does have an odor. It smells a bit like rotten eggs (sulfur), so not what you're describing.

Sometimes dirty pans with cooking residue can take on a disgusting smell if left out overnight. Check to see if there are any super dirty dishes laying around in the kitchen? Have you tried to identify the source?

Sometimes there's funky odors in the kitchen. I go searching and most of the time it's just the garbage disposal.
I just rinse it out and drop a wax lemon ball thing in it to clean it up and get rid of the smell.
Sometimes it's the trash too; so we just take that out.

Could be anything, really. Maybe clothing that needs to be washed or the carpet needs a deep clean. I sometimes think that my cat had done his business elsewhere in the house besides his litter box, but I can never find anything.
Maybe ask your mom what's wrong.

Since it was a burnt smell, we came to the conclusion that it was our AC. Which died today.
The worst part is; its 110 outside T.T
Now, its 90 inside ):

Eh..It was hard when it was 100 here with no air. I had to install air because the heat would kill my mice.

For smells, I use air wick or something similar. I can't spray it in my bedroom because of my bird though. I'm afraid of anything that smells killing him or making him sick since birds are sensitive to smells.
